Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Lung Disease Caused by Mycobacterium chelonae: A Case Report

Mycobacterium chelonae lung disease is very rare. We report a case of lung disease caused by M. chelonae in a previously healthy woman. A 69-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of hemoptysis. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest revealed bronchiolitis associated with bronchiectasis in the lingular division of the left upper lobe. Nontuberculous mycobacteria were isolated three times from sputum specimens. All isolates were identified as M. chelonae by various molecular methods that characterized rpoB and hsp65 gene sequences. Although some new lesions including bronchiolitis in the superior segment of the left lower lobe developed on the chest CT scan 35 months after diagnosis, she has been followed up without antibiotic therapy because of her mild symptoms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of M. chelonae lung disease in Korea in which the etiologic organisms were confirmed using molecular techniques.
A proper orthogonal decomposition for parametric study of the mechanical behavior of nanowires

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is frequently used in exploring the mechanical behaviors of nanowires, which have strong dependency on parameters such as size, strain-rate, temperature, and so on. However, the MD simulations require heavy computation power. For efficient parametric study on the mechanical behaviors, the use of a snapshot-based proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is proposed. Per-atom virial stress and atom arrangement, which are chosen as the snapshots in this study, are expressed by the linear combinations of POD basis. As a next step, the moving least square method approximates the corresponding POD coefficients. The mechanical behaviors are then predicted by these POD expressions in the parametric ranges of interest. It is demonstrated from the parametric study that the proposed method not only obtains the snapshots but also predicts the abrupt drop-down of stress at the onset of inelastic deformation more efficiently than the original tedious repeated MD simulations.

본 연구는 2011년도 숲해설가 직무교육에 대한 만족과 교육적 요구를 조사하여 향후 활동지역 개인별 역량 특성에 맞는 직무교육 계획 수립을 위한 방향과 시사점을 도출 차기년도 교육에 반영하고자 하는 목적으로 실시하였다. 숲해설가 직무교육 프로그램 향상을 위한 직무교육 만족 및 요구 분석에서 참여자 일반사항으로 교육이수 숲해설가의 평균 연령과 성별은 40대 후반의 여성이었다. 활동지역은 인구분포보다는 휴양림 수목원의 시설에 따른 분포를 보였다. 교육생 구분으로는 처음으로 근무하는 숲해설가 보다는 1년 이상 근무한 숲해설가가 많았다. 직무만족도(5점 만점)에서 교육과정 일정에 대한 만족은 3.01 교육진행속도 2.86 교육내용 및 실습의 양 3.2 교육내용 구성 2.95 교육교재 3.0으로 나타나 전체적으로 보통으로 평가되었다. 교육과정의 핵심 요구 사항은 강사의 현장성 있는 교육(휴양림 관리자 운영사례 포함)과 더불어 숲해설가 고경력자로부터의 실전경험 사례에 대한 교육이었다. 교육운영 부분에서는 교육 본과정과는 별도로 숙박 숙식 교통에 불편함이 교육에 상당한 지장을 준 것으로 평가되었다. The purposes of the study were to analyze Forest Interpreters' satisfaction and needs of job competency education which increase interpreters' activity competence and support to plan next activity area next curriculum for individual competence characteritics. The study was done through the participants in 2011 Forest Interpreter's Job Competency Education whose normal age and gender are late 40's women. Activity area follow the distribution of Forest Arboretum facilities rather than population. As regards division of trainees new forest interpreters are less than the people who have one or more forest interpreter's experience. Satisfaction of job competency education(high scores 5) appeared as follows : training schedule(3.01) training speed(2.86) traning information and the amount of exercise(3.2) configuration of educational content(2.95) training materials(3.0) that was evaluated as a whole usually. The major needs for curriculum are field-applicable education (including forest operating case study) and hands-on experience education from senior forest interpreters. At the point of educational management it is pointed out that various discomfortable things except curriculum -accomodaion meals transportaion- are the serious obstacle to education.

More than 76% of occupational accidents occur in small and medium sized enterprises(SME) employing less than 50workers, due to the lack of safety and health systems, and carelessness of workers and owners. Timely Technical Guidance(TTG) project of Korea Occupational Safety & Heath Agency(KOSHA) for SME was initiated to analyze and inform accident causes just after accidents occur. Improvement direction of TTG project is suggested through situation and performance analysis on TTG services conducted in 2012. KOSHA provided TTS services on 15,571 SMEs(suffering at least one accident in 2012), through which the working day losses from recurrence resulted in 19.0%p, 14.5%p and 31.3%p decreases in manufacturing, services and construction businesses, respectively.

The concentrations of Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) and Formaldehyde(HCHO) for interior materials of new vehicles are estimated and recognized by using the simulation program known as IAQx. The concentrations of contaminants are estimated and evaluated by the ventilation rates of new domestic vehicles and the required ventilation rates for new vehicles are estimated through the given contaminant data. This study is conducted to compare the ventilation rates for the contaminants between the discontinuously ventilated new vehicles and the continuously ventilated new vehicles using the simulation program. The equation of ventilation rate of new vehicles is acquired to be able to lower initial concentrations below the standard level under different conditions for both business and personal commuting

<P>Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs), metal oxide nanoparticles were used in multiple applications including wood preservation, antimicrobial textiles, catalysts for carbon monoxide oxidation and heat transfer fluid in machines. We investigated the effects of CuONPs on the respiratory system in Balb/c mice. In addition, to investigate the effects of CuONPs on asthma development, we used a murine model of ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma. CuONPs markedly increased airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR), inflammatory cell counts, proinflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species (ROS). CuONPs induced airway inflammation and mucus secretion with increases in phosphorylation of the MAPKs (Erk, JNK and p38). In the OVA-induced asthma model, CuONPs aggravated the increased AHR, inflammatory cell count, proinflammatory cytokines, ROS and immunoglobulin E induced by OVA exposure. In addition, CuONPs markedly increased inflammatory cell infiltration into the lung and mucus secretions, and MAPK phosphorylation was elevated compared to OVA-induced asthmatic mice. Taken together, CuONPs exhibited toxicity on the respiratory system, which was associated with the MAPK phosphorylation. In addition, CuONPs exposure aggravated the development of asthma. We conclude that CuONPs exposure has a potential toxicity in humans with respiratory disease.</P>
