Effects of Feeding Solid-state Fermented Rapeseed Meal on Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Intestinal Ecology and Intestinal Morphology of Broiler Chickens

        Chiang, G.,Lu, W.Q.,Piao, X.S.,Hu, J.K.,Gong, L.M.,Thacker, P.A. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2010 Animal Bioscience Vol.23 No.2

This trial was conducted to determine the effects of feeding a diet containing solid-state fermented rapeseed meal on performance, nutrient digestibility, intestinal ecology and intestinal morphology of broiler chickens. A mixed liquid culture, containing approximately 5 log cfu/ml Lactobacillus fermentum, Enterococcus faecium, Saccharomyces cerevisae and Bacillus subtilis was prepared in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. A basal substrate (BS) containing 75% rapeseed, 24% wheat bran and 1% brown sugar was mixed with the liquid culture in a ratio of 10:3. Over the 30-day fermentation, isothiocyanates were reduced from 119.6 to 14.7 mmol/kg. A total of 168, day-old male Arbor Acres broiler chicks were assigned to one of three dietary treatments including a corn-soybean meal based control diet as well as two experimental diets in which the control diet was supplemented with 10% of the BS containing unfermented rapeseed meal or 10% of the BS containing rapeseed meal subjected to solid state fermentation. There were 8 pens per treatment and 7 birds per pen. From days 19-21 and days 40-42, uncontaminated excreta were collected from each pen for digestibility determinations. In addition, digesta from the colon and ceca were collected to determine the number of lactobacilli, enterobacteria and total aerobes. The middle sections of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum were collected for intestinal morphology. Over the entire experimental period (d 1-42), the weight gain and feed conversion of birds fed fermented rapeseed meal were superior (p<0.05) to that of birds fed nonfermented rapeseed meal and did not differ from the soybean control. On day 42, birds fed fermented rapeseed meal had higher (p<0.05) total tract apparent digestibility coefficients for dry matter, energy, and calcium than birds fed non-fermented rapeseed meal. Colon and ceca digesta from broilers fed the fermented feed had higher (p<0.05) lactobacilli counts than birds fed the control and non-fermented rapeseed meal diets on day 21 and 42. Fermentation also improved (p<0.05) villus height and the villus height:crypt depth ratio in the ileum and jejunum on day 21 and 42. The results indicate that solid-state fermentation of rapeseed meal enhanced performance and improved the intestinal morphology of broilers and may allow greater quantities of rapeseed meal to be fed to broilers potentially reducing the cost of broiler production.

"Evading Suspicion and Shirking Responsibility": The Politics of Official Discord in Qing Taiwan, 1725-1726

Chiang, Michael H. 성균관대학교 동아시아학술원 2013 Sungkyun Journal of East Asian Studies Vol.13 No.1

the Yongzheng Emperor's attempts to inculcate proper political behavior and bureaucratic accountability. The essay begins with a brief discussion of the state of affairs in Fujian and Taiwan under officials appointed by the Kangxi Emperor. It then turns to the Yongzheng Emperor's efforts to revitalize what he perceived to be a moribund bureaucracy in the region through the pursuit of a case of corruption. The trial that resulted from a censor's accusation revealed a complex web of patronage, manipulation, malfeasance, and mutual recrimination among officials and provides us a glimpse into the workings of Qing field administration under pressure from a reformist emperor. The corruption case in Taiwan was important to the emperor not on its own merits, but as an object lesson in proper political behavior and bureaucratic accountability.

      • The Utilization of Social Networking Service for Mobile Application Design to Promote Positive Communicating Behavior

Chiang Chenwei,Anak Agung Gede Dharma,Kiyoshi Tomimatsu 한국멀티미디어학회 2011 한국멀티미디어학회 국제학술대회 Vol.2011 No.-

In this paper, we propose a new interaction method system which utilizes mobile application and social media. At present, a new digital service, which is called Social Networking Service (SNS), is emerging and gradually become worldwide phenomenon. SNS has been proven to affects habitual pattern of internet users, as well as influenced their daily lives. Based on those facts, we propose a framework to utilize SNS possibilities in the form of a mobile application. In order to describe the framework, we describe two case studies that explain possible alternatives for utilizing social networking service. The first case consists of a mobile application that integrates SNS messages to promote positive habits. The other one is a new communication tool that combines augmented reality (AR) technology, SNS, and mobile device. Furthermore, through those cases we discovered a new way to communicate and interact through SNS. Our findings suggest that SNS has profound possibilities to be used as an innovative communication tool. In particular, by combining latest technologies and analyzing inherent mental models we can conclude that our study has explored an alternative way to unleash one of the SNS’ potentials.

A simple model for explaining muon-related anomalies and dark matter

Chiang, Cheng-Wei,Okada, Hiroshi World Scientific Publishing 2019 International Journal of Modern Physics A Vol.34 No.20

<P>We propose a model to explain several muon-related experimental anomalies and the abundance of dark matter. We introduce a vector-like exotic lepton that form an iso-doublet and three right-handed Majorana fermions as an iso-singlet. A real/complex scalar field is added as a dark matter candidate. We impose a global <TEX>$ U(1)_{\mu }$</TEX> symmetry under which fields associated with the SM muon are charged. To stabilize the dark matter, we impose a <TEX>$ Z_{2}$</TEX> (or <TEX>$ Z_{3}$</TEX>) symmetry under which the exotic lepton doublet and the real (or complex) scalar field are charged. We find that the model can simultaneously explain the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment and the dark matter relic density in no conflict with any lepton flavor-violating/conserving observables, with some details depending upon whether the scalar field is real or complex. Besides, we extend the framework to the quark sector in a way similar to the lepton sector, and find that the recent anomalies associated with the <TEX>$ b \rightarrow s\mu ^{+}\mu ^{-}$</TEX> transition can also be accommodated while satisfying constraints such as the <TEX>$ B_{s(d)} \rightarrow \mu ^{+}\mu ^{-}$</TEX> decays and neutral meson mixings.</P>

