      • Effect of transformational leadership on organizational performance : Focusing on the mediating effect of decision participation by members of IT industry in China

        Background/Objectives: This research emphasized the importance of Transformational leadership elements such as role model demonstration, vision motivation, individual consideration and charisma. Moreover, it focused on verifying the effects of these four elements on organizational performance through decision participation. In addition, the mediating role of decision participation was clearly identified as a key variable that can lead to organizational performance. Methods/Statistical analysis: To verify this, an empirical analysis was conducted on workers engaged in IT industries in China. Findings: Through empirical analysis, it was found that all four elements of Transformational leadership improve decision participation. Furthermore, decision participation was found to increase the level of organizational performance. Thus, it was found that decision participation played a partial mediating role in the relationship between the four elements of Transformational leadership and organizational performance. Applications: It has great implications for global companies that have entered China or have plans to enter the country in the future by sampling members of the IT industry in China.

      • Prognostic Significance of Desmoglein 2 and Desmoglein 3 in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Objective: Desmogleins (DSGs) are major members among the desmosomal cadherins critically involved in cell-cell adhesion and the maintenance of normal tissue architecture in epithelia. Reports exploring links of DSG family member expression with cancers are few and vary. The aim of this study was to investigate the ratio of DSG2 and DSG3 mRNA expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) tissue to normal tissue (T/N ratio) and evaluate correlations with clinical parameters. Methods: The mRNA expression of DSGs, as well as ${\gamma}$-catenin and desmoplakin, was detected by real-time quantitative RT-PCR in 85 cases of ESCC tissue specimens. Results: The expression level of DSG3 mRNA was significantly higher than that of DSG2 in ESCC specimens (p=0.000). DSG3 mRNA expression highly correlated with histological grade (p=0.009), whereas that of DSG2 did not significantly relate to any clinicopathologic parameter. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that only DSG3 expression had an impact on the survival curve, with negative DSG3 expression indicating worse survival (p=0.038). Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated DSG3 to be an independent prognostic factor for survival. Furthermore, correlation analysis demonstrated the mRNA level of DSG3 to highly correlate with those of ${\gamma}$-catenin and desmoplakin in ESCC samples (p=0.000), implying that the expression of desmosomal components might be regulated by the same upstream regulatory molecules. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that DSG3 may be involved in the progression of ESCC and serve as a prognostic marker, while expression of DSG2 cannot be used as a predictor of ESCC patient outcome.

        Hepatoprotective effect of <i>Amomum xanthoides</i> against dimethylnitrosamine-induced sub-chronic liver injury in a rat model

        <P><I>Context</I>: <I>Amomum xanthioides</I> Wall. ex Baker (Zingiberaceae) is a tropical medicinal plant that is commonly utilized in the treatment of digestive system disorders in Asia for a long time.</P><P><I>Objective</I>: This study aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective effect and related mechanisms of <I>A. xanthoides</I>.</P><P><I>Materials and methods</I>: Sub-chronic liver injury was induced by dimethylnitrosamine (DMN, 10 mg/kg, three times per week for 3 weeks, i.p.) in rats. Water extract of <I>A. xanthoides</I> (WAX, 50 and 100 mg/kg) was given once a day for 3 weeks.</P><P><I>Results and conclusion</I>: WAX (100 mg/kg) significantly attenuated the DMN-induced excessive release of alanine aminotransferase (123.6 IU/L), aspartate aminotransferase (227.9 IU/L), alkaline phosphatase (820.9 IU/L) and total bilirubin (0.50 g/dL) in serum (<I>p</I> < 0.01), and hydroxyproline (30.5 mg/g tissue) and malondialdehyde (MDA) (53.6 μM/g tissue) contents (<I>p</I> < 0.01) in liver tissue. Furthermore, WAX significantly ameliorated the depletion of total antioxidant capacity (2.54 μM/mg tissue), superoxide dismutase (0.30 U/mg tissue), glutathione (2.10 μM/mg tissue) and catalase (605.0 U/mg tissue) activities (<I>p</I> < 0.05 or <I>p</I> < 0.01) in liver tissue. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses indicated that WAX markedly reduced inflammation, necrosis, collagen accumulation and activation of hepatic satellite cells in the liver. Our findings demonstrated that <I>A. xanthoides</I> exerts favorable hepatoprotective effects via positive regulation of the antioxidative system.</P>

      • E-commerce Supply Chain Security and Influencing Factors of Logistics Industry Development based on VAR Model

        With the development of E-business, logistics industry has become an important part of China's economic development. E-commerce market brings a great opportunity to traditional logistics industry, as more than 70% express business is derived from the network shopping; however, E-commerce supply chain security problem also produced some adverse effects. In this paper, the authors analyze the key factor of logistics industry in E-commerce market, and find out three factors affecting logistics capability as logistics infrastructure optimization, industrial structure and marketization degree. By using VAR model, the empirical results show that there exist a long-term relationship between the basic logistics optimization degree, industrial structure and the degree of marketization, and marketization degree has positive related to the logistics optimization degree. At the same time, the market degree has obvious promotion effect on logistics optimization in the short term. This conclusion shows that in order to play the role of logistics industry to promote economic growth, government should optimize the industrial structure, and improve network infrastructure.

