있을법함(vraisemblance)의 리얼리즘- 모파상의 소설창작론에 비추어 본 김동인의 창작관

본 논문은 김동인 작품세계와 연관지어온 사실주의와 자연주의를 제검토하여 한국, 프랑스, 일본의 다른 소위 "자연주의" 작가와 김동인이 어떻게 다른가를 살피고자한다. 김동인의 소위 자연주의를 자세히 살펴보면, 오로지 과학과 결정론의 시점에서 자연과 현실을 “있는 그대로” 그리고자하는 프랑스 에밀 졸라에 의한 자연주의나 현실을 있는 그대로 그리라는 주장을 작가 자신의 현실을 그대로 묘사하라는 것으로 재해석한 일본 사소설의 자연주의와 김동인의 창작세계가 사뭇 다르다. 프랑스 자연주의나 일본 자연주의가 추구하는 것이 현실에 복종하는 것이니 만큼 사실과 진실인 반면에, 김동인에 있어서는 현실과 진실의 관계가 창작의 장치에 불과 한 것이다. 현실에의 복종은 사실을 형성시키는 장치며, 진실과 흡사한(다시 말하면, 있을법한) 사건을 만드는 데 유용한 창작전략이다. 김동인에 의해, 이 장치는 문학의 근대성을 보장하는 조건이라고 봤다. 김동인이 문학창작을 다루는 평론에서 이러한 주장을 되풀이하면서 있을법함(vraisemblance)의 시학을 구상하였다. 이 평론들을 보면 김동인이 생각하는 자연주의.사실주의가 프랑스 사실주의 작가 모파상이 그려낸 리얼리즘의 이론과 흡사한 점을 많이 찾을 수 있다. 특히 에밀 졸라의 과학적 자연주의나 田山花袋의 “고백체”에 의한 자연주의가 작가를 단순히 관찰자로 봤다면, 반면에 모파상과 김동인이 작가를 창작하는 사람, 즉 예술가로 봤다는 점을 주목할 만하다. Le present article se propose d’interroger les notions de realisme et de naturalisme qu’on associe traditionnellement a l’oeuvre de Kim Tong-in sans arriver a rendre parfaitement compte de ce qui le distingue des autres auteurs dits “naturalistes”, que ce soit en Coree, en France ou au Japon. Il semble en effet qu’il y ait une particularite du naturalisme de Kim Tong-in qui le differencie du naturalisme a la Zola qui cherche une peinture “telle quelle” de la realite, en s’appuyant sur une vision scientifique et deterministe de la Nature, mais qui ne s’identifie pas pour autant a la lecture japonaise de ce mot d’ordre naturaliste selon laquelle l’auteur naturaliste doit representer fidelement sa propre realite personnelle dans toute sa verite. A cette double soumission a la verite du reel, Kim Tong-in oppose une approche strategique, faisant de ce rapport au vrai et au reel un outil creatif. Le rapport au vrai devient un appareil au service de la vrai-semblance, a l’aune de laquelle Kim Tong-in va juger de la modernite de la litterature. A partir de la, Kim Tong-in developpe dans ses ecrits theoriques egalement une veritable poetique de la vraisemblance qui n’est pas sans rappeler la poetique developpee par Maupassant autour du realisme et du naturalisme en France, et qui rend a l’ecrivain tout son statut d’artiste et de createur que le naturalisme scientifique de Zola ou le “confessionalisme” de Tayama Katai avaient reduit a un simple observateur. This article seeks to examine notions of realism and naturalism that have been traditionally associated with the work of Kim Tong-in without fully appreciating what distinguishes him from other so-called "naturalist" authors from Korea, France or Japan. Indeed, it seems that there is a feature of naturalism Kim Tong-in which differentiates it to the French naturalism of Zola who seeks to paint reality "as it is", relying solely on a scientific and deterministic vision of the nature. Kim Tong-in’s naturalism can not be identified either to the Japanese interpretation of this moto according to which the naturalist author must faithfully represent his own personal reality ‘as it is’, that is: in all its truth. Against this double submission to the truth of reality, Kim Tong-in opposes a strategic approach, making of this bind to the truth and the real a creative tool. The bind to the truth becomes an instrument for the shaping of truth, for creating likelyhood-to-the-truth or verisimilitude, something by which Kim Tong-in will assess modern literature. From there, Kim Tong-in elaborates a unique poetic of the verisimilitude in his theoretical writings that is reminiscent of the poetic developed by Maupassant around the realism and naturalism in France, which holds the writer for an artist and a creator when the scientific naturalism of Zola or the "confession-type" naturalism of Tayama Katai had reduced him to a mere observer.

