Two new species of Camellia (Theaceae) are described from Vietnam: Camellia vuquangensis Luong, Tran & L. T. Nguyen and Camellia hatinhensis Luong, Tran & L. T. Nguyen. The new taxa were col- lected from Vu Quang National Park in the center of Vietnam. The new finds are morphologically dissimilar to all known Camellia species. Recent Camellia discoveries have increased the number of species recorded in Viet- nam from 50 to 75, making Vietnam a center of diversity and a crucial area for more research into the diversity and distributions of Camellia.
Treatment of surface water using cold plasma for domestic water supply

This paper presents the results of using cold plasma to treat surface water for domestic use purpose. Experimental results showed that cold plasma was an effective method for destroying bacteria in water. After treatment with cold plasma, concentration of coliform and Escherichia coli dramatically reduced. Besides, cold plasma significantly removed water odor, increased dissolved oxygen and decreased the concentration of chemical oxygen demand. However, cold plasma significantly raised the concentration of nitrite and nitrate. Other disadvantages of treating with cold plasma were conductivity increase and pH reduction. Pretreatment steps of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation and sand filtration followed by disinfection with cold plasma exhibited a high efficiency in surface water treatment. All parameters of surface water after treatment by using the prototype satisfied with the allowance standard of domestic water quality.

Carbon-Nanotube Growth over Iron Nanoparticles Formed on CaCO3 Support by Using Hydrogen Reduction

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown by chemical vapor deposition on a mixture of iron salt and CaCO3. Salt mixtures of Fe(NO₃)₃9H₂O/CaCO₃ and FeCl₃6H₂O/CaCO₃ with various Fe weight contents were used as catalysts for growing the CNTs. A scanning electron microscope study revealed that the CNTs were densely grown on the Fe(NO₃)₃9H₂O/CaCO₃ catalyst containing 5 wt.% Fe. The effect of growth temperature on the segregation of Fe nanoparticles formed by hydrogen reduction is discussed. The result shows that 800 ℃ is the optimal temperature for the formation of Fe nanoparticles over which CNTs grow with the highest yield of 78.61 %. A raman spectroscope and a scanning transmission electron microscope were utilized to characterize the multiwall structure of the CNTs. The Impact of Capital on Growth of Small and Medium Enterprises: Evidence from Vietnam

Small and medium businesses (SMEs) play a critical role in the economy, yet they are plagued by a shortage of finance. Determining the influence of cash sources both inside and outside the firm is critical to the company’s survival and growth. As a result, the purpose of this research is to determine the impact of capital on the growth of SMEs in Vietnam. The key factors of this research are equity and liabilities, which are two proxies for a firm’s capital. The data is based on the results of a survey conducted every two years from 2005 to 2015, which included over 2,600 SMEs in 20 processing and manufacturing industries in ten provinces and cities, including Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Tay, Phu Tho, Nghe An, Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and Long An. The findings show that characteristics such as equity capital, total workforce growth rate, and male entrepreneurs have a positive impact on enterprise growth, whereas liabilities, firm age, and export have a negative impact on enterprise growth. The study has demonstrated that equity has a positive impact while liabilities have a negative impact on the growth of Vietnamese SMEs.
Breakdown, V-t and Degradation Characteristics of Insulation in Liquid Nitrogen for HTS Transformer

HTS transformer is one of the most promising devices to supply enough electric energy for quick increase consumption. However, for practical design of the HTS transformer, it is necessary to establish the research on breakdown, V-t characteristics, degradation, and so on. In this paper, we discussed breakdown characteristics and V-t characteristics of polyimide/L$N_2$ and glass fiber reinforced plastic/$LN_2$ composite insulations. These composite insulations have been used as turn-to-turn and layer-to-layer insulations for HTS transformer respectively, Moreover, we investigated the degradation of these insulation samples after breakdown using microscope and SEM photograph.

Disruption of the endothelial barrier functionand reduction in cell migration leads to endothelial dysfunction. One of the most abundant human milk oligosaccharides,6′-sialylactose (6′-SL), is reported to exert variousbiological functions related to infl ammatory responses. Inthis study, we evaluated the eff ects of 6′-SL on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced infl ammation caused by endothelialbarrier damage. Our results showed that LPS at 500 ng/mLstrongly not only abolished cell migration but also hyperactivatedMAPK and NF-κB pathways. 6′-SL suppressedLPS-induced endothelial infl ammation via ERK1/2, p38,and JNK MAPK pathways. 6′-SL supported endothelialjunctions by upregulating PECAM-1 expression and mRNAlevels of tight junctions, such as ZO-1 and occludin, whichwere downregulated by LPS stimulation. It signifi cantlyinhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB, along withthe downregulation of infl ammatory cytokines, includingTNF-α, IL-1β, MCP-1, VCAM-1, and ICAM-1. Furthermore,6′-SL abolished NF-κB-mediated STAT3 in controllingendothelial migration and hyperpermeability viadownregulating STAT3 activation and nuclear translocation. Finally, LPS induced over-expression of VCAM-1 and ZO-1disassembly in both atheroprone and atheroprotective areasof mouse aorta, which were reversed by 6′-SL treatment. Altogether, our fi ndings suggest that 6′-SL is a potent therapeuticagent for modulating infl ammatory responses andendothelial hyperpermeability.

Photocatalysis is usually considered as one of the most effective methods for treating non-biodegradable pollutants commonly found in textile wastewater. In this study, the photocatalyst of g-C3N4/MIL-53(Fe) was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and applied for the removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water. The photocatalytic material was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that the g-C3N4 doped MIL-53(Fe) with 97 wt% of MIL- 53(Fe) works effectively under visible light and the presence of oxidants (Na2S2O8). RhB removal efficiency can be more than 99% with 20mg/L of RhB, 300mg/L of catalyst, 200mg/L of Na2S2O8, and pH 3. In addition, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of RhB with g-C3N4/MIL-53(Fe) was also proposed, which could be improved and studied for a wide range of applications in textile wastewater treatment.
Laparoscopic Hartmann reversal: experiences from a developing country

Purpose: Laparoscopic surgery is considered a promising approach for Hartmann reversal but is also a complicated major surgical procedure. We conducted a retrospective analysis at a city hospital in Vietnam to evaluate the treatment technique and outcomes of laparoscopic Hartmann reversal (LHR). Methods: A colorectal surgery database in 5 years between 2015 and 2019 (1,175 cases in total) was retrieved to collect 35 consecutive patients undergoing LHR. Results: The patients had a median age of 61 years old. The median operative time was 185 minutes. All the procedures were first attempted laparoscopically with a conversion rate of 20.0% (7 of 35 cases). There was no intraoperative complication. Postoperative mortality and morbidity were 0 and 11.4% (2 medical, 1 deep surgical site infection, and 1 anastomotic leak required reoperation) respectively. The median time to first bowel activity was 2.8 days and median length of hospital stay was 8 days. Conclusion: When performed by skilled surgeons, LHR is a feasible and safe operation with acceptable morbidity rate.
