Nonlinear Focusing Wave Group on Current

        Touboul, Julien(쥬리언 투보),Pelinovsky, Efim(에핌 페리높스키),Kharif, Christian(크리스티안 카리프) 한국해안해양공학회 2007 한국해안해양공학회 논문집 Vol.19 No.3

Formation of freak waves is studied in deep water from transient wave packets propagating on current. Those waves are obtained by means of dispersive focusing. This process is investigated by solving both linear and nonlinear equations. The role of nonlinearity is emphasized in this interaction.

Early stage (IA-IB) primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube: case-control comparison to adenocarcinoma of the ovary

        Charlotte Vaysse,Cyril Touboul,Thomas Filleron,Eliane Mery,Eva Jouve,Pierre Leguevaque,Philippe Morice,Eric Leblanc,Denis Querleu 대한부인종양학회 2011 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.22 No.1

Objective: Early stage primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube (PCFT) is an uncommon condition when strict criteria are applied. The aim of this study was to compare the outcome stage IA-IB PCFT to a matched group of ovarian cancer (OC). Methods: Between 1990 and 2008, 32 patients with stage IA-IB of PCFT were recorded in the database of three French Institutions. A control group of patients with OC was constituted. Results: Eleven eligible PCFT cases and 29 OC controls fulfilled the stringent inclusion criteria. Median follow-up was 70.2 months. Five-year overall survival was 83.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 27.3 to 97.5) for PCFT and 88.0% (95% CI, 66.9 to 96.0) for OC (p=0.93). In the subgroup of patients with grade 2-3, the outcome was similar in PCFT compared to OC patients (p=0.75). Five-year relapse-free survival was respectively 62.5% (95% CI, 22.9 to 86.1) and 85.0% (95% CI, 64.6 to 94.2) in the PCFT and OC groups (p=0.07). In the subgroup of patients (grade 2-3), there was no difference between PCFT and OC (p=0.65). Conclusion: The findings did not reveal any difference in prognosis between early stage of PCFT and OC when grade is taken into account. Management of PCFT should mirror that of ovarian carcinoma. Local homeoprotein diffusion can stabilize boundaries generated by graded positional cues

        Quió,,inao, Cristó,bal,Prochiantz, Alain,Touboul, Jonathan The Company of Biologists Limited 2015 Development (Cambridge) Vol.142 No.10

Boundary formation in the developing neuroepithelium decides on the position and size of compartments in the adult nervous system. In this study, we start from the French Flag model proposed by Lewis Wolpert, in which boundaries are formed through the combination of morphogen diffusion and of thresholds in cell responses. In contemporary terms, a response is characterized by the expression of cell-autonomous transcription factors, very often of the homeoprotein family. Theoretical studies suggest that this sole mechanism results in the formation of boundaries of imprecise shapes and positions. Alan Turing, on the other hand, proposed a model whereby two morphogens that exhibit self-activation and reciprocal inhibition, and are uniformly distributed and diffuse at different rates lead to the formation of territories of unpredictable shapes and positions but with sharp boundaries (the ‘leopard spots’). Here, we have combined the two models and compared the stability of boundaries when the hypothesis of local homeoprotein intercellular diffusion is, or is not, introduced in the equations. We find that the addition of homeoprotein local diffusion leads to a dramatic stabilization of the positioning of the boundary, even when other parameters are significantly modified. This novel Turing/Wolpert combined model has thus important theoretical consequences for our understanding of the role of the intercellular diffusion of homeoproteins in the developmental robustness of and the changes that take place in the course of evolution.

SUMMARY: Mathematical modeling and simulations suggest that the local diffusion of homeoproteins during neuronal differentiation is enough to create smooth and reliable boundaries between cortical areas.

Impact of vaginal brachytherapy in intermediate and high-intermediate risk endometrial cancer: a multicenter study from the FRANCOGYN group

        Pierre-Alain Reboux,Henri Azaïs,Charles-Henry Canova,Sofiane Bendifallah,Lobna Ouldamer,Emilie Raimond,Delphine Hudry,Charles Coutant,Olivier Graesslin,Cyril Touboul,Pierre Collinet,Alexandre Bricou,C 대한부인종양학회 2019 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.30 No.4

Objective: According to recent European Society of Medical Oncology, European Society of Gynaecological Oncology and European Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology guidelines, adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy (VB) is optional in patients with intermediate risk (IR) and high-intermediate risk (HIR) endometrial cancer (EC). The aim of this French retrospective, multicenter study was to assess the impact of VB in these groups on local recurrence rate, local recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). Methods: Data of 191 patients with IR and HIR EC who underwent primary surgery with or without VB and no other adjuvant treatment between 2000 and 2016 were extracted from the FRANCOGYN database. Rate of local recurrence, OS and local RFS in these two groups were compared using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The number of patients with IR and HIR EC were 118 and 73 respectively. VB was used in 92 patients in IR group and 43 in HIR group. Median follow-up was 22 months. In the HIR group, the local recurrence rate was significantly higher in the no adjuvant therapy group in comparison with the VB group (16.7% and 0% respectively, p=0.02). There was also a significant improvement in local RFS (p=0.01) in VB group. In IR EC, there is no significant difference on local recurrence rate (4.2% and 3.2%, respectively, p=1.00) or local RFS (p=0.54) between the two groups. Conclusions: VB is an efficient adjuvant treatment for patients with HIR EC. VB is not associated with an improvement of RFS or OS in IR EC patient.

ASTROD I, Test of Relativity, Solar-System Measurement and G-Wave Detection

        Wei-Tou Ni,Albrecht Rudiger,Etienne Samain,Stephan Schiller,Diana Shaul,Sachie Shiomi,Timothy Sumner,Chien-Jen Tang,Jinhe Tao,Pierre Touboul,Haitao Wang,Andreas Wicht,Ji Wu,Xue-Jun Wu,Yaoheng Xiong,Ch 한국물리학회 2004 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.45 No.1

ASTROD-I is a mission concept under study to realize the general concept of ASTROD (Astrodynamical Space Test of Relativity using Optical Devices). This mission concept has one spacecraft carrying a payload of a telescope, ve lasers, and a clock together with ground stations (ODSN: Optical Deep Space Network) to test the optical scheme of interferometric and pulse ranging and yet give important scientic results. The scientic goals include a better measurement of the relativistic parameters, a better sensitivity in using optical Doppler tracking method for detecting gravitational waves, and measurement of many solar system parameters more precisely. The weight of this spacecraft is estimated to be about 300-350 kg with a payload of about 100-120 kg. The spacecraft is to be launched with initial period about 290 days and to pass by Venus twice to receive gravity-assistance for achieving shorter periods. With good orbit design, after about 370 days from launch, the spacecraft will arrive at the other side of the Sun for the determination of relativistic parameters.