L’attitude de Kim Tong-in face à la création littéraire et au rôle de la littérature

Kim Tong-in belongs to the generation of writers who, in the early 1920s, thrived to give Korea a modern literature. Unlike writers from the West who built modernity against tradition, Korean literature had no tradition to build itself against, ancient literature being written in classical chinese. Therefore in order to achieve modernity, they had to create a whole new literature out of nothing, or so they said. The first steps had been made by the generation right above, with the so-called Enlightenment literature, led by Yi Kwangsu who thought of literature as a way to teach modernity to the people. Yet the (moral) modernity put forward by Yi Kwangsu and the (literary) modernity sought after by the young writers of the 1920 was quite different. Kim Tong-in set himself apart from other writers as he didn’t satisfy himself with the general view of what modern literature should be like. Whereas other writers leaned towards realism and naturalism, Kim Tong-in thought of these trends as mere tools to create a work of modern literature. In other words, to Kim Tong-in’s eyes, literary modernity could not be reduced to realism. This is why literary critics and historians of Korean literature have struggled to define in a coherent manner Kim Tong-in’s literary world. He seems to be all over the places, leaning towards realism, then switching to eastheticism, before getting into romanticism or even nationalism. Instead of trying to define Kim Tong-in literary world in terms of literary trends as it has been done up untill now, we should try to grasp it in a more comprehensive way in order to seize its coherence within all these apparent incoherence. This article proposes to view Kim Tong-in’s approach to writing as an experimental approach. And by experimental, we don’t refer to modernism and avant-garde literary experimentations as much as a general attitude towards the very act of writing. In his search for literary modernity, Kim Tong-in, we believe, experimented with various trends, various concepts, looking for an answer to what literary modernity should be and without getting ever satisfied with one single answer. In his quest, two elements remained throughout his literary journey: 1. the belief that writing is an art form and therefore subjected to certain skills and techniques; 2. the dedication to give his country the literature that could best represent it.

Feasible tuning of barrier energy in PEDOT:PSS/Bi₂Te₃ nanowires-based thermoelectric nanocomposite thin films through polar solvent vapor annealing

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>For next-generation energy harvesting thermoelectric (TE) devices based on organic/inorganic composites, the barrier energy at interfaces of components is critical in determining the TE performances, because the barrier energy can directly enhance Seebeck coefficient (<I>S</I>). We have succeeded in precisely tuning the barrier energy in poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS)/Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> nanowires (NWs) based organic/inorganic nanocomposite films through polar solvent vapor annealing (PSVA). Controlling the PSS/PEDOT ratio as a function of PSVA duration, the work function of PEDOT:PSS was tuned, which eventually varied the barrier energy of nanocomposite thin films. Through optimization of Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB>/PEDOT:PSS barrier energy, the <I>S</I> was maximized up to 47 μV/K. The electrical conductivity was also maximized simultaneously, because of the PSVA-induced <I>π-π</I> stacking among PEDOT chains and templating effect. Density functional theory calculated an optimal barrier energy (0.12 eV), which showed an excellent agreement with our experimentally determined optimal barrier energy (0.11 eV), at which we also maximized the power factor—an efficiency indicator of TE performance. Our feasible strategy on the manipulation of barrier energy in PEDOT:PSS/Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> NWs through the PSVA can be extended to other organic/inorganic based TE composites, toward the realization of highly efficient TE devices.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We tuned the barrier energy of PEDOT:PSS/Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> nanowires through simply varying the PSVA duration. </LI> <LI> Simultaneous enhancement of Seebeck and electrical conductivity is achieved by optimizing the barrier energy. </LI> <LI> We achieved a power factor maximum of 223 μW/mK<SUP>2</SUP> when the barrier energy, Δ<I>E</I>=0.11 eV, at PSVA duration for 120 min. </LI> <LI> The optimized barrier energy for the enhanced Seebeck coefficient agrees well with the DFT calculated Δ<I>E</I> of 0.12 eV. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