On the theory of curved anisotropic plate

        Chiang, Yih-Cherng Techno-Press 2006 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.22 No.6

A general theory which describes the elastic response of a curved anisotropic plate subjected to stretching and bending will be developed by considering the nonlinear effect that reflecting the non-flat geometry of the structure. By applying a newly derived $6{\times}6$ matrix constitutive relation between force resultants, moment resultants, mid-plane strains and deformed curvatures, the governing differential equations for a curved anisotropic plate is developed in the usual manner, namely, by consideration of the constitutive relation and equilibrium equations. Solutions are obtained for simply-supported boundary conditions and compared to corresponding solutions that neglecting the nonlinear effect in the analysis. The comparisons indicate that the nonlinear terms in the equations that caused by the curvature of the structure is crucial for the curved plate analysis. Under certain curved plate geometries the unreasonable results will be induced by neglecting the nonlinear effect in the analysis.

Allogeneic Serum Eye Drops for the Treatment of Severe Dry Eye in Patients With Chronic Graft-Versus-Host Disease

        Chiang, Chun-Chi,Lin, Jane-Ming,Chen, Wen-Lu,Tsai, Yi-Yu Masson Pub. USA 2007 Cornea Vol.26 No.7

PURPOSE:: To describe the use of allogeneic serum eye drops to treat 2 patients with chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)-induced severe ocular surface disease. METHODS:: Small case series. RESULTS:: Conventional therapy failed to control the ocular symptoms of 2 patients with GVHD who presented with severe dry eye syndrome. Because autologous serum was unavailable in these cases, we used allogeneic serum eye drops as an alternate option for treating their ocular surface disease. Both donors had serologic tests performed before donation. Use of the allogeneic serum eye drops had a beneficial clinical effect, with marked attenuation of the patients’ symptoms. This therapy proved to be safe during 10 months of treatment. CONCLUSIONS:: Allogeneic serum eye drops may be a good alternative treatment for patients with severe dry eyes caused by GVHD.

Effects of Xylanase Supplementation to Wheat-based Diet on the Performance and Nutrient Availability of Broiler Chickens

Chiang, Chia-Chun,Yu, Bi,Chiou, Peter Wen-Shyg Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2005 Animal Bioscience Vol.18 No.8

A trial was conducted to evaluate the level of wheat substituted for corn in a traditional corn-soy diet and the xylanase supplementation effect on the growth performance and nutrient digestion of broiler chickens. This experiment was a randomized design with a 4${\times}$2 factorial arrangement with four levels of wheat substitution and two levels of enzyme inclusion in the diet. Wheat replaced 0, 25, 50 or 100% corn with or without 1 g/kg xylanase supplementation in iso-nitrogenous and iso-calorific experimental diets. The results showed that in the growing period, broilers attained the highest (p<0.05) body weight gain, feed intake, and relative small intestine weight when wheat was substituted at 25% for corn. The relative caecum weight increased (p<0.05) linearly with increasing levels of wheat substitution for corn. However, during the finishing period and entire experimental period from 0 to 6 weeks, no significant difference was shown in the growth performance among all treatments. Xylanase inclusion significantly improved the body weight gain, fat availability (p<0.01) and diet metabolisable energy (p<0.1) but decreased (p<0.05) the relative GI tract weight during the growing period. The digesta viscosity of 6-week old broilers was also decreased (p<0.05). It appears that wheat substituted for corn did not affect the growth performance, nutrient digestion, and the digesta viscosity of chickens. It is acceptable to completely substitute wheat for corn. Xylanase supplementation improved performance.

        Chiang-Soon Song,Jae-Heon Lim,Byeong-Hyeon Jeon,Hye-Sun Lee 대한고유수용성신경근촉진법학회 2019 PNF and Movement Vol.17 No.2

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a virtual upper extremity training program using the RAPAEL Smart Glove on upper extremity function in stroke survivors with chronic hemiparesis and to focus the training program development using the Smart Glove as a feasibility study. Methods: This study was conducted using a single group and pre-post test research design in the outpatient departments of local rehabilitation units. Ten chronic hemiparetic stroke survivors with a diagnosis of first stroke received therapeutic rehabilitation at the rehabilitation units. All the participants used a virtual reality program with the RAPAEL Smart Glove for 30 minutes per session 3 days a week over 8 weeks. They also received conventional occupational therapy with functional electrical stimulation for 40 minutes per session 3 days a week for 8 weeks as an additional therapy. To analyze the effects of this therapeutic intervention, four clinical measures, including the box-block test (BBT), the Wolf motor function test (WMFT), the trail-making score, the Jebsen Taylor hand function test (JTHFT), and grip strength, were used. Results: Upon completion of the intervention in week 8, all the participants demonstrated significant WMFT, JTT, BBT, grip strength, and trail-making score gains compared to the respective baselines at week 0. Conclusion: This study suggests that virtual upper extremity training using the RAPAEL Smart Glove has a reasonable and beneficial effects on upper extremity function in chronic hemiparetic stroke survivors.
