The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of a tube and badge type NO₂ passive air sampler. The principle of the method is a colorimetric reaction of NO₂ with N-1-naphthylethylendiamine under acidic conditions. The sampling rates for the tube and badge type passive air samplers was determined 12.3 ± 4.4 mL/min and 27.3 ± 4.9 mL/min, respectively, as obtained from the slope of the linear correlation between the NO₂ mass collected by the passive air sampler and the NO₂ concentration with the NO₂ analyzer. The tube and badge type passive air sampler were moderately correlated with a correlation coefficient of 0.9112. The measurement for the precision and accuracy of the passive air sampling was carried out with duplicate measurement of passive air samplers. The passive air sampler had good precision and accuracy for measuring NO₂ in atmosphere. A good correlation was observed between the passive air sampler and the NO₂ analyzer with a coefficient of determination of 0.9153 (tube type) and 0.9514 (badge type). This passive air sampler would be suitable for the NO₂ concentration monitoring in atmosphere.

Recently, the interest of the study about IGCC(Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle), one of New & Renewable Energy technologies, bas been increased due to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Low Carbon Green Growth policy, etc. Also, with this interest of IGCC, the study on the gas turbine utilizing the synthetic gas is performing actively. In the study of the gas turbine characteristic, the power performance and the combustion efficiency are mainly discussed and also the concern about the exhaust gas is being taken care of due to the increasing awareness of the environment. With this, we would like to go over the exhaust gas emission characteristic by the synthetic gas inflow in this test. In order to conduct such a test, we constructed a synthetic gas supplying system to supply the synthetic gases (H₂: hydrogen, N₂: nitrogen, CO: carbon monoxide, CO₂: carbon dioxide, and H₂O: steam) quantitatively and this combustion test was conducted by controlling the supplied synthetic gases artificially. The concentration of the exhaust gases appeared variously depending on the differences of the inflow nitrogen amount and the steam amount, whether or not the carbon dioxide flow in and so on. The results of the test can be able to be utilized for the IGCC study by understanding the exhaust gas emission characteristic of the coal gas turbine by synthetic gas composition.

The paradigm of Korean economy is transforming from catch-up to advanced style. The creative economy of President Park Geun Hye set a national strategy to evolve into an advanced economy. Under the situation, Science and Technology Policy Institute(STEPI) put together the study to define new roles and direction of changes of the National Science, Technology and Innovation System (NIS) to make sure the system to live up to the needs of the creative economy. NIS is the most comprehensive policy framework to understand macro environments, surrounding science, technology and innovation, as well as cooperative network of industry, academic and research sectors, involved in science and technology innovation and infrastructure to support them. Despite its huge policy potentials, NIS has not been widely utilized in science and technology policies in Korea as macro policy framework to cover entire spectrum of science, technology and innovation has not been established with frequent changes in science and technology policies and governance over the past 10 years. The study asked three questions to diagnose NIS of Korea in transition and explore the models. First, what are the challenges of the transitional time that call for change of NIS of Korea? Second, how NIS of Korea is diagnosed? Third, how and in what direction should NIS of Korea in transition change itself? To answer these question, the study reviewed both domestic and overseas environments of science, technology and innovation in 2014 and 2015, outlined science, technology and innovation policies of several advanced nations, defined new approaches and view points to better understand NIS, diagnosed NIS of Korea with collective knowledge of experts and set the direction of NIS upgrade. We hope the study can be a starting point to facilitate and expand comprehensive assessment reports to serve as a beacon to guide to new direction for science and technology innovation of Korea to go.

Lord Jim has two stories. One is Jim’s adventurous quest and the other is Marlow’s story-telling quest. Marlow’s attempt to communicate, however, is doomed to fail, for he cannot capture Jim’s experience or its meaning for himself. The self-doubting nature of Marlow’s involvement with Jim makes his narrative fragmented and self-tormented, and the ending is a compound of uncertainty, contradiction, and ambivalence. Marlow’s anguish in the drama of telling arises from the impossibility of fictional finis, in spite of the finality of Jim’s death. The writer struggle with the inadequacy of language, striving for a sense of clarity which turns out to be unattainable.
