<B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>The cover shows an image of fully rollable transparent nanogenerators synthesized using chemical vapor deposition grown large-scale graphene sheets as transparent electrodes and piezoelectric ZnO nanorod arrays. Sang-Woo Kim, Jae-Young Choi, and co-workers report on p. 2187 the electrical and structural stability of the nanogenerators, with excellent charge scavenging performance under external mechanical loads such as bending and rolling. This study shows that graphene-based nanogenerators are very promising for self-powered rollable transparent device applications. <img src='wiley_img_2010/09359648-2010-22-19-ADMA201090066-content.gif' alt='wiley_img_2010/09359648-2010-22-19-ADMA201090066-content'> </P>

Purpose: The survival of advanced colon cancer patients has increased due to the development of surgical techniques and adjuvant chemotherapy. The administration of adjuvant chemotherapy after curative resection is generally accepted as a standard of care. The primary endpoint of chemotherapy should include not only tumor response and survival, but also impact on the quality of life (QoL). We evaluated changes in QoL during adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with colon cancer. Methods: Between October 2009 and February 2012, 56 patients with stage II and III colon cancer received the combination adjuvant chemotherapy 5-flurouracil/folinic acid with oxaliplatin (FOLFOX). Patients were asked to complete the QoL questionnaire QLQ-C30 version 3 before and after 6 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy. Results: There was no significant difference in the QoL between the start of chemotherapy and after the completion of 6 cycles. After completion of 6 cycles, global QoL was worse in patients >70 years of age. The functional scale score was low in patients with chemotherapy schedules delayed more than 2 times due to adverse events. Patients with body weight increases greater than 5% scored lower on symptom scales. Interestingly, patients with peripheral neuropathy scored higher on symptom scales. Conclusion: QoL changes during adjuvant chemotherapy did not show significant differences. After the sixth chemotherapy, QoL was affected by age, body weight gain, delay of the scheduled chemotherapy, and peripheral neuropathy. Therefore, the proper attitude of physicians focused on reassurance and education of patients is very important during chemotherapy.

<P>We first employ highly-stable and -flexible (CF3SO2)2NH-doped graphene (TFSA/GR) and GR-encapsulated TFSA/GR (GR/TFSA/GR) transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs) prepared on polyethylene terephthalate substrates for flexible organic solar cells (OSCs). Compared to conventional indium tin oxide (ITO) TCEs, the TFSA-doped-GR TCEs show higher optical transmittance and larger sheet resistance. The TFSA/GR and GR/TFSA/GR TCEs show work functions of 4.89?±?0.16 and 4.97?±?0.18 eV, respectively, which are not only larger than those of the ITO TCEs but also indicate p-type doping of GR, and are therefore more suitable for anode TCEs of OSCs. In addition, typical GR/TFSA/GR-TCE OSCs are much more mechanically flexible than the ITO-TCE ones with their photovoltaic parameters being similar, as proved by bending tests as functions of cycle and curvature.</P>

The groundnut or cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) in Korea consists of 36 domestic varieties which have been developed and registered as cultivars for the public during last 25 years. To screen and identify of Korean peanut varieties and genetic resources, we present a simple and reliable method. A methodology based on simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers developed and widely used for prominent gene identification and variety discrimination. For identification of those 36 Korean peanut varieties, 238 unique peanut SSR markers were selected from some previously reported results, synthesized and used for polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Data were taken through acryl amide gel electrophoresis and changed into proper formats for application of data mining analysis using Biomine (all-in-one functional genomics data mining program). Consequently, twelve SSR primers were investigated and revealed the differences between those 36 varieties. These primer pairs amplified 27 alleles with an average of 2.3 allele per primer pair. In addition, those results showed genetic relationship by classification method within 36 varieties. The approach described here could be applied to monitoring of our varieties and adapting to peanut breeding program.

Tobacco smoke condensate (TSC) has been reported to be carcinogenic to several animal species and include a nom'her of tumor initiators and tumor Promot☞rs.3-Hydroxypyridine (3-PfOH ), asignificant constituent of tobacco smoke, has been shown to induce the cytochrome P4S02El. In thisstudy we have investigated the influence of 3-PyOH on the activities of hepatic cytechromes P4SOuonooxygenases 1p450s) and UDP-glucuronyltransferase (UDP-GT), sulfotransferase (57) and gluts-thioue-5-transferase (GST) in male Sprague-Dawley rats. and compared with effect of TSC on metabo-lizing enBymes in rats hep, atocytes. We also examined if 3-PyOH and TSC would change the toxificationof acetaminophen (AA) through modulation of metaboliaing eazymes.3-PyOH (2mmo1/kg, p.o., 5 days)significantly increased the hepatic P4501Al and eST activity to 1.5 fold and 1.3 fold of control, respectivety. Treatment of TSC (250#g/m f, 2 days) dramatically enhanced the activity of PfSOIAl to7.5 fotd of control in rats hepatocytes. Smaller, but significant increase was observed with the activityof P4501A2(1.6 fold of control) in TSC-treated hepatocytes. After pretreatment of 3-PyOH (2mmo1/kg,p.o.5 days) iB ICR mice, potentiation of hepatotoricity by AA (400mg/kg, i.p., 24 hr) tras observed bymeasuring serum ALT activities. In rats hepatocytes, cytoteficity of AA was caused by pretreatmentwith TSC (250#g/mf,2 days) at non-cytotoxic concentration (ImMf. These results indicate that both of3-PyOH.and .?SC are potent inducers of PfSOIAl, but have lift)e effect on the phase rl metabolizing en-zymes. Moreover, potentiation of AA toxicity by pretreatments of 3-PyOH or TSC may be related to in-ductioa of Pfsos.

Seo, Mi-Kyeong,Lee, Sun-Hwa,Choi, Yun-Jeong,Jeong, Yi-Na,Lee, Sung-Hack,Kim, In-Chull,Lee, Yong-Hee The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1996 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.19 No.5
The pharmacokinetics of LB20304 was investigated following intravenous (IV) and oral administration to rats and dogs. Additionally, in vitro metabolism and serum protein binding studies were also conducted. The total body clearance, apparent volume of distribution, terminal half-life, and extent of bioavailability were 21.8 ml/min/kg, 2265 ml/kg, 93.6 min, and 30.8% for rats; and 7.95 ml/min/kg, 4144 ml/kg, 363 min, and 81.1% for dogs, respectively. LB20304 was stable in the liver microsome containing NADPH generating system and its serum protein binding was 58.5-65.8% for rats, 19.1-29.6% for dogs, and 56.9-59.6% for humans. Its tissue concentration levels in lever, stomach, small intestine, and kidney were 9.5 to 26.1 times greater than plasma level, but the concentration in testis was quite low and that in brain was negligible in rats. The 48 hr urinary recovery of the dose was 44% for IV dosing and 14% for oral dosing, shereas the 48 hr biliary recovery of the dose was 6.4% for IV dosing and 4.5% for oral dosing in rats. In summary, the pharmacokinetic properties of LB20304 were characterized by its good oral absorption, long plasma half-life, and good tissue distribution.
