Modelling and experiments of phase distribution and turbulence in bubbly two-phase flow

Gas-liquid bubbly two-phase flow is characterized as the flow where gas phase is dispersed in a form of discrete bubbles in continuous liquid phase. Although this type of flow is popularly encountered in various industrial equipments, our present knowledge of physical structures of such flows is still quite limited because of very complex hydrodynamical mechanisms involved such as time- and spatially-varying and deforming characters of gas-liquid interfaces with relative random motions of bubbles. Typical features of bubbly two-phase flow reflect on multi-dimensional effects which are closely related to a triangular linkage among turbulence and interfacial structures and phase distribution. This triangular linkage is, in turn, very sensitive to bubble size and configurations. In this report the state-of-the-art in multidimensional effects in bubbly two-phase flow is reviewed with particular attention directed towards experimental results and modelling in phase distribution and turbulence. Prediction models incoporate the equation of turbulence kinetic energy conservation derived based on two-flvuid model formulation. It will be shown that this turbulence energy conservation equation leads to an interesting conclusion that the turbulence energy of the liquid phase can be converted to surface energy and vice versa. Turbulence reduction in bubbly flow will be also discussed based on experimental results and predictions.
Optimal Trade Policy in an International Mixed Oligopoly

This paper investigates the effects of trade policies on the home country where homogeneous goods are supplied by a public firm, domestic private firms, and foreign private firms. It is shown that the home government always has an incentive to introduce positive tariffs in opening the economy regardless of whether there are public firms. Furthermore, if the optimal positive tariff is strategically introduced in privatizing the public firm, then privatization can improve welfare even when there are only a few firms in the market. This is in contrast to the existing literature that states that privatization worsens welfare in a closed mixed oligopoly with very few firms.
Security Technologies, Usage and Guidelines in SCADA System Networks

The use of off-the-shelf IT systems in SCADA systems has increased, resulting in higher usability at a lower cost. This has introduced a higher risk from cyber threats. As many SCADA systems play an important role in infra-structure and industrial systems, it is important to maintain reliability and security. However, applying cyber security measures should not interfere with the functionality of the SCADA system. We used a model SCADA system to assess various security measures deployed in the system. In addition, standards and guidelines will become more important for selecting appropriate security.

<P>The dispersibility of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) with water-dispersible properties, which were prepared by HCl treatment of cellulose resources, in organic solvents was investigated by cross-polar images. It was found that the CNCs were dispersed well in amphoteric solvents with strong Lewis acid and base properties, similar to the original water solvent.</P>
