The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fluoride gel treatment on the bond strength between composite resin and titanium alloys, and the effect of NaF solution on the bond strength between composite resin and titanium alloys. Five titanium and titanium based and one cobalt-chromiun based alloy were tested. Surface of alloys were treated with three different method ; SiC polishing paper (# 2,000), sandblasting (50 ㎛ Al₂O₃), and fluoride gel (F = 1.23 %, pH 3.0). After treatment, surface were analyzed by SEM with EDXA. Scotchbond MP and Superbond C & B were used as bonding agent. Light-curable composite resin (Z100) was filled into a cylinder-type (5.0 ㎜ × 7.3 ㎜) gelatin capsule. The capsule was place on the alloy surface treated by various method, and composite resin was cured by the visible light for 30 seconds at four different directions. Shear bond strength were measured by Instron (cross-head speed at 0.02 ㎝/min.). From the experiments, the following results were obtained. Fluoride gel did not affect the surface properties of cobalt-chromiun alloy (VTL) and nickel-titanium alloy, but other titanium alloys were strongly affected by the fluoride gel. Treatment with the fluoride gel showed similar bond strength to the sandblasted titanium alloys. Shear bond strength did not show the significant difference (p>0.05) with treatment time (5 min, 10 min, and 20 min) of fluoride gel. After ultrasonic cleaning subsequent to the fluoride gel treatment, fluoride ion or any complex of titanium-fluoride were not observed by EDXA. After treatment of the composite resin bonded titanium in NaF solution (1000 ppm, pH 3, 37 ℃) did not affect the bond strength between composite resin and titanium alloys.

N/A Between Nov. 1985 to Mar. 1987, we have administered endoscopic injection sclerotherapy to 54 patients who had bled from esophageal varices by intravariceal method and obtained following results: 1) In 27 patients who had reached complete sclerosis of esophageal varices, it took 4.7±1.9 (mean+SD) sessions (range 1-11 sessions) for complete sclerosing to occur. And taking the drop-out rate into consideration, complete sclerosis might be obtained in about 72% of patients with upto 7 sessions of treatment. 2) The failure rate of sclerotherapy representing death due to uncontrollable variceal hemorrhage and resort to operative management due to poor sclerosing response was below 10%. 3) Among those who have reached complete sclerosis, 11 patients were followed up for 1-11 months and in five of them (45%) further episodes of variceal bleeding were observed all of which were related to re-appearance of varices. 4) To prevent rebleeding from esophageal varices, it is important to maintain complete obliteration of varices and we recommend follow-up after complete sclerosis at 3 months` interval at least for the first one year. 5) Fatal complications have occurred at a rate of 1% on terms of treatment sessions in 5.5% of patients but with proper medical management no mortality has resulted. In conclusion, the endoscopic sclerotherapy using flexible endoscope and intravariceal injection method seems to be highly safe and may be an effective way of managing the patients with variceal hemorrhage both in acute control and long term prevention of variceal bleeding and therefore shou1d be considered as first line therapy prior to resort to operative measures.

<P>This paper proposes an on/off control of boost power factor correction (PFC) converters to improve the light-load efficiency in paralleled power supply units (PSUs) for servers. The proposed scheme operates the PFC stages of two paralleled PSUs alternately during one cycle of a 60-Hz ac input only at light loads. This improves the light-load efficiency without deteriorating the heavy-load efficiency by reducing load-independent losses such as capacitive turn-on and core losses. In addition, the proposed scheme alleviates the harmonic distortion by reducing the discontinuous conduction mode region. Experimental results from 1.6-kW PFC boost converters are shown to verify the proposed work.</P>
SIMULATION OF THERMAL STRATIFICATION IN INLET NOZZLE OF STEAM GENERATOR

Due to thermal hydraulics phenomena, such as thermal stratification, various events occur to the parts of a nuclear power plant during their lifetimes: e.g. cracked and dislocated pipes and thermally fatigued, bent, and damaged supports. Due to the operational characteristics of the parts of the steam generator feedwater inlet horizontal pipe, thermal stratification takes place particularly frequently. However, the thermal stress due to thermal stratification at the steam generator feedwater inlet horizontal pipe was not reflected in the design stage of old plants(Kori Unit No. 1, 2, 3 and 4, Yeonggwang Unit No. 1 and 2, and Uljin Unit No. 1 and 2; referred to as old-style power plants hereinafter). Accordingly, a verification experiment was performed for thermal stratification in the horizontal inlet nozzle steam generator of old-style plants. If thermal stratification occurred in the horizontal pipe of an old-style power plant, numerical analysis of the temperature distribution of the pipes and fluids was conducted. The temperature distributions were compared at the curved part of the pipe and the horizontal pipe before and after the installation of the improved thermal sleeves designed to alleviate thermal stress due to thermal stratification. The thermal stress reduction measure was proven effective at the steam generator inlet horizontal pipe and the curved part of the pipe.

Interleaved ZVS Two-Switch Forward Converter with Phase-Shift Control

In this paper, an interleaved zero-voltage switching(ZVS) two-switch forward(TSF) converter employing the phase-shift control technique is proposed. Since the proposed converter is based on the TSF topology, it has no chance to be a short circuit causing device failure. Furthermore, the interleaving operation of two TSF converters reduces the output filter size. In addition, by e employing the phase-shift control technique on the common clamping diode structure at the primary side, all primary switches can be turned on under ZVS condition. The operational principle, theoretical analysis, and design consideration are presented. To confirm the performance of the proposed circuit, experimental results from a 480W, 100㎑, and 400 V to 48 V prototype are presented.
