Upon sensing of microbial infections or endogenous danger signals in macrophages, inflammasome signaling plays a significant role in triggering inflammatory responses via producing interleukin (IL)-1β. Recent studies revealed that active caspase-1, a product of the inflammasome complex, causes maturation of inactive pro-IL-1β into the active form. However, the underlying mechanism by which this leaderless cytokine is secreted into the extracellular space remains to be elucidated. In this study, we demonstrated that prolonged lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment to macrophages could trigger the unexpected maturation and extracellular release of IL-1β through a nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3)-independent manner. Short-term treatment (less than 6 h) of LPS induced robust production of the IL-1β precursor form inside cells but did not promote the maturation and secretion of IL-1β in bone marrow-derived macrophages or peritoneal macrophages. Instead, prolonged LPS treatment (more than 12 h) led to a significant release of matured IL-1β with no robust indication of caspase-1 activation. Intriguingly, this LPS-triggered secretion of IL-1β was also observed in NLRP3-deficient macrophages. In addition, this unexpected IL-1β release was only partially impaired by a caspase-1 and NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor. Collectively, our results propose that prolonged exposure to LPS is able to drive the maturation and secretion of IL-1β in an NLRP3 inflammasome-independent manner.
Securing of Cross Sections in Walking Paths

The purpose of this study is to compare securing of walking roads’ cross section zones in the walking paths by street by street and city by city. The cities involved with this study are Seoul Metropolitan Area and Tokyo Metropolitan Area. The securing of widths are compared based on zone types such as frontage, pedestrian, and furniture zones. The widths are measured directly through on-site surveys. The widths measured are compared the standards given by the present paper. Among 22 sites, the satisfied sites are counted. In terms of frontage zones in Seoul Metropolitan Area, 17 out of 22 sites are counted as satisfied while in Tokyo Metropolitan Area, 18 out of 22 sites are counted as satisfied. In terms of pedestrian zone, in Seoul Metropolitan Area, 13 out of 22 sites are counted as satisfied while in Tokyo Metropolitan Area, 14 out of 22 sites are counted as satisfied. In terms of furniture zone, in Seoul Metropolitan Area, 14 out of 22 sites are counted as satisfied while in Tokyo Metropolitan Area, 11 out of 22 sites are counted as satisfied. In conclusion, although walking roads’ cross section zones such as frontage, pedestrian, and furniture zones are relatively a new standards in Korea and Japan, many sites are founded being satisfied with the standards. However, the rates of satisfaction differs city by city. Especially the rates of satisfaction in furniture zones in Seoul Metropolitan are somewhat higher while the rates of satisfaction in frontage and pedestrian zones are similar between two cities.
The Role of Tie Strength in Transaction Cost Economics: The Moderating Role of the Network Tie

Tie Strength retains pride of place among the researched factors in the field of marketing channels, by fostering pro-ductive relationships in marketing and other fields. There still remains however, a strong counter-view towards tie strength. In this paper, we explore the two opposite views on how the strength of tie influence’s relationship between a firm’s transaction cost and performance, is made. The expected hypothesis is that the relationship between tie strength and a firm’s performance is negative, when environment uncertainty is high. Additional hypotheses explain a positive relationship between tie strength and sales performance, when transaction-specific assets are high. How-ever, past and current research suggests that there remains little empirical evidence supporting the validity of this viewpoint
중복을 허용한 계층적 클러스터링에 의한 복합 개념 탐지 방법

