      • Induction of Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) Enzymatic Activity Contributes to Interferon-Gamma Induced Apoptosis and Death Receptor 5 Expression in Human Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

        Chung, Ting Wen,Tan, Kok-Tong,Chan, Hong-Lin,Lai, Ming-Derg,Yen, Meng-Chi,Li, Yi-Ron,Lin, Sheng Hao,Lin, Chi-Chen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.18

Interferon-gamma (IFN-${\gamma}$) has been used to treat various malignant tumors. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the direct anti-proliferative activity of IFN-${\gamma}$ are poorly understood. In the present study, we examined the in vitro antitumor activity of IFN-${\gamma}$ on two human non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cell lines, H322M and H226. Our findings indicated that IFN-${\gamma}$ treatment caused a time-dependent reduction in cell viability and induced apoptosis through a FADD-mediated caspase-8/tBid/mitochondria-dependent pathway in both cell lines. Notably, we also postulated that IFN-${\gamma}$ increased indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) expression and enzymatic activity in H322M and H226 cells. In addition, inhibition of IDO activity by the IDO inhibitor 1-MT or tryptophan significantly reduced IFN-${\gamma}$-induced apoptosis and death receptor 5 (DR5) expression, which suggests that IDO enzymatic activity plays an important role in the anti-NSCLC cancer effect of IFN-${\gamma}$. These results provide new mechanistic insights into interferon-${\gamma}$ antitumor activity and further support IFN-${\gamma}$ as a potential therapeutic adjuvant for the treatment of NCSLC.

Influence of Water Molecules on Polarization Behavior and Time–Frequency Dielectric Properties of Cellulose Insulation

        Wen Hao,Cheng Lin,Jiang Yi,Zhu Taiyun,Chen Zhong,Dai Xize,Gao Chenyu 대한전기학회 2021 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.16 No.3

Oil-immersed power transformer plays an important role in power transmission and transformation engineering. Moisture is one of the important factors to determine its insulation performance. Molecular simulation technique is used to study the mechanism of water molecules on the micro polarization behavior of cellulose insulation materials. The number of hydrogen bonds, solubility parameters, total dipole moment and polarizability are analyzed. These characteristics explain the action mechanism of water molecules on cellulose insulation. At the same time, the time domain and frequency dielectric response of cellulose insulation materials with diff erent moisture content are explored. The dielectric modulus spectrum is introduced to replace the traditional frequency dielectric spectroscopy to characterize the micro relaxation process of cellulose insulation under diff erent moisture content. Finally, the characteristic parameters are extracted from the polarization, depolarization current and dielectric modulus spectrum curves to evaluate the moisture content of cellulose insulation materials. The results show that the number of hydrogen bonds, binding energy density, solubility parameter, total dipole moment and polarizability increase with the increase of water content. It should be noted that dielectric modulus spectroscopy can eff ectively characterize the relaxation behavior of cellulose insulation materials. The moisture content of cellulose insulation can be quantitatively evaluated by DC conductivity, insulation resistance, imaginary part relaxation peak of dielectric modulus and integral value of real part and imaginary part of dielectric modulus.

Early Diagnosis and Management of Cerebral Venous Flow Obstruction Secondary to Transsinus Fracture after Traumatic Brain Injury

        Wen-hao Wang,Jun-ming Lin,Fei Luo,Lian-shui Hu,Jun Li,Wei Huang 대한신경과학회 2013 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.9 No.4