어린왕자의 재해석

어린왕자는 어떤 책인가? 이 물음에 대한 대답 중 가장 놀라운 것은 어린왕자 가 세계의 모든 나라들을 통틀어서 가장 많이 읽힌다는 성경의 바로 다음 자리를 차지한다는 것이다. 다시 말해서, 그만큼 영향력 있는 작품임과 동시에 또한 그만큼 가장 잘 팔리는 책이라는 말이다. 어린왕자는 100여개 이상의 언어로 번역ㆍ출간되었으며, 한국에서만도 300여종 이상의 다양한 번역본이 존재하는 상황이다. 이 뿐만 아니라, 어린왕자는 남녀노소를 불문하고 모두가 쉽게 접하고 읽는 책 으로 알려져 있는 만큼, 어린이 독자들을 겨냥한 다양한 동화전집(한솔출판사 등)의 목록에도 반드시 포함되어 있는 책이기도 하다. 그 만큼 어린왕자는 그 글을 접하는 독자에게는 텍스트의 이해에 있어 전혀 어려움이 없는 수준의 언어로 구성되어 있다고 여겨져 왔다. 즉, 이 작품의 언어구사의 수준은 심지어 그 대상이 어린이들이라도, 책을 접하는 데 있어서 전혀 어려움이 없는 것으로 알려져 있는 것이다. 그 누구를 막론하고 접근이 용이하다는 이유 때문에 어린왕자는 프랑스어나 간혹 영어(학습용 영문합본의 경우가 대표적이다), 심지어 일본어(학습용 일한대역본의 경우)를 공부하기 위한 외국어 교재로도 종종 활용되고 있다. 이러한 접근의 용이성에는 어린왕자의 출판 배경도 한몫을 차지하고 있다. 제2 차 세계대전이 발발하자 미군 지휘 하에 있던 2-33 폭격기대에 복귀한 생텍쥐페리는 이곳에서 전투 조종사로 복무하던 중 어린왕자의 초안을 집필하기 시작했다. 1940년 아라스 전투를 치룬 이후, 생텍쥐페리는 뉴욕에 잠시 체류하며 아라스로의 비행Flight to Arras을 집필하였고, 1942년에 발표하여 큰 성공을 거두었으며, 이듬해 4월 어린왕자를 뉴욕에서 최초로 발표하기에 이른다. 이에 비해 프랑스에서의 출간은 생텍쥐페리가 사망한 이후인 1946년에 갈리마르 출판사에서 선을 보인 초판이며, 뉴욕의 출간에 비해 비교적 늦게 독자들에게 알려진다. 총 27장으로 구성된 어린왕자는 한국어 번역자에 따르자면 “《육년 전 어느 날》, 비행기 고장으로 사하라 사막에 홀로 불시착한 비행사가 사막 한가운데서 한 어린 왕자를 만났다가 헤어진 일주일 동안의 이야기”를 다루고 있다. 본 논문은 어린왕자가 ‘동화’라는 문학 장르로 분류되는 이유들, 예를 들어 독서 의 용이함이나 독자의 다양함에 기인한 해석이 어떤 문제를 야기하는지를 조명해보고자 한다. 셍텍쥐페리의 어린왕자는 과연 동화로 여겨질 기준에 충족하는 것이며, 만약에 그렇다면 그 기준은 또 무엇일까? 그 여부를 따져 보기 위해, 우선 동화의 정의를 살펴보기로 한다.

<P>We describe here a piperazine alkyl derivative, NSC126188, which induced apoptosis of HeLa cells by upregulating RhoB expression. NSC126188 caused multi-septation of fission yeast and hypersensitized a ???rho3 mutant, which implicates the involvement of functional human homolog RhoB. The treatment of cells with NSC126188 induced apoptosis and a dramatic increase in RhoB expression. In addition, RhoB knockdown using siRNA rescued cells from apoptosis, indicating a crucial role of RhoB in NSC126188-induced apoptosis. In a reporter assay using luciferase and EGFP under control of the RhoB promoter, NSC126188 increased both luciferase activity and the expression of EGFP, implicating transcriptional activation of RhoB by NSC126188. Furthermore, NSC126188 demonstrated in vivo anti-tumor activity, inhibiting tumor growth by 66.8% in a nude mouse xenograft using PC-3 human prostate cancer cells. These results suggest that NSC126188 is a potential lead compound and that upregulation of RhoB is associated with NSC126188-induced apoptosis.</P>
