Scaling of the gate stack has been one of the major contributors to the performance enhancement of CMOSFET devices in past technology generations The scalability of gate stack has diminished in recent years and alternative gate stack technology such as metal electrode and high-k dielectrics has been intensively studied during almost matches that of conventional SiO2-based gate dielectrics. However, many technical challenges remain to be resolved before alternative gate stacks can be introduced into mainstream technology. This paper reviews the reasearch in alternative gate stack technologies to provide insights for future reasearch.

<P>Nonequilibrium deposition is a remarkable method for the in situ growth of unique nanostructures and phases for the functionalization of thin films. We introduce a distinctive structure of a mixed-phase, composed of BiVO<SUB>4</SUB> and β-Bi<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, for photoelectrochemical water splitting. The mixed-phase is fabricated via nonequilibrium deposition by adjusted oxygen partial pressure. According to density functional theory calculations, we find that vanadium exsolution can be facilitated by introducing oxygen vacancies, enabling the fabrication of a nanostructured mixed-phase. These unique structures enhance charge migration by increasing the interfacial area and properly aligning the band offset between two crystalline phases. Consequently, the photocurrent density of the nanostructured mixed-phase thin films is about twice that of pristine BiVO<SUB>4</SUB> thin films at 1.23 V<SUB>RHE</SUB>. Our work suggests that nonequilibrium deposition provides an innovative route for the structural engineering of photoelectrodes for the understanding of fundamental properties and improving the photocatalytic performance for solar water splitting.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has been widely used to manage hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) equal to or smaller than 3 cm. No-touch RFA has gained attention and has recently been implemented in local ablation therapy for HCCs, despite its technical complexity, as it provides improved local tumor control compared to conventional tumor-puncturing RFA. This article presents the practice guidelines for performing no-touch RFA for HCCs, which have been endorsed by the Korean Society of Image-Guided Tumor Ablation (KSITA). The guidelines are primarily designed to assist interventional oncologists and address the limitations of conventional tumor-puncturing RFA with describing the fundamental principles, various energy delivery methods, and clinical outcomes of no-touch RFA. The clinical outcomes include technical feasibility, local tumor progression rates, survival outcomes, and potential complications.

As a method of reducing NOx in a diesel vehicle, lean NOx trap (LNT) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) are mainly used. The Urea-SCR system has been evaluated as the best method of reducing NOx. In the Urea-SCR system, the urea water solution is injected at the upstream of the SCR catalyst. At this time, the urea water solution is hydrolyzed and decomposed into ammonia gas. The ammonia gas reacts with NOx in the SCR catalyst and NOx is converted to water and nitrogen. In order to improve the reduction efficiency, the SCR system should be optimized so that the urea water solution is completely converted to ammonia gas and has a high uniformity distribution. In this study, spray characteristics of urea water solution were analyzed through visualization using high speed camera under various test conditions. In addition, urea water solution was sprayed into a transparent exhaust pipe made with Pyrex tube to analyze spray behavior and wall-wetting phenomenon. In order to observe the influence of the exhaust pipe and the mixer shape, three types of transparent exhaust pipes and two types of SCR mixers were used.
Diagnostics of Automated Manufacturing Processes Using Event Time Durations

This paper addresses a new intelligent information technology designed for automated manufacturing diagnostics and maintenance decision support. This new solution, Factory EKG Technology (F-EKG), can help manufacturing enterprises to trace and record minimal motions in their automated machinery processes, detect process variation in real time, and provide early warnings to conduct preventive maintenance before failures actually occur. The technology fills the gap in the current diagnostics and fault detection tools heavily based upon sensing technology, rather that it digitizes existing PLC information to the rhythm of machine processes, which is enables faster detection of process behavior changes. We demonstrate the effectiveness of F-EKG with the real industrial applications.
