This paper presents the experimental setup for autonomous navigation of a robotic vehicle for touring university campus. The robotic vehicle is developed for navigation of specific areas such as university campus or play parks. The robotic vehicle can carry two passengers to travel short distances. For the robotic vehicle to navigate autonomously the specific distance from the main gate to the administrative building in the university, the experimental setup for SLAM is presented. As an initial step, a simple method of following the line detected by a single camera is implemented for the partial area. The central line on the pavement colored with two kinds, red and yellow, is detected by image processing, and the robotic vehicle is commanded to follow the line. Experimental studies are conducted to demonstrate the performance of navigation as a possible touring vehicle.

Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia Caused by Arachnoid Cyst in the Cerebellopontine Angle

        Cho, Tack-Geun,Nam, Taek-Kyun,Park, Seung-Won,Hwang, Sung-Nam The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2011 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.49 No.5

Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is a relatively rare condition characterized by severe, paroxysmal episodes of lancinating pain in the tongue, throat, ear, and tonsil. This disorder is assumed to be due to compression of the glossopharyngeal nerve by vascular structures. A 47-year-old woman complaining of sharp and lancinating pain in the right periauricular and submandibular areas visited our hospital. Swallowing, chewing, and lying on her right side triggered the pain. Her neurologic examination revealed no specific abnormalities. The results of routine hematologic and blood chemistry studies were all within normal limits. Carbamazepine and gabapentin were given, but her symptoms persisted. Her pain was temporarily relieved only by narcotic pain medication. MRI showed an arachnoid cyst located in the right cerebellomedullary cistern extending to the cerebellopontine cistern. Cyst removal was performed via a right retrosigmoid approach. Lateral suboccipital craniotomy was performed using the right park-bench position. After opening the dura and cerebellopontine angle, the arachnoid cyst was exposed. The arachnoid cyst was compressing the flattened lower cranial nerves at the right jugular fossa. Her symptoms resolved postoperatively. Two months after the operation, she was completely free from her previous symptoms.

Integration of Bological and Chemical Methods for the Control of Pepper Gray Mold Rot Under Commercial Greenhouse Conditions

        Park, Seon-Hee,Bae, Dong-Won,Lee, Joon-Taek,Chung, Sung-Ok,Kim, Hee-Kyu The Korean Society of Plant Pathology 1999 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.15 No.3

Integration of microbial antagonists with fungicides was tried to control the gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea on pepper in greenhouse conditions and to reduce fungicide uses. All of the selected bacterial antagonists, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BL3, Paenibacillus polymyxa BL4, and Pseudomonas putida Cha94, completely inhibited the conidial germination of B. cinerea until 30 days after treatment. However, bacterial colonization of pepper phylloplane was poor in BL4, while the other bacterial isolates and the fungal antagonist Trichoderma harzianum TM colonized well on the phylloplane, maintaining the population density of 104-105 cfu/g until 15 days after microbial treatments. Out of 13 kinds of selected fungicides used for gray mold diseases, polyoxin B and BKF 1995 showed the most discriminatory activity on the fungal growth between B. cinerea and TM. TM grew readily on the media containing those fungicides, while B. cinerea showed poor or no mycelial growth on them. The selected fungicides and antagonists alone reduced incidence of gray mold on pepper, showing disease indices of about 2.4 to 3.0, while its was increased up to 4.2 in the untreated control. Alternate treatments with the antagonists and 2-fold diluted fungicides inhibited the disease incidence as much as the antagonists or fungicides alone, and reduced the secondary inoculum more than the single treatments. This suggests that integration of antagonists and fungicides may be an efficient way to reduce fungicide sprays with reliable control efficacy of the disease. However, there was not much difference in the early and mid-term disease progress among the treatments and the untreated control, probably due to extremely favorable environmental conditions for the disease development in this experiment.

        Park, Joo Kyung,Kang, Ki Joo,Oh, Cho Rong,Lee, Jong Kyun,Lee, Kyu Taek,Jang, Kee Taek,Park, Sang-Mo,Lee, Kwang Hyuck Williams & Wilkins Co 2016 Medicine Vol.95 No.21

<▼1><P>Supplemental Digital Content is available in the text</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) has become one of the most useful diagnostic modalities for the diagnosis of pancreatic mass. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of analyzing the minimal specimens obtained by EUS-FNA for the diagnosis of solid masses of pancreas.</P><P>This study consisted of retrospective and prospective analyses. The retrospective study was performed on 116 patients who underwent EUS-FNA of solid masses for cytological smear, histological analysis, and combined analysis including immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. In the prospective study, 79 patients were enrolled to evaluate the quality and accuracy of EUS-FNA histological analysis and feasibility of IHC staining.</P><P>The final diagnoses of all patients included pancreatic cancer (n = 126), nonpancreatic cancer (n = 21), other neoplasm (n = 27), and benign lesions (n = 21). In our retrospective study, the combined analysis was more sensitive than cytological analysis alone (<I>P</I> < 0.01). The overall sensitivity of cytology, histology, and combined analysis was 69.8%, 67.2%, and 81.8%, respectively. In the prospective analysis, 64.2% of all punctures were helpful for determining the diagnosis and 40.7% provided sufficient tissue for IHC staining. Histological analysis was helpful for diagnosis in 74.7% of patients. IHC staining was necessary for a definite diagnosis in 11.4% of patients, especially in the cases of nonmalignant pancreatic mass.</P><P>Histological analysis and IHC study of EUS-FNA specimens was useful for the accurate diagnosis of pancreatic and peripancreatic lesions. Combined analysis showed significantly higher sensitivity than cytology alone because IHC staining was helpful for a diagnosis in some patients.</P></▼2>

