      • Porosity features and gas permeability analysis of bi-modal porous alumina and mullite for filtration applications

        Ahmad, Rizwan,Anwar, Muhammad Shoaib,Kim, Jae,Song, In-Hyuck,Abbas, Syed Zaighum,Ali, Syed Ahmad,Ali, Fahad,Ahmad, Jamil,Bin Awais, Hasan,Mehmood, Mazhar Elsevier 2016 CERAMICS INTERNATIONAL Vol.42 No.16

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Bimodal porous structures were prepared by combining conventional sacrificial template and partial sintering methods. These porous structures were analysed by comparing pore characteristics and gas permeation properties of alumina/mullite specimens sintered at different temperatures. The pore characteristics were investigated by SEM, mercury porosimetry, and capillary flow porosimetry. A bimodal pore structure was observed. One type of pore was induced by starch, which acted as a sacrificial template. The other pore type was due to partial sintering. The pores produced by starch were between 2 and 10µm whereas those produced by partial sintering exhibited pore size of 0.1–0.5µm. The effects of sintering temperature on porosity, gas permeability, and mullite phase formation were studied. The formation of the mullite phase was confirmed by XRD. Compressive strengths of 37.9MPa and 12.4MPa with porosities of 65.3% and 70% were achieved in alumina and mullite specimens sintered at 1600°C.</P>

The role of polymeric matrices on the performance of smart self-healing coatings: A review

Shoaib Ahmad,Sehrish Habib,Muddasir Nawaz,R.A. Shakoor,Ramazan Kahraman,Talal Mohammed Al Tahtamouni 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.124 No.-

Self-healing polymeric coating is a class of self-healing materials applied on the surface of a metal to providea dense barrier, to protect the metal from the corrosive environment. Currently, Self-healing polymermaterials are an emerging area of research due to their high attributes, including intrinsic and extrinsicmechanisms with autonomous/non-autonomous healing approaches, longer lifespan, eco-friendly, highdurability, and sustainability. The polymer coating matrix provides the efficient release of incorporatedself-healing agents after triggering due to the crack formation in the polymer matrix, which aids theself-healing performance of the polymeric matrices. A variety of studies have been reported in the literatureon self-healing coating matrices; however, none of them have been reported as such. This comprehensivereview covers; (1) the generations of self-healing, (2) types of mechanisms, (3) classificationbased on self-healing polymer matrices, (4) typical fabrication techniques, (5) potential applications, and some critical thoughts on the choice and design of the self-healing system.

      • cMapper: gene-centric connectivity mapper for EBI-RDF platform

        Shoaib, Muhammad,Ansari, Adnan Ahmad,Ahn, Sung-Min Oxford University Press 2017 Bioinformatics Vol.33 No.2

<P>Results: cMapper allows biologists to search data entities in the EBI-RDF platform that are connected to genes or small molecules of interest in multiple biological contexts. The input to cMapper consists of a set of genes or small molecules, and the output are data entities in six independent EBI-RDF databases connected with the given genes or small molecules in the user's query. cMapper provides output to users in the form of a graph in which nodes represent data entities and the edges represent connections between data entities and inputted set of genes or small molecules. Furthermore, users can apply filters based on database, taxonomy, organ and pathways in order to focus on a core connectivity graph of their interest. Data entities from multiple databases are differentiated based on background colors. cMapper also enables users to investigate shared connections between genes or small molecules of interest. Users can view the output graph on a web browser or download it in either GraphML or JSON formats.</P>

      • Secure Mobile Commerce in Ad hoc Network Using CAEC2M

Khaleel Ahmad,Md Shoaib Alam,M A Rizvi 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.9 No.12

M-Commerce applications in the world have grown exponentially over the years. It had set up for mobile users to engage wirelessly of ad hoc network infrastructure in online business irrespective of place or time. Providing anonymous, secure and trust based connection service in ad hoc network is quite a challenging task. Anonymity, security and privacy of the transaction or message transmission are the highest priority need to be delivered to the destination node on time. In this paper, a CAEC2M (Cellular Automata Elliptic Curve Cryptography Mix network) algorithm to secure Mobile Commerce over ad hoc network is proposed. An attempt is made to design a mix-network (Mix-Net) using elliptic curve cryptography based on cellular automata which creates a hard to trace communication to protect the anonymity of the sender and encrypt the sensitive information to avoid any eavesdropper trying to access the data during transmission. CAEC2M provides also confidentiality, integrity and authentication.

Religious populism in Pakistani Punjab: How Khadim Rizvi’s Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan emerged

Sabat Ahmad,Shoaib Muhammad,Qadar Abdul 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2020 International Area Studies Review Vol.23 No.4

Khadim Rizvi’s open manifestation of religion helped him become one of the most popular leaders of Barelvi-Sunni Muslims in Pakistani Punjab. He emerged as the leader of a moral community during a crisis. After a series of protests and negotiated agreements with the federal and provincial governments, he was able to translate his support into electoral power. In the 2018 election, his TLP bagged 1.8 million votes (National Assembly seats) from Punjab. It was the first instance in recent political history when a newcomer religious party finished third in the province. No religious party had been able, in the last three elections (2008, 2013, 2018), to impact elections in Punjab as the TLP did in 2018.

Kinetics, isothermal and mechanistic insight into the adsorption of eosin yellow and malachite green from water via tri-metallic layered double hydroxide nanosheets

        Muhammad Altaf Nazir,Tayyaba Najam,Muhammad Sohail Bashir,Muhammad Sufyan Javed,Muhammad Aswad Bashir,Muhammad Imran,Umair Azhar,Syed Shoaib Ahmad Shah,Aziz ur Rehman 한국화학공학회 2022 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.39 No.1

The use of highly efficient, environment-friendly and economically inexpensive materials for the adsorption removal of contaminants from water has always been considered as emerging task. In this study, we synthesized hybrid tri-metallic nickel cobalt layered double hydroxide (NiCoAl-LDH) porous material for the adsorption removal of Eosin yellow (EY) and Malachite green (MG) from water. The characterization results disclosed that tri-metallic LDH has been synthesized with extraordinary purity, identical morphology and high surface area (134.21 m2·g−1). The NiCoAl-LDH performs the best for adsorption of EY (qe=37.30mg·g−1 at pH=2) and MG (qe=39.61 mg·g−1 at pH=10). The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to explain the adsorption process of dyes on the surface of LDH. The Langmuir model (R2=0.991 and 0.999 for Eosin Y and Malachite G, respectively) was very appropriate to explain the process of adsorption on NiCoAl-LDH as homogeneous (monolayer). The maximum adsorption capacity of EY and MG calculated with Langmuir model was 78.74 and 110.13 mg·g−1 at 30 °C, respectively. Also with 240 minutes contact time 94.8% EY and 89.9% MG was adsorbed by as synthesized NiCoAl-LDH nanosheets. The NiCoAl-LDH nanosheets showed excellent performance of reusability of up to five regeneration cycles. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of NiCoAl-LDH nanosheets after five regeneration cycles, to adsorb EY, decreased only from 40.80 to 36.93 mg·g−1 and that of MG from 79.21 to 75.42 mg·g−1, which is acceptable. The overall results Suggest that the fabricated NiCoAl-LDH is favorable for the purification of dye contaminated water.
