Cogging torque is often a principal source of vibration, noise and difficulty of control in BLDC motors. Therefore, this paper will present a design method of magnetization system with sinusoidal air-gap flux density distribution of Nd-Fe-B magnets in ring type for reduction of Vibration and Noise and low manufacturing cost.

Purpose: To evaluate the reproducibility of ImageJ software in analyzing the color of the optic disc. Methods: One hundred twelve normal participants (56 males and 56 females) were enrolled in this study. The image of the optic disc was taken using Kowa digital disc photo-graphy, and the gray scales of the nasal rim (NR), brightest cupping center (BCC) and largest inferior retinal vein (IRV) were calculated using histogram in ImageJ. Three different observers calculated the gray scales three separate times. Reproducibility was assessed using the interclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: The mean age of the participants was 50.6 years old (range, 11 to 82 years). The mean gray scales of the nasal rim were 91.81, 94.91, and 93.24; those of the brightest cupping center were 174.84, 179.94, and 177.76; and those of the largest inferior retinal vein were 61.85, 53.48, and 56.73 for observers 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Inter-observer reproducibility for NR, BCC and IRV was considered good based upon ICC values of 0.944, 0.860, and 0.789 for observers 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Significant age-related differences between the values of the brightest cupping center were noted, and the gray scale score was decreased in the older participants (p<0.001). Conclusions: The gray scale of the brightest cupping center diminished with age. ImageJ can be a useful objective tool with high reproducibility in the analysis of optic disc color.

<P>We have developed MICROMEGAS (MICRO MEsh GASeous) detectors for detecting a particles emitted from an Am-241 standard source. The voltage applied to the ionization region of the detector is optimized for stable operation at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The energy of a particles from the Am-241 source can be varied by changing the flight path of the a particle from the Am-241 source. The channel numbers of the experimentally-measured pulse peak positions for different energies of the a particles are associated with the energies deposited by the alpha particles in the ionization region of the detector as calculated by using GEANT4 simulations; thus, the energy calibration of the MICROMEGAS detector for a particles is done. For the energy calibration, the thickness of the ionization region is adjusted so that a particles may completely stop in the ionization region and their kinetic energies are fully deposited in the region. The efficiency of our MICROMEGAS detector for a particles under the present conditions is found to be similar to 97.3%.</P>

Adult spinal deformity (ASD) is one of the most challenging spinal disorders associated with broad range of clinical and radiological presentation. Correct selection of fusion levels in surgical planning for the management of adult spinal deformity is a complex task. Several classification systems and algorithms exist to assist surgeons in determining the appropriate levels to be instrumented. In this study, we describe our new simple decision making algorithm and selection of fusion level for ASD surgery in terms of adult idiopathic idiopathic scoliosis vs. degenerative scoliosis.

Rheological and mechanical properties of dual-curable automotive clearcoats containing different blocked isocyanate thermal crosslinkers (HDI, IPDI, and SMBI) have been compared by changing dual-curing sequences, i.e., UV-thermal dual curing and thermal-UV dual curing. Real-time elastic modulus data of clearcoats measured during several curing procedures have been correlated with the formation of crosslinked networks inside clearcoats. Clearcoat with SMBI shows increased modulus data due to the more reactive nature of functional groups in SMBI. Difference of rheological data of clearcoats under different curing temperatures during dual-curing sequences has been interpreted with the transition of chemical reactions inside clearcoats with different chemical structured crosslinkers. It turns out that scratch properties of cured clearcoats are also affected by the dual-curing sequence.

Cogging torque is often a principal source of vibration, noise and difficulty of control in permanent-magnet brushless DC motors. Cogging torque can be minimized by sinusoidal air-gap flux density waveform because it is produced by the interaction of the rotor magnetic flux and angular variation in the stator magnetic reluctance. Therefore, this paper will present a design method of magnetization system of bonded isotropic neodynium-iron-boron(Nd-Fe-B) magnets in ring type with sinusoidal air-gap flux density distribution and low manufacturing cost. An analytical technique of magnetization makes use of two-dimensional finite element method(2D FEM) and Preisach model that expresses the hysteresis phenomenon of magnetic materials in order for accurate calculation.
