In Vitro Antioxidant and Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Nardostachys jatamansi DC.

Surendra Kumar Sharma,Ajay Pal Singh 사단법인약침학회 2012 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.5 No.3

In this study, the antioxidative potential of a hydroalcoholic extract of Nardostachys jatamansi rhizomes (NJE) was evaluated by various antioxidant assays, including antioxidant capacity by the phosphomolybdenum method, total antioxidant activity in linoleic acid emulsion systems, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), superoxide, hydroxyl radicals, nitric oxide (NO) scavenging, metal chelating and reducing power activity. These various antioxidant activities were compared to standard antioxidants such as butylated hydroxytoluene, tocopherol, catechin and L-ascorbic acid. Total phenolic and flavonoid content of NJE was also determined by a colorimetric method. The extract exhibited high reduction capability and powerful free radical scavenging, especially against DPPH and superoxide anions as well as a moderate effect on NO. Moreover, the peroxidation inhibiting activity of NJE was demonstrated in the linoleic acid emulsion system. The results obtained in the present study clearly established the antioxidative potency of Nardostachys jatamansi, which may account for some of the medical claims attributed to this plant.

Telmisartan-induced sprue-like enteropathy: a case report and a review of patients using non-olmesartan angiotensin receptor blockers

        ( Harshal Surendra Mandavdhare ),( Vishal Sharma ),( Kaushal K Prasad ),( Amit Kumar ),( Manish Rathi ),( Surinder S Rana ) 대한장연구학회 2017 Intestinal Research Vol.15 No.3

Recent studies have identified sprue-like illness associated with the use of the antihypertensive agent olmesartan medoxomil. However, whether this condition is specific to the use of olmesartan or is associated with the use of drugs belonging to the class of “sartans” remains to be clarified. A 45-year-old woman with chronic kidney disease along with hypothyroidism and hypertension presented with chronic diarrhea and significant weight loss. Endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract showed scalloping and grooving of the duodenum, and histopathological examination showed subtotal villous atrophy. She was on telmisartan for hypertension, which was discontinued. Subsequently, diarrhea ameliorated dramatically, and she regained weight. To our knowledge, this is the first study to report telmisartan-associated sprue-like enteropathy. Further, we have reviewed the cases of patients with sprue-like enteropathy caused by valsartan, irbesartan, and eprosartan. (Intest Res 2017;15:419-421)

Power-law shear-thinning flow around a heated square bluff body under aiding buoyancy at low Reynolds numbers

Neha Sharma,Amit Dhiman,Surendra Kumar 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.5

Power-law shear-thinning fluid flow over a heated square bluff body is numerically investigated underaiding buoyancy mixed convection at low Reynolds numbers. Semi-explicit finite volume code is developed to solvethe governing equations along with the appropriate boundary conditions. Both aiding buoyancy and shear-thinningnatures are found to augment the heat transfer rate from the surface of the long square bar. In aiding buoyancy, thetotal drag coefficient is found to be more for the square cylinder than that of the circular cylinder, whereas the averagecylinder Nusselt number for the square cylinder is found to be lower than the circular one on equal side/diameter basis. Maximum augmentation in heat transfer is found to be approximately 20% with respect to forced convection. Finally, aheat transfer correlation is established by using the Colburn heat transfer factor.

      • Molecular docking, QSAR and ADMET studies of withanolide analogs against breast cancer

Yadav, Dharmendra K,Kumar, Surendra,Saloni,Singh, Harpreet,Kim, Mi-hyun,Sharma, Praveen,Misra, Sanjeev,Khan, Feroz Dove Medical Press 2017 Drug design, development and therapy Vol.11 No.-

<P>Withanolides are a group of pharmacologically active compounds present in most prodigal amounts in roots and leaves of <I>Withania somnifera</I> (Indian ginseng), one of the most important medicinal plants of Indian traditional practice of medicine. Withanolides are steroidal lactones (highly oxygenated C-28 phytochemicals) and have been reported to exhibit immunomodulatory, anticancer and other activities. In the present study, a quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) model was developed by a forward stepwise multiple linear regression method to predict the activity of withanolide analogs against human breast cancer. The most effective QSAR model for anticancer activity against the SK-Br-3 cell showed the best correlation with activity (<I>r</I>2=0.93 and rCV2 =0.90). Similarly, cross-validation regression coefficient (rCV2=0.85) of the best QSAR model against the MCF7/BUS cells showed a high correlation (<I>r</I>2=0.91). In particular, compounds CID_73621, CID_435144, CID_301751 and CID_3372729 have a marked antiproliferative activity against the MCF7/BUS cells, while 2,3-dihydrowithaferin A-3-beta-<I>O</I>-sulfate, withanolide 5, withanolide A, withaferin A, CID_10413139, CID_11294368, CID_53477765, CID_135887, CID_301751 and CID_3372729 have a high activity against the Sk-Br-3 cells compared to standard drugs 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and camptothecin. Molecular docking was performed to study the binding conformations and different bonding behaviors, in order to reveal the plausible mechanism of action behind higher accumulation of active withanolide analogs with β-tubulin. The results of the present study may help in the designing of lead compound with improved activity.</P>

Antiulcer Potential of the Ethanolic Extract of Aerva Persica Merrill Root in Rats

        Neeru Vasudeva,Payal Sethi,Surendra Kr. Sharma,Suresh Kumar,Sunil Sharma 사단법인약침학회 2012 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.5 No.2

The ethanol extract of the roots of Aerva persica (Burm f) Merrill (Amaranthaceae) was investigated to determine its antiulcer and in vivo antioxidant activities in albino Wistar rats. Ulcers were induced by ethanol and pylorus ligation. The extract was administered at the dose of 200 mg/kg orally, p.o. for 15 consecutive days. The ulcer index of the ethanol extract was found to be significantly reduced compared with control animals. The effect was also assessed by determining the free acidity, pepsin activity, total carbohydrate (TC), and protein content (PK) in control, standard, and test group animals. The in vivo antioxidant activity was evaluated by determining the reduced glutathione level (GSH)and malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the tissue homogenates. The results reveal the significant reduction in the level of malondialdehyde and the increase in the level of reduced glutathione in the rats that received the ethanolic extract. Furthermore, histopathological studies have shown that pretreatment with the ethanolic extract of the roots of A persica reduces (100%) ethanol- and pylorus ligation-induced hemorrhagic necrosis in rats.