Background and Purpose Cerebral venous flow obstruction (CVFO) is a fatal complication of traumatic brain injury. To compare the outcomes of patients with CVFO secondary to traumatic-brain-injury-induced transsinus fracture who were diagnosed early versus those diagnosed late in the therapeutic course. Methods In total, 403 patients with transsinus fracture were reviewed retrospectively. The patients were divided into an early-diagnosis group (n=338) and a delayed-diagnosis group (n=65).The patients submitted to 2D time-of-flight magnetic resonance venography (2D-TOF MRV) and/or CT venography (CTV), depending upon the findings of intracranial pressure monitoring, in order to identify potentially complicated CVFO. These examinations took place within 3 days of the onset of malignant intracranial hypertension symptoms in the early-diagnosis group, and after an average of 7 days in the delayed-diagnosis group. Once diagnosed, patients received intravenous thrombolytic therapy with low-dose urokinase. Patients with massive transsinus epidural hematoma, depressed fracture, or cerebral hernia were treated surgically to relieve the compression and repair any damage to the venous sinuses. Results Cerebral venous flow obstruction was much more severe in the delayed-diagnosis group than in the early-diagnosis group (p<0.001), and hence patients in the former group were given a higher dose of urokinase (p<0.001) for thrombolytic therapy. They were also significantly more likely to need surgery (48.1% vs. 20.6%, p=0.003) and had a higher mortality rate (37.0%vs. 4.1%, p<0.001). However, patients in both groups experienced a similarly favorable prognosis, not only with regard to functional outcome but also with respect to neuroradiological improvement, as evaluated by 2D-TOF MRV/CTV at the final follow-up (p=0.218). Conclusions Delayed diagnosis can result in increased risk of surgery and death in the acute phase. Thrombolytic therapy with low-dose urokinase resulted in promising improvements in both functional and neuroradiological outcomes in all of the patients in this study, regardless of the time to diagnosis. • Nonlinear low-velocity impact response of graphene platelets reinforced metal foams doubly curved shells

        Hao-Xuan Ding,Yi-Wen Zhang,Yin-Ping Li,Gui-Lin She 국제구조공학회 2023 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.49 No.3

Due to the fact that the nonlinear low-velocity impact response of graphene platelets reinforced metal foams (GPLRMF) doubly curved shells have not been investigated in the existing works, this paper aims to solve this issue. Using Reddy's high-order shear deformation theory (HSDT), the nonlinear governing equations of GPLRMF doubly curved shells are obtained by Euler-Lagrange method, discretized by Galerkin principle, and solved by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method to obtain the impact force and central deflection. The nonlinear Hertz contact law is applied to determine the contact force. Finally, the impacts of graphene platelets (GPLs) distribution pattern, porosity distribution form, porosity coefficient, damping coefficient, impact parameters (radius and initial velocity), GPLs weight fraction, pre-stressing force and different shell types on the low-velocity impact curves are analyzed. It can be found that, among the four shell structures, the impact resistance of spherical shell is the best, while that of cylindrical shell is the worst.

Polysufonamide/Stainless Steel Woven Fabrics: Manufacturing Techniques, Flame Retardance and Electromagnetic Shielding Effectiveness

        Hao-Kai Peng,YanTing Wang,Ting-Ting Li,Ching-Wen Lou,XiaoXiao Wang,Jia-Horng Lin 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.4

In order to make conductive woven fabrics with electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) and flameretardance, polysufonamide (PSA)/stainless steel (SS) core yarn are used as the weft yarns and PSA yarns are used as thewarp yarns. The conductive woven fabrics are denoted as SS-60, SS-80, SS-100, SS-120, and SS-140 according to the twistcounts of the core yarn, and evaluated in terms of mechanical properties, flame retardance, surface resistivity. The test resultsshow that the best twist of the core yarn is 120 turns/10 cm. SS-60 has the maximum burnt length, while SS-140 has theminimum burnt length. Moreover, the surface resistivity of the PSA/SS woven fabrics is proportional to the twist counts, andthe surface resistivity along the warp direction is higher than that along the weft direction. Changing the fabric laminationangle can form a complete shielding network, and the EMSE is significantly increased. For SS-80, SS-100, and SS-120,when they are composed of 4-6 layers with lamination angles of 0 o/45 o/90 o/-45 o/0 o/45 o and 0 o/90 o/0 o/90 o/0 o/90 o, theEMSE is above 40 dB and the shielding effect is above 99.99 % against the incident waves at 2000-3000 MHz. Specifically,SS-120 has the maximum EMSE of 64 dB against incident waves at 2844 MHz.

