        고랭지 농업 용수확보를 위한 소규모 빗물 이용시설 적용방안

        최근 기후변화로 지난 2009년과 2012년에 강원도 태백시에서는 가뭄으로 인하여 엄청난 피해를 경험한 적이 있다. 또한 가뭄과 장마의 예측은 점점 더 어려워져 가는 실정이다. 특히 태백시의 87일간의 가뭄과 제한급수에 따른 피해액은 일상생활 134억원, 산업부문 338억원, 공공부문 47억원, 정신적ㆍ사회적 피해 1, 430억원 등 총 1, 949억원에 달하는 것으로 분석되었다. 태백시에 또 다른 큰 문제점은 가뭄으로 인한 고랭지 농업 피해로 인한 손실이다. 고랭지 배추를 생산하는 태백시는 우리나라 유일의 고산지역의 도시로서, 고랭지 농업이 특히 발달한 지역이다. 특히 태백 고랭지 배추는 태백시 농산품의 95.9%, 총 경지면적의 86.6%를 차지하고 있으므로, 배추의 생산성이 태백시 농산품 생산성을 대변한다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 태백시의 공공기관과 고랭지 농업 지역을 직접 방문하여 소규모 빗물 이용 시설에 대한 현황조사 및 시설의 상태를 점검하고 가뭄발생시 고랭지 농업지역의 피해를 최소화 할 수 있도록 소규모 빗물 이용 시설의 적용 방안 및 효과를 분석하였다. Recently, drought and rainy season are getting more serious. It is getting hard to forecast about drought because drought frequency is getting shorter than before. In 2009(winter) and 2012(summer), Taebaek-si was suffered from enormous damage due to the drought. Particularly, in 2009, cost of damage due to drought and restriction on water supply for 87days were estimated daily life sector 134 billion won, industry sector 338 billion won, the public sector 47 billion won, mental and social damage 1, 430 billion won. The other big issue of Taebaek is decrease in products of Highland Agricultural caused by the drought. Highland chinese cabbage which is the most important agricultural product in Taebaek-si account for 95.9% of all agricultural production of Taebaek-si and account for 86.6% of all gross area. For this reason, chinese cabbage of Taebaek-si is tropical agricultural product and is in charge of supply cabbage definitely. It is considered that if small scale rainwater harvesting system would be installed in highland agriculture area, it could reduce damage of drought at low cost and damage of cabbage would be decrease by system. For this study, We have researched regarding current status of Small Scale Rainwater Harvesting System of Highland Agriculture area in Taebaek-si and have compared with the amount of damage and installation cost in case of drought for the beneficial effects of Small Scale Rainwater Harvesting System, flexible supply of water and damage minimization of agricultural products.

      • 동북아 피더네트워크의 Win-win전략에 관한 연구

        최근 중국은 양산항을 개장하여 선사 유치를 위한 다양한 혜택을 제공하고, 일본은 "수퍼중추항만 육성계획“을 세워 항만의 효율성을 바탕으로 비용을 낮추려는 노력을 하고 있다. 또한 선박의 대형화에 의한 중심항만(Hub Port) 위주의 기항과 북중국의 대량 물량 발생지역에 대한 직기항 경향으로 동북아 항만간의 경쟁이 더욱더 치열해 지고 있으며 동북아 역내 피더네트워크 강화의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 유럽 피더네트워크 전략 사례를 바탕으로 동북아 피더시장 현황을 파악하고 동북아 피더네트워크 구조를 분석함으로써 동북아 역내 항만 및 선사간의 과당경쟁을 지양하고 서로 Win-Win할 수 있는 터미널의 전략적 활용, 선사간 제휴 확대, 항만간 협력 강화를 위한 구체적인 전략을 제시하였다. Recently, China opened Yangshan port and provides a variety of benefits for shipping companies. Japan plans to reduce logistics costs and improve efficiency through the established "super major ports" project. According to the "hub and spokes" system, the number of direct calls toward North-Chinese ports are increasing. This changing environment has negative effects on the amount of transshipment cargos in Korean ports. In order to make a hub port of a domestic port, it is necessary to develop northeast Asian feeder networks. Therefore, this paper analyzes the structure of northeast Asian feeder networks through the case study of European feeder networks strategy. Finally, we suggests the plans to reinforce feeder networks, which are strategic terminal operation, strategic alliances between shipping companies and port co-operation, for win-win strategy in the competitive northeast Asian market.