        Nucleocapsid Amino Acids 211 to 254, in Particular, Tetrad Glutamines, are Essential for the Interaction Between the Nucleocapsid and Membrane Proteins of SARS-Associated Coronavirus

        GST pull-down assays were used to characterize the SARS-CoV membrane (M) and nucleocapsid (N) interaction, and it was found that the amino acids 211-254 of N protein were essential for this interaction. When tetrad glutamines (Q) were replaced with glutamic acids (E) at positions of 240-243 of the N protein, the interaction was disrupted.

        Areas of endemism for scale insects in China

        The identification of areas of endemism (AOEs) has been a major challenge in biogeography. In the present study, parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) was used to define the AOEs of scale insect species in China. A total of 11 Chinese scale insect endemic areas, Tianshan mountain (A2-B1), South Tibet (H2-H3), Eastern Qinling Mountain (E12-E13), Dalou mountain (G11-H11), West Yunnan (I9, J9-J10, K9), Hainan Island-South west Guangdong (M13-L14), South Guangdong (K15-K16), South Fujian (J17-J18), Center Zhejiang (H18-H19), Taiwan Island (K19-L19) and association of Henan and Hubei (F15-G16), had been identified based on a distribution database of 506 endemic scale insect species. The Chinese areas of scale insects endemism showed a remarkable mountain effect. Hainan and Taiwan islands showed considerable endemism. Moreover, most of these AOEs were found to be endemic sites for several other plants and animals. These results will provide important information for further studies on scale insects diversity in China.

        Genome-wide characterization and expression analysis of MYB transcription factors in Lotus japonicas and Medicago truncatula

        MYB is one of the most abundant families of plant transcription factors (TFs), and is involved in plant growth and development regulation, abiotic stress tolerance, hormone signal transduction, and disease resistance. Previously, few genome-wide assays have been conducted in Lotus japonicas and Medicago truncatula. Here, with the recent release of the genome sequences, we performed genome-wide study of MYB TFs in both, including family characterization, evolution and expression analysis. In this study, we totally identified 104 and 166 MYB genes in L. japonicas and M. truncatula, respectively. All these MYB genes were categorized into 261 R2R3-MYBs, 7 R1R2R3- MYBs and 2 atypical MYB genes. This result showed that the majority (96.7%) of them belong to the R2R3-MYB subfamily in both species. Based on phylogenetic analysis, MYB transcription factors were divided into 14 subgroups. MYB genes in four typical branches indicated species-specific expansions in M. truncatula. The exon numbers and conserved motifs associated with MYB domains were also characterized. Furthermore, gene expression analysis performed in various organs showed diverged expression profiles of most MYB genes, suggesting their potential roles in regulating organ growth and development in L. japonicas and M. truncatula.

        BmNPV chitinase gene deletion enhances foreign gene expression in a BmN cell system

        Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) is extensively being studied as an expression vector for heterologous gene expression in silkworm-derived cells as well as in the host larvae or pupae. BmNPV chitinase is necessary for liquefaction of the virus-infected host insect. The influence of chitinase on the efficiency of foreign gene expression was studied to provide a scientific basis for improving the BmNPV expression system. The BmNPV chitinase gene (chiA) was deleted and the expression level of the polyhedrin promoter controlling the lacZ gene in BmN cells was determined. Sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)–olyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) showed that β-galactosidase accounted for approximately 6.9 and 7.7% of the total protein in BmN cells infected with the chiA deficient Bm lacZ+chiA−,at 3 and 4 days post infection, while the total protein was 3.2 and 4.2% in cells infected with Bm lacZ+. The relative β-galactosidase activities in Bm lacZ+chiA−[기호] -infected cells improved 2.33- and 1.56-fold compared to those of Bm lacZ+-infected cells at 3 and 4 days post infection. The results of the present study suggest that chitinase deletion could improve the lacZ expression level in the BmNPV-BmN cell expression system.

        A HOMOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF KRULL DOMAINS

        Let R be a commutative ring. In this paper, the w-projective Basis Lemma for w-projective modules is given. Then it is shown that for a domain, nonzero w-projective ideals and nonzero w-invertible ideals coincide. As an application, it is proved that R is a Krull domain if and only if every submodule of finitely generated projective modules is w-projective.
