Monetary Integration Effects on Foreign Direct Investments in New EU Member States

This study examines the impact of accession to the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) on foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in the 11 New Member States (NMS), during the period 2005-2018. Using panel regression analysis and the gravity model, the influence of macroeconomic indicators on FDI outflows from 21 industrialised countries (including EU and non-European counties, such as Japan and USA) to the NMS is assessed. The empirical results suggest that favourable macroeconomic indicators in the NMS, such as a stable exchange rate, lower inflation, long-term interest rates and EU/EMU membership, are positively correlated with FDI inflows from NMS. Conversely, rising inflation and exchange rate volatility in the NMS are negatively associated with FDI inflows, while inflation in the FDI origin countries is positively correlated with investment in the NMS. The results suggest that joining the EMU has a statistically significant and positive relationship on FDI inflows to the NMS.
Effect of Replacing Beef Fat with Poppy Seed Oil on Quality of Turkish Sucuk

Sucuk is the most popular dry-fermented meat product. Sucuk has a relatively high fat. Poppy seed oil as animal fat replacer was used in Turkish sucuk and effects of its use on sucuk quality were investigated. There was a significant (p<0.5) treatment × ripening time interaction for moisture, pH (p<0.05) and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values (p<0.01). Increasing poppy seed oil level decreased (p<0.05) TBARS values. Addition of poppy seed oil to the sucuks had a significant effect (p<0.01) on hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess, chewiness and springiness values. Cholesterol content of sucuks decreased (p<0.05) with poppy seed oil addition. Using pre-emulsified poppy seed oil as partial fat replacer in Turkish sucuk decreased cholesterol and saturated fatty acid content, but increased polyunsaturated fatty acids. Poppy seed oil as partial animal fat replacer in Turkish sucuk may have significant health benefits.
TEACHING APPLIED MATHEMATICS FOR ENGINEERS - A NEW TEACHING PARADIGM BASED ON INDUSTRIAL MATHEMATICS

What is the "new paradigm"? It is impossible express it in one or two words, but if one had to, the closest might be the "holistic approach". The expression can be justified by the fact that the conclusions above lead to a greater intermixing of mathematics with engineering and natural sciences subjects. They also lead to a greater intermixing of subjects within mathematics so that the courses should have less separation e.g. between symbolic and numerical mathematics. The intermixing with other subjects is typically expressed in the form examples from simplified real problems. The conclusions also lead to the spreading the mathematics courses throughout all study years, not just the first two years. Of course, this should be done with great care in order to guarantee studies that are logically linked together. The new paradigm also means that the needs arising from industrial mathematics must be taken into account in the contents of engineering mathematics courses. Such topics are e.g. multivariate methods, statistics and use of mathematical software. What are we expected to gain from the paradigm shift? The primary benefit should be obtaining more productive engineers equipped with a better degree of mathematical preparedness for engineering problems. But in addition, it should also promote more intensive use of applied mathematics and easier communication with professional mathematicians, often needed in complicated industrial problems. Finally, it can be noted that the new paradigm is in harmony with the basic ideas of the CDIO (Conceive - Design - Implement - Operate) initiative for producing the next generation of engineers [1].
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome Associated with Valproate in an Adolescent

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a life-threatening idiosyncratic reaction that usually occurs after the administration of antipsychotic drugs. Antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and antiepileptic drugs are also suggested to be associated with NMS. It is believed to result from a dopaminergic blockade in the central nervous system. NMS is manifested by hyperthermia, muscle rigidity, autonomic dysfunction, altered mental status, leukocytosis, and elevated serum creatinine phosphokinase. Valproate is commonly used in the treatment of many psychiatric and neurologic disorders. Valproate can precipitate NMS, especially when used with antipsychotic drugs concurrently. A 17-year-old male patient, who presented with fever, muscular rigidity, confusion, sweating, and tachycardia was admitted to the emergency room. He had been taking only valproate for the last two months for bipolar disorder. His laboratory analyses revealed raised serum hepatic enzymes, creatinine phosphokinase, and myoglobin levels. Considering fever, rigidity, autonomic dysfunction, cognitive alteration, and high creatinine phosphokinase levels, the patient was diagnosed with NMS. In this paper, we aim to discuss the association between valproate and NMS.

Objective: To determine whether there is any difference between the cleft and non-cleft sides of the mandible in unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) patients, or the right and left sides in control patients; and to determine if there is any difference between the mandibular asymmetry of UCLP patients and that of control patients. Methods: We examined cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of 15 patients with UCLP and 15 age- and gender-matched control patients. We evaluated 8 linear, 3 surface, and 3 volumetric measurements and compared the cleft/non-cleft sides of UCLP patients and the right/left sides of controls. Results: There were no statistically significant gender differences in any linear, surface, or volumetric measurement. The single significant side-to-side difference in UCLP patients was a longer coronoid unit on the cleft side than on the non-cleft side ($p$ = 0.046). Body volume was significantly lower in the UCLP group than in the control group ($p$ = 0.008). Conclusions: In general, UCLP patients have symmetrical mandibles, although the coronoid unit length is significantly longer on the cleft side than on the non-cleft side. UCLP patients and controls differed only in body volume.

Recently, Jang and Kim in [4] introduced second kind Euler polynomials and second kind Genocchi polynomials. They proved some relations at these functions. Also, Ryoo in [17], [18], [19] introduced second kind Bernoulli polynomials, second kind Euler polynomials and second kind Genocchi polynomials. Ryoo calculated the numerical value of these functions. Also, he gave the distribution relation and di¤ernce relation.