        Usefulness of Inflammatory Markers for the Prediction of Postherpetic Neuralgia in Patients with Acute Herpes Zoster

        Background: Increasing evidence suggests a pivotal role for neuronal inflammation in response to replicating varicella zoster virus in the development of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Objective: In this study, we investigated the value of serum levels of various inflammatory markers in acute herpes zoster (HZ) as predictors for the development of PHN. Methods: A total of 116 patients with acute HZ were enrolled in this study. We measured scores on the pain visual analogue scale (VAS) at baseline and at 1, 3, and 6 months after diagnosis of HZ. We defined PHN as pain greater than 1 on the VAS lasting for more than 6 months. Serum samples for laboratory assay, including complete blood count were obtained at the initial visit. Correlations between the levels of each inflammatory marker and the development of PHN were evaluated. Results: Levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), lymphocyte count, and albumin showed significant correlations with development of PHN in univariate analysis. Levels of ESR, CRP, and lymphocyte count also showed significant correlations in multivariate analysis. ESR level showed stronger correlations with development of PHN than levels of CRP and lymphocyte count. Conclusion: In this study, we confirmed that elevated ESR was an independent and significant predictor of PHN in patients with acute HZ. To validate these results, further well-designed, randomized clinical trials are needed. (Ann Dermatol 30(2) 158∼163, 2018)

      • Layer-specific serotonergic facilitation of IPSC in layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons of the visual cortex.

        <P>Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) inhibits the induction of long-term synaptic plasticity in layer 2/3 of the visual cortex at the end of its critical period in rats. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Since inhibitory influence is crucial in the induction of synaptic plasticity, the effect of 5-HT on inhibitory transmission was investigated in layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons of the primary visual cortex. The amplitude of inhibitory postsynaptic current (IPSC), but not excitatory postsynaptic current, evoked by stimulation of the underlying layer 4, was increased by 20% with a bath application of 5-HT. The amplitude of miniature IPSC was also increased by the application of 5-HT, while the paired-pulse ratio was not changed. The facilitating effect of 5-HT on IPSC was mediated by the activation of 5-HT(2) receptors. An increase in intracellular Ca(2+) via release from inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP(3))-sensitive stores, which was confirmed by confocal Ca(2+) imaging, and activation of Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII) were involved in the facilitation of IPSC by 5-HT. However, 5-HT failed to facilitate IPSC evoked by the stimulation of layer 1. These results suggest that activation of 5-HT(2) receptors releases intracellular Ca(2+) via IP(3)-sensitive stores, which facilitates GABA(A)ergic transmission via the activation of CaMKII in layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons of the visual cortex in a layer-specific manner. Thus facilitation of inhibitory transmission by 5-HT might be involved in regulating the information flow and the induction of long-term synaptic plasticity, in a pathway-specific manner.</P>

        Synthesis of Nanoporous Metal Oxide Films Using Anodic Oxidation and Their Gas Sensing Properties

        Gas sensors based on metal oxide semiconductors are used in numerous applications including monitoring indoor air quality and detecting harmful substances like volatile organic compounds. Nanostructures, for example, nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanodomes, and nanofibers have been widely utilized to improve gas sensing properties of metal oxide semiconductors, and this increases the effective surface area, resulting in participation of more target gas molecules in the surface reaction. In the recent times, 1-dimensional (1D) metal oxide nanostructures fabricated using anodic oxidation have attracted great attention due to their high surface-to-volume ratio with largearea uniformity, reproducibility, and capability of synthesis under ambient air and pressure, leading to cost-effectiveness. Here, we provide a brief overview of 1D metal oxide nanostructures fabricated by anodic oxidation and their gas sensing properties. In addition, recent progress on thin film-based anodic oxidation for application in gas sensors is introduced.

      • Recalcitrant axillary hidradenitis suppurativa treated with subdermal excision

        Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a relapsing, chronic, debiliating skin disease with a characteristic clinical presentation of tender subcutaneous nodules, painful deep dermal abscesses, and sinus tracts in the apocrine gland-bearing regions. Medical treatment of HS consists primarily of antibiotics, corticosteroids, retinoids, antiandrogen therapy, immunotherapy and immunosuppressive agents. However, currently available medical treatments are insufficient and their efficacy is only transient. Therefore in recalcitrant HS, subdermal excision of the involved follicles and inflammatory process is the only curative treatment. We report a case of axillary hidradenitis suppurativa in a 21-year-old man. He presented with multiple painful 8.0 X 8.0 cm sized deep seated nodules and abscesses with sinus tract formation and scarring on the right axilla for 3 years. Although abscess drainage and intralesional corticosteroid injection with oral antibiotics were performed every year, the lesions were relapsed and exacerbated. Histopathological findings showed intense perifollicular infiltrate and abscesses composed of neutrophils. Also, granulation tissue-like changes with a mixed acute and chronic inflammatory infiltrate were shown in the dermis. He was diagnosed with recalcitrant hidradenitis suppurativa on the right axilla so we treated with subdermal excision. He had no recurrence after subdermal excision until now.