클러스터링(Clustering)은 유사한 문서나 데이터를 묶어 군집화해주는 프로세스이다. 클러스터링은 문서들을 대표하는 개념별로 그룹화함으로써 사용자가 자신이 원하는 주제의 문서를 찾기 위해 모든 문서를 검사할 필요가 없도록 도와준다. 이를 위해 유사한 문서를 찾아 그룹화하고, 이 그룹의 대표되는 개념을 도출하여 표현해주는 기법이 요구된다. 이 상황에서 문제점으로 대두되는 것이 복합 개념(Complex Concept)의 탐지이다. 복합 개념은 서로 다른 개념의 여러 클러스터에 속하는 중복 개념이다. 기존의 클러스터링 방법으로는 문서를 클러스터링할 때 동일한 레벨에 있는 서로 다른 개념의 클러스터에 속하는 중복된 복합 개념의 클러스터를 찾아서 표현할 수가 없었고, 또한 복합 개념과 각 단순 개념(Simple Concept) 사이의 의미적 계층 관계를 제대로 검증하기가 어려웠다. 본 논문에서는 기존 클러스터링 방법의 문제점을 해결하여 복합 개념을 쉽게 찾아 표현하는 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 계층적 클러스터링 알고리즘을 변형하여 동일 레벨에서 중복을 허용하는 계층적 클러스터링(Hierarchical Overlapping Clustering, HOC) 알고리즘을 개발하였다. HOC 알고리즘은 문서를 클러스터링하여 그 결과를 트리가 아닌 개념 중복이 가능한 Lattice 계층 구조로 표현함으로써 이를 통해 여러 개념이 중복된 복합 개념을 탐지할 수 있었다. HOC 알고리즘을 이용해 생성된 각 클러스터의 개념이 제대로 된 의미적인 계층 관계로 표현되었는지는 특징 선택(Feature Selection) 방법을 적용하여 검증하였다.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes between robotic single-site myomectomy (RSSM) and single-port laparoscopic myomectomy (SPLM) by propensity score (PS) matching analysis. Methods: We included the retrospective data of 276 patients who underwent SPLM and 82 patients who underwent RSSM. Then, we conducted a PS matching analysis to control selection bias using age, gravidity, parity, body mass index, previous history of pelvic surgery, preoperative hemoglobin (Hb) level, preoperative c-reactive protein (CRP) level, and the number, type, and weight of myoma. We selected 76 patients for each group. Results: The matched RSSM group had a shorter hospital stay (OR=0.614, 95% CI=0.4140.913, p=.016) but had a longer operation time (OR=1.022, 95% CI=1.0101.034, p=.000) than the SPLM group. The former group also showed comparable blood loss (OR=1.006, 95% CI=0.9981.014, p=.138), Hb drop (OR=0.910, 95% CI=0.6571.263, p=.574), CRP change (OR=1.174, 95% CI=0.9991.379, p=.051), and complication rate (OR=0.846, 95% CI=0.1076.704, p=.874). Conclusion: The exact difference between SPLM and RSSM is difficult to determine because of the heterogeneity of the disease. The clinical outcomes of RSSM after PS matching analysis revealed the advantages of shorter hospital stays; comparable blood loss, Hb drop, CRP change, and complication rate; and longer operation times compared with those of SPLM.

<B>Background</B><P>The use of retroviral vectors has shown an actual clinical benefit in a few inherited diseases. However, the occurrence of cases of leukemia after the X-SCID gene therapy trial raised concerns about the safety of insertional mutagenesis inherent to the biology of the retrovirus. Although the retrovirus has long been known to integrate into the host chromosome, and thus have the potential to activate the nearby gene, there has been no convenient method of studying or assaying such a cis-activation phenomenon.</P><B>Methods</B><P>In the present study, we report an in vitro assay system in which the effect of retroviral integration on the expression of the neighbouring gene can be studied. In this system, a retroviral vector and the neighbouring reporter gene were constructed in a single plasmid as if it had integrated into the chromosome.</P><B>Results</B><P>Using this assay, we found that the full-length long terminal repeat (LTR) could indeed activate the neighbouring gene expression from a distance and the magnitude of its activation was highly increased when this LTR was placed in the vicinity of the transcription start site of the gene, whereas the truncated LTR exerted little influence.</P><B>Conclusions</B><P>This assay system might provide a useful tool for selecting the appropriate vector structure, as well as for studying the molecular mechanism underlying the cis-activation by the viral LTR.