Clinical Utility of an Automated Pupillometer in Patients with Acute Brain Lesion

Park, Jeong Goo,Moon, Chang Taek,Park, Dong Sun,Song, Sang Woo The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2015 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.58 No.4

Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility and validity of using a pupillometer to assess patients with acute brain lesions. Methods : Pupillary examinations using an automated pupillometer ($NeurOptics^{(R)}NPi^{TM}$-100 Pupillometer) were performed every 4 hours and were simultaneously assessed using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and for intracranial pressure (ICP), from admission to discharge or expire in neuro-intensive care unit (NICU). Manual pupillary examinations were also recorded for comparison. By comparing these data, we evaluated the validity of using automated pupillometers to predict clinical outcomes. Results : The mean values of the Neurologic Pupillary index (NPi) were different in the groups examined manually. The GCS correlated well with NPi values, especially in severe brain injury patients (GCS below 9). However, the NPi values were weakly correlated with intracranial pressure (ICP) when the ICP was lower than 30 cm $H_2O$. The NPi value was not affected by age or intensity of illumination. In patients with a "poor" prognosis who had a Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) of 1 or 2, the mean initial NPi score was $0.88{\pm}1.68$, whereas the value was $3.89{\pm}0.97$ in patients with a "favorable" prognosis who had a GOS greater than 2 (p<0.001). For predicting clinical outcomes, the initial NPi value of 3.4 had the highest sensitivity and specificity. Conclusion : An automated pupillometer can serve as a simple and useful tool for the accurate measurement of pupillary reactivity in patients with acute brain lesions.

      • Role of the Mn substituent in Na3V2(PO4)3 for high-rate sodium storage

        Park, Jae-Sang,Kim, Jongsoon,Jo, Jae Hyeon,Myung, Seung-Taek The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Journal of Materials Chemistry A Vol.6 No.34

<P>Mn-doped Na3V2−xMnx(PO4)3 (<I>x</I> = 0 and 0.1) cathode materials, which allow extraction of 2 mol of Na from the formula unit, were synthesized, and the effect of doping was investigated. A large discharge capacity of 114 mA h g−1, approaching 96.6% of the theoretical capacity, was attained, which was theoretically activated by the V3+/4+ redox reaction. Structural investigation was performed using Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction data and X-ray absorption near-edge structure analysis. Successful substitution of Mn at the V site reduced the band gap energy from 3.32 to 2.44 eV according to density functional theory calculations and resulted in improved electron transfer. In addition, surface modification by carbon led to a high electrical conductivity of up to 10−3 S cm−1. The improved electrical conductivity resulted in a high discharge (reduction) capacity of approximately 114 mA h g−1 at a current of 10 mA g−1 (at 0.1C) with an excellent retention of approximately 108 mA h g−1 after the 100th cycle. The electrode provided a stable discharge capacity over 50 cycles tested at 10C (78 mA h g−1, 90% retention) and of 64 mA h g−1 even at 50C (5 A g−1). The synergistic effect of high electrical conductivity by carbon coating and reduction of the bandgap by Mn doping led to the delivery of a capacity of approximately 62 mA h g−1 (at 1C) at −10 °C. In addition, the C/Na3V1.9Mn0.1(PO4)3 cathode was fabricated as a full cell using a hard carbon anode to determine the above synergetic effects. Superior electrode performance was achieved, with an initial discharge capacity of 104 mA h g−1 and 92% capacity retention <I>versus</I> the initial capacity after 300 cycles.</P>

Temperature Dependence of Photocurrent of GaAsN alloys

        Taek Sung Kim,C- H. Hong,C. S. Park,E-K. Suh,H. J. Lee,J. Y. Park 한국물리학회 2003 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.43 No.I

The temperature dependence of the photocurrent of GaAs$_{1-x}$N$_x$ alloys was measured for different N compositions (0.0031 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.031). As the nitrogen composition in GaAs$_{1-x}$N$_x$ increased, the photocurrent peak was clearly red shifted in comparison with that of GaAs, and a transition from the temperature dependence of GaAs band-like states to that of more localized states was observed for higher nitrogen compositions. As the measurement temperature was increased, the photocurrent peak was clearly red shifted, and those read shifts were particularly notable for low nitrogen compositions. However, the shifts tended to saturate when the nitrogen composition become higher than 0.98 \%. When the nitrogen composition was in the range of 1.68 $\sim$ 3.11 \%, the measured temperature dependence of the energy band gap was nicely fitted. However, the properties for the nitrogen composition range of 0.31 $\sim$ 0.98 \% could not be fitted with a single fitting model; however, the properties could be well reproduced by using the band anticrossing model.