BMB Reports : Dickkopf-1 is involved in BMP9-induced osteoblast differentiation of C3H10T1/2 mesenchymal stem cells

( Liangbo Lin ),( Quanhe Qiu ),( Nian Zhou ),( Wen Dong ),( Jieliang Shen ),( Wei Jiang ),( Ji Fang ),( Jie Hao ),( Zhenming Hu ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2016 BMB Reports Vol.49 No.3

Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9) is a potent inducer of osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. The Wnt antagonist Dickkopf-1 (Dkk1) is involved in skeletal development and bone remodeling. Here, we investigated the role of Dkk1 in BMP9-induced osteogenic differentiation of MSCs. We found that overexpression of BMP9 induced Dkk1 expression in a dose-dependent manner, which was reduced by the P38 inhibitor SB203580 but not the ERK inhibitor PD98059. Moreover, Dkk1 dramatically decreased not only BMP9-induced alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity but also the expression of osteocalcin (OCN) and osteopontin (OPN) and matrix mineralization of C3H10T1/2 cells. Furthermore, exogenous Dkk1 expression inhibited Wnt/β-catenin signaling induced by BMP9. Our findings indicate that Dkk1 negatively regulates BMP9-induced osteogenic differentiation through inhibition of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and it could be used to optimize the therapeutic use of BMP9 and for bone tissue engineering. • Wave propagation in spherical and cylindrical panels reinforced with carbon nanotubes

        Yi-Wen Zhang,Hao-Xuan Ding,Gui-Lin She 국제구조공학회 2023 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.46 No.1

Based on the third-order shear deformation theory, the wave propagations in doubly curved spherical- and cylindrical- panels reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are firstly investigated in present work. The coupled equations of wave propagation for the carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (CNTRC) doubly curved panels are established. Then, combined with the harmonic balance method, the eigenvalue technique is adopted to simulate the velocity-wave number curves of the CNTRC doubly curved panels. In the end, numerical results are showed to discuss the effects of the impact of key parameters including the volume fraction, different shell types (including spherical (R1=R2=R) and cylindrical (R1=R, R2=→∞)), wave number as well as modal number on the sensitivity of elastic waves propagating in CNTRC doubly curved shells.

      • Stratification Analysis and Case-control Study of Relationships between Interleukin-6 Gene Polymorphisms and Cervical Cancer Risk in a Chinese Population

Shi, Wen-Jing,Liu, Hao,Wu, Dan,Tang, Zhen-Hua,Shen, Yu-Chen,Guo, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.17

Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a central proinflammatory cytokine, maintains immune homeostasis and also plays important roles in cervical cancer. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate any associations of IL-6 gene polymorphisms at positions -174 and -572 with predisposition to cervical cancer in a Chinese population. The present hospital-based case-control study comprised 518 patients with cervical cancer and 518 healthy controls. Polymorphisms of the IL-6 gene were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Patients with cervical cancer had a significantly higher frequency of the IL-6 -174 CC genotype [odds ratio (OR) =1.52, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.06-2.19; p=0.02], IL-6 -572 CC genotype (OR =1.91, 95% CI = 1.16-3.13; p=0.01) and IL-6 -174 C allele (OR =1.21, 95% CI = 1.02-1.44; p=0.03) compared to healthy controls. When stratifying by the FIGO stage, patients with III-IV cervical cancer had a significantly higher frequency of IL-6 -174 CC genotype (OR =1.64, 95% CI =1.04-2.61; p=0.04). The CC genotypes of the IL-6 gene polymorphisms at positions -174 and -572 may confer a high risk of cervical cancer. Additional studies with detailed human papillomavirus (HPV) infection data are warranted to validate our findings.

      • Wave propagation in a FG circular plate via the physical neutral surface concept

        Gui-Lin She,Hao-Xuan Ding,Yi-Wen Zhang 국제구조공학회 2022 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.82 No.2

In this paper, the physical neutral surface concept is applied to study the wave propagation of functionally graded (FG) circular plate, the wave equation is derived by Hamiltonian variational principle and the first-order shear deformation plate model. Then, we convert the equations to dimensionless equations. The exact solution of wave propagation problem is obtained by Laplace integral transformation, the first order Hankel integral transformation and the zero order Hankel integral transformation. The results obtained by the current model are very close to those obtained in the existing literature, which indicates the correctness and reliability of this study. Moreover, the effects of the functionally graded index parameters and pore volume fraction on the wave propagation are also discussed in detail.
