<P>Because foodborne illnesses continuously threaten public health, rapid and sensitive detection of pathogens in food has become an important issue. As an alternative to time-consuming and laborious conventional detection methods, a technique using recombinant reporter phages has been developed. Here, we developed an advanced bioluminescent reporter phage SPC32H-CDABE by inserting a bacterial <I>luxCDABE</I> operon into the <I>Salmonella</I> temperate phage SPC32H genome. Whole SPC32H genome sequencing enabled the selection of nonessential genes, which can be replaced with approximately 6-kb <I>luxCDABE</I> operon, which provides both luciferase (LuxAB) and its substrate, fatty aldehyde, as generated by fatty acid reductase (LuxCDE). Thus, the SPC32H-CDABE detection assay is simpler and more efficient compared to the <I>luxAB</I>-based assay because the substrate addition step is excluded. At least 20 CFU/mL of pure <I>S.</I> Typhimurium culture was detectable using SPC32H-CDABE within 2 h, and the signals increased proportionally to the number of cells contaminated in lettuce, sliced pork, and milk. These results thereby demonstrate that this phage successfully detects live <I>Salmonella</I> without appreciable interference from food components. Furthermore, the presented data suggest that SPC32H-CDABE represents a promising easy-to-use diagnostic tool for the detection of <I>Salmonella</I> contamination in food.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/ancham/2014/ancham.2014.86.issue-12/ac500645c/production/images/medium/ac-2014-00645c_0005.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ac500645c'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Many people apply out of date yogurt on their face and share the effect of this on internet. Lactobacillus contained in yogurt is known to have the effect on skin whitening and preventing ages. Therefore, the research was designed in order to observe whether lactobacillus left in yogurt that was passed its expiration date can suppress the bacteria in face and prevent skin aging when applied to skin. Bacteria from face and nose were separated and were treated on solid media with yogurt solution absorbed into filter papers. As a result, the clean zones were observed near filter papers. Although the absorbance measured did not show the significant difference because lactobacillus and other bacteria were cultured together, based on the clear zones appeared near filter papers, it was hypothesized that lactobacillus was able to suppress the growth of skin bacteria. Moreover, as a result of treating separated face bacteria that can survive from acid condition, unlike lactobacillus in kimchi, L. sakei, the lactobacillus in yogurt did not show significant effect. However, active oxygen elimination ability through Fenton reaction was 59%, which is enough to remove active oxygen. Therefore, even after certain amount of time, lactobacillus exists in yogurt, thus it was hypothesized that this lactobacillus can help skin aging by suppressing the growth of bacteria and removing reactive oxygen.

김은정(Kim, Eun Jung),김영주(Kim, Young-Ju),문성미(Moon, Seongmi) 기본간호학회 2017 기본간호학회지 Vol.24 No.1
Purpose: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study in which an exploration was done of how nursing students perceive debriefing and what they think are the most effective debriefing methods for simulation-based nursing education. Methods: A convenience sample of 296 sophomore, junior and senior nursing students from three universities and who had attended simulation classes participated in this study. Survey data garnered was analyzed using descriptive analysis and x² test. Results: A high majority of the participants (98.3%) saw debriefing as “learning from mistakes”, while 62.8% considered it more important than simulations/scenarios. They also perceived debriefing to be effective when they analyzed their colleagues’ and their own performances and received feedback. Sophomore students preferred writing a reflection paper as an effective debriefing method compared to junior and senior students. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that debriefing is an important component of simulation-based education and should be considered part of the teaching strategies with debriefing methods dependent on themes and scenarios and what is needed to achieve learning outcomes.
Vol.62 No.12
Purpose: We report a case of keratitis that improved after removal of a causative plant foreign body from below the posterior surface of an opaque cornea. The foreign body was revealed by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and gonioscopy. Case summary: A 79-year-old woman was referred with an impression of left-eye keratitis; the eye had been injured by a branch of a tangerine tree 1 month prior. She had been given the usual topical antibiotics by a local clinic, but they were ineffective. At her initial visit, her visual acuity was only hand motion in the left eye; slit-lamp examination revealed a 3 × 3-mm corneal infiltration with a hypopyon in the anterior chamber. Despite administration of strong topical antibiotics on an hourly basis, the corneal lesion worsened. AS-OCT and gonioscopy revealed a small foreign body below the posterior surface of the cornea; this was surgically removed. The corneal opacity and corneal epithelial defects dramatically improved, and the hypopyon disappeared. Conclusions: The possibility of a residual foreign body should be considered if trauma precedes infectious keratitis that does not improve with conventional treatment and the posterior surface of the cornea is not visible because of corneal opacity. In such a case, AS-OCT and gonioscopy can be useful.

IAEA has the right and obligation to verify the states’ commitments for safeguards under the comprehensive safeguards agreement and additional protocols. There are IAEA inspections such as PIV, DIV, RII, SNRI under these agreements. As part of the implementation of this mission, the IAEA inspectors perform the verification for the state’s accounting reports related the nuclear materials such as ICR, PIL, MBR. To do well this verification, the inspectors often use non-destructive analysis, which aims to measure attributes of the items during the inspections. This kind of an activity aims to detect the missing nuclear items or wrong things in the facility using nuclear materials. In general, NDA techniques use the neutron counting and gamma ray spectrometry. Besides, IAEA also performs several verification measures as follows. - C/S (Containment and Surveillance techniques) is to maintain the continuity of the knowledge by giving assurance that its containment remains unimpaired. - Unattended and remote monitoring is to transmit the data from onsite of the facility through the on-line system. - E/S (Environmental Sampling) is to detect the minute traces of nuclear materials by smearing some points in the on-site of the facility. Nowadays, the above mentioned techniques are important ways to increase the effectiveness of the safeguards approaches reducing IAEA actual costs. To strengthen the effectiveness and improve the efficiency of safeguards approaches, IAEA always develops and adopts the techniques and equipment for safeguards. Especially, IAEA seems to be concerned with the improvement and development of the non-destructive techniques and equipment in the fields of nuclear fuel cycle. IAEA develops the new techniques and equipment through the help of MSSP (Member States Support Programs). The IAEA defines the needs of safeguards and coordinates the support programs. After the IAEA tests and evaluates the techniques/equipment developed, IAEA decides whether to use the developed techniques and equipment during the inspection by the procedure of the IAEA quality assurance. This paper aims at studying the current changes of the IAEA equipment such as DCVD, NGSS and HCES.
