Effects of Dietary Cellulose on the Basal Endogenous Loss of Phosphorus in Growing Pigs

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of cellulose concentration in diets containing no phosphorus (P) on the basal endogenous loss (BEL) of P in growing pigs. Twelve barrows (an initial mean body weight = $49.6{\pm}3.2kg$) were individually housed in metabolism crates. Pigs were allotted to 4 experimental diets according to a cross-over design with 12 animals and 2 periods. Four P-free diets were mainly based on corn starch, sucrose, and gelatin, and were formulated to contain 0%, 4%, 8%, or 12% cellulose. Each period consisted of a 5-d adaptation and a 5-d collection period. The marker-to-marker method was used for fecal collection. The feed intake (p<0.05, linear and quadratic) and dry feces output (p<0.01, linear and quadratic) were increased with increasing dietary cellulose concentration. However, P concentration in the feces was decreased (p<0.01, linear and quadratic) with increasing dietary cellulose concentration. There was no significant difference in total P output and the BEL of P as mg per kg DMI (ranging from 157 to 214 mg/kg of dry matter intake) among experimental diets. However, values for the apparent total tract digestibility of energy, dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, and calcium were linearly decreased (p<0.01) with increasing cellulose concentration in the diet. In conclusion, dietary cellulose affected the amount of feces and digestibility of energy and nutrients, but did not affect the endogenous loss of P.
Odontoblast TRP Channels and Thermo/Mechanical Transmission

<P>Odontoblasts function as mechanosensory receptors because of the expression of mechanosensitive channels in these cells. However, it is unclear if odontoblasts direct the signal transmission evoked by heat/cold or osmotic changes. This study investigated the effects of heat/cold or osmotic changes on calcium signaling and the functional expression of the thermo/mechanosensitive transient receptor potential (TRP) channels in primary cultured mouse odontoblastic cells, with the use of RT-PCR, fluorometric calcium imaging, and electrophysiology. TRPV1, TRPV2, TRPV3, TRPV4, and TRPM3 mRNA was expressed, but TRPM8 and TRPA1 mRNA was not. The receptor-specific stimulation of TRPV1-3 (heat-sensing receptors) and TRPV4/ TRPM3 (mechanic receptors) caused increases in the intracellular calcium concentration. Moreover, the channel activities of TRPV1-4 and TRPM3 were confirmed by a whole-cell patch-clamp technique. These results suggest that primary cultured mouse odontoblasts express heat/mechanosensitive TRP channels and play a role in the underlying mechanisms of thermo/mechanosensitive sensory transmission.</P>

Alum $(KAl(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O)$ is an inexpensive, efficient, non‐toxic and mild catalyst for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes by the reaction of 1H-indole with various aldehydes/ketones under the influence of ultrasound irradiation in solvent‐free condition. The remarkable advantages of this method are the simple experimental procedures, shorter reaction times, high yields of product and green aspects by avoiding toxic catalysts and solvents.
Alum Catalyzed Convenient Synthesis of Quino[2,3-b][1,5 benzoxazepine α-Aminophosphonate Derivatives

We have described an efficient synthesis of quino[2,3-b][1,5]benzoxazepine α-aminophosphonate derivatives by the nucleophilic addition of triethyl phosphite to substituted quino[2,3-b][1,5]benzoxazepines promoted by easily available, inexpensive and mild catalyst KAl(S$O_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2$O(alum). The reactions proceed smoothly at room temperature under solvent-free reaction conditions and providing high yield of product in very short reaction time.

Novel SVPWM technique for three-level T-type Z-source inverters

In this paper, a new SVPWM switching technique, named ZSVM_1TI, has been proposed for a three-level (3L) T-type Z-source inverter (ZSI). ZSVM_1TI is based on three main modifications of the existing PWM techniques for 3L inverters. First, the existing SVPWM of a 3L ZSI has been modified to double the frequency of the null interval. After that, an improved version of the maximum boost control (MBC) has been proposed based on modified SVPWM to eliminate the problem of the sixth frequency ripple components of inductor current with the existing MBC technique of ZSIs. Finally, a new switching pattern of a reduced common-mode voltage (CMV) PWM technique has been proposed to increase the switching frequency of the impedance network so that the size of the passive elements can be reduced. The proposed ZSVM_1TI has been compared with the existing PWM technique in terms of the size of the impedance network, the dc-link utilization, and the inductor current ripple profile. The above-mentioned findings have been successfully validated using theoretical analysis, simulations, and experimental results.

In this paper, we propose an observer-based fi xed-time distributed multi-leader platoon control strategy for connected vehicles. The vehicles under consideration are partitioned into diff erent groups (parties or platoons). The aim of the control strategy is to force the vehicles within the same group to synchronize while tracking their respective leaders’ (head of the platoon vehicle’s) trajectories. The matrix based communication topology allows the platoon of diff erent groups to interact with each other and merge to a common point by maintaining a fi xed separation between the vehicles. A common approach to addressing this issue is to represent the associations between all target trajectories in diff erent groups using complex numbers. However, this makes it much less useful for tackling issues with intricate target formations. This paper introduces a matrix-based method for capturing data relating to communication among platoon vehicles of diff erent groups, which can be applied to various driving maneuvers such as merging and dividing platoons. A fi xed-time extended state observer is designed to estimate the states of the vehicles. A suffi cient condition is specifi ed that guarantees fi xed-time convergence using a multi-leader platooning architecture. Numerical simulation demonstrates the effi cacy of the suggested technique.
Efficacy and Tolerance of a New Anti-Regurgitation Formula

Purpose: Regurgitation is a common physiological phenomenon in infants. The aim of the present study was to eval-uate the efficacy of a new anti-regurgitation (AR) formula (Novalac), thickened with an innovative complex including fibres, on the daily number of regurgitations and to assess its impact on stool consistency and frequency.Methods: Infants younger than five months, presenting at least 5 regurgitations per day were recruited in this trial. The efficacy of the new formula on regurgitation (daily number and Vandenplas score), stool frequency and con-sistency were assessed at day 14 and 90. Growth data were recorded at each study visit.Results: Ninety babies (mean age 9.6±5.8 weeks) were included in the full analysis data set. The mean number of regurgitation episodes at inclusion was 7.3±3.4. In all infants, regurgitations improved after 2 weeks. The daily number of regurgitations decreased significantly (−6.3±3.3, p<0.001) including in those previously fed a thickened formula (−6.2±3.0, p<0.001). There was no significant change in stool consistency at day 14. After 3 months, 97.5% of infants had formed or soft stools. Growth was appropriate with a slight increase of weight-for-age z-score (from −0.5±1.0 to −0.1±0.9) and no change of weight-for length z-score (−0.1±1.1 to −0.1±−1.1).Conclusion: The new AR formula thickened with an innovative complex is very effective in reducing the daily number of regurgitations without having a negative impact on stools consistency.