      • Low-temperature performance of yttria-stabilized zirconia prepared by atomic layer deposition

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report on the performance of thin-film yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) synthesized by atomic layer deposition (ALD) at temperatures of 50–525 °C. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used for conductivity measurements. Relatively high conductivity values were observed in the low-temperature region when compared to reference values of YSZ synthesized by other methods. To investigate the conduction mechanism, various experimental variables were modified during the electrical measurements, including the ratio of yttria to zirconia in the ALD YSZ films and the atmospheric conditions. To relate the electrical properties to the structural characteristics, the crystallinity and microstructure were investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Finally, the suitability of an ALD YSZ membrane as the electrolyte of micro solid oxide fuel cells was evaluated. An open circuit voltage of almost 1 V and decent power output were successfully measured below 100 °C.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Conductivity of ALD YSZ is greater than reference YSZ by several orders below 100 °C. </LI> <LI> Y<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> concentration of ALD YSZ and humidity are important in electrolyte performance. </LI> <LI> SOFCs with ALD YSZ mark OCVs close to 1 V and decent power below 100 °C. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton verrucosum mimicking nummular dermatitis

        Nummular dermatitis presents as a well-demarcated coinshaped annular plaques form from coalescing papules and papulovesicles. In atypical manifestations of tinea corporis such as vesiculopustular lesion, the accurate diagnosis can be missed. Especially, cutaneous lesions caused by Trichophyton (T.) verrucosum which is known to be most common causative pathogen of dermatophytosis caused by cattle are usually characterized clinically by intense inflammation so they are often misdiagnosed as eczema. A 58-year-old female patient who is cattle keeper presents with localized, pruritic, 3.0 X 3.0 cm sized erythematous annular plaque with central clearing and vesicular border on the left upper arm for 1 month. The result of KOH examination on the left upper arm lesion was negative so we cultured and did biopsy for definitive diagnosis. Histopathology showed short septated hyphae in the stratum corneum. Culture from skin biopsy specimens on Sabouraud’s dextrose agar yielded slow growing, folded, heaped, glabrous, white colonies and lack pigment reverse side after 6 weeks. Microscopically, chains of chlamydoconidia were observed in slide culture. The nucleotide sequence of internal transcribed spacer for clinical isolate was identical to that of T. verrucosum strain CBS 562.50. The patient was treated with 100 mg of oral itraconazole daily for 1 month and the skin lesion was improved completely.

      • Giant basal cell carcinoma mimicking extramammary Paget’s disease

        Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer. Ultraviolet light is the most important risk factor in lesion development and progression. Additional risk factors include exposure to arsenic, coal tar derivatives, irradiation, scars, burn sites, chronic inflammation, ulcers, and immune deficiency. BCC arises usually on sun-exposed sites such as the head and neck and occurs uncommonly on non-sunexposed sites such as the axilla, buttock, groin, penis, scrotum, vulva. The Giant BCC is defined as a lesion with more than 5 cm at its largest diameter. Especially Giant BCC on the scrotum, penis, vulva, groin, perianal area where extramammary Paget’s disease occurs commonly mimics extramammary Paget’s disease. We report a case of giant BCC in a 69-year-old man. He presented with localized pricking 6.0x6.0 cm sized erythematous patch with erosion and hyperpigmentation on the perianal area for 4 years. Histopathological findings showed basaloid tumor cells budding within upper dermis and variable infiltrate of lymphocyte, plasma cells around tumor cells. Also, palisading and basaloid cell with variable atypia aggregated in the tumor cells and stroma separates from tumor lobules. He was diagnosed with Giant BCC mimicking extramammary Paget’s disease on the perianal area and had no recurrence after complete excision.

      • Design and fabrication of a microstrip patch antenna with a low radar cross section in the X-band

        <P>In this study, the authors developed a radar absorbing method to reduce the antenna radar cross section (RCS) without any loss of antenna performance. The new method was based upon an electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) absorber using conducting polymer (CP). First, a microstrip patch antenna was made by using a copper film and glass/epoxy composite materials, which are typically used for load-bearing structures, such as aircraft and other vehicles. Then, CP EBG patterns were also designed that had a 90% electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbing performance within the X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz). Finally, the CP EBG patterns were printed on the top surface of the microstrip patch antenna. The measured radar absorbing performance of the fabricated patch antenna showed that the frontal RCS of the antenna declined by nearly 95% at 10 GHz frequency while the CP EBG patterns had almost no effect on the antenna’s performance. </P>
