This paper proposes a method to detect the misfired cylinder using a new misfire detection index. The new method of misfired cylinder is a comparison of pressure gradient during the blowdown period of exhaust stroke. If a misfire occurs, the engine will be lost some power and consumes the more fuel and the torque will be unsteady. Most of all, the misfire affects a bad influence of the 3-way catalyst and emits unburned hydrocarbon in the air. To prevent these unusual phenomena and eliminate the factor of the environmental pollution, it is important to detect the misfired cylinder. To do the experiment, set up the assist device on the conventional exhaust manifold. This assist device is not deformed for conventional exhaust manifold and installed in the end of the exhaust manifold. Experimental results showed that the method using the mean gradient pressure index is proven to be effective in the detection of misfired cylinder on gasoline engine regardless loads and revolutions of the engine
배기 다기관 형상 변경에 따른 배기계에서의 배기 압력 특성에 관한 연구

Exhaust pressure characteristics was described by change of exhaust manifold configurations in the exhaust system. Exhaust manifolds for analysis of exhaust pressure characteristics in this experiments were made and were single, double and conventional type of manifold. The pressure characteristics in the exhaust system were compared and analyzed according to exhaust manifold configurations, measuring positions, engine revolutions and loads. The results show that the peak pressure in exhaust system was decreased as the number of accessories in the exhaust manifold increased and the measuring position of sensor estranged from exhaust valve. And the accumulation of exhaust gas occurred in exhaust manifold was decreased by formulation of pulsating pressure wave than formulation of high pressure wave.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><I>Ecklonia cava</I> (EC) is a brown alga that evidences radical scavenging activity, bactericidal activity, tyrosinase inhibitory activity, and protease inhibitory activity. However, its anti-allergic effects remain poorly understood. In the current study, we attempted to determine whether pretreatment with EC induces a significant inhibition of asthmatic reactions in a mouse asthma model. Mice sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA) evidenced typical asthmatic reactions, as follows: an increase in the number of eosinophils in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid; a marked influx of inflammatory cells into the lung around blood vessels and airways, and airway luminal narrowing; the development of airway hyperresponsiveness; the detection of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and Th2 cytokines, including IL-4 and IL-5 in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid; and the detection of allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the serum. However, the administration of EC extract prior to the final airway OVA challenge resulted in a significant inhibition of all asthmatic reactions. We also demonstrated that EC extracts treatment resulted in significant reductions on matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and Suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (SOCS-3) expression and a reduction in the increased eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) activity. The treatment of animals with EC extracts resulted in a significant reduction in the concentrations of the Th2 cytokine (IL-4 and IL-5) in the airways, without any concomitant increase in the concentration of Th1 cytokines. These findings indicate that EC extracts may prove useful as an adjuvant therapy for allergic airway reactions via the inhibition of the Th2 response. Accordingly, this study may provide evidence that EC extract performs a critical function in the amelioration of the pathogenetic process of asthma in mice.</P>

지리 정보 시스템이 처리해야 하는 많은 질의중 대표적인 것은 2차원 평면상에 존재하는 객체를 대상으로 하는 공간 질의이다. 공간 질의는 기존의 인덱싱 기법으로는 효율적인 처리가 불가능하므로 공간 객체를 처리하기 위한 많은 공간 인덱싱 구조가 제안되었다. 그러나 제안된 인덱싱 구조들을 바탕으로한 공간 위상 연산 처리의 연구는 미흡하다. 공간 인덱싱에서 가장 많이 사용하는 최소 객체 포함자는 MBR(Minimum Bounding Rectangle)이다. 그러나 MBR을 사용할 경우 직선의 교차 연산이나, 최근접 객체의 검색시 비효율적인 측면이 있으므로 MBC(Minimum Bounding Circle)의 사용을 제안한다. MBC를 사용하여 교차, 포함, 피포함, 최근접 등의 공간 위상 연산을 처리하는 과정을 보이며, 다차원 동적 화일인 Grid File을 사용할 때 접근해야 하는 디스크 블록의 결정 방법을 소개한다.
Acid-Assisted Ligand Exchange Enhances Coupling in Colloidal Quantum Dot Solids

<P>Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are promising solution-processed infrared-absorbing materials for optoelectronics. In these applications, it is crucial to replace the electrically insulating ligands used in synthesis to form strongly coupled quantum dot solids. Recently, solution-phase ligand-exchange strategies have been reported that minimize the density of defects and the polydispersity of CQDs; however, we find herein that the new ligands exhibit insufficient chemical reactivity to remove original oleic acid ligands completely. This leads to low CQD packing and correspondingly low electronic performance. Here we report an acid-assisted solution-phase ligand-exchange strategy that, by enabling efficient removal of the original ligands, enables the synthesis of densified CQD arrays. Our use of hydroiodic acid simultaneously facilitates high CQD packing via proton donation and CQD passivation through iodine. We demonstrate highly packed CQD films with a 2.5 times increased carrier mobility compared with prior exchanges. The resulting devices achieve the highest infrared photon-to-electron conversion efficiencies (>50%) reported in the spectral range of 0.8 to 1.1 eV.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Impact of Cigarette Smoking: a 3-Year Clinical Outcome of Vasospastic Angina Patients

However, it is largely unknown whether smoking adds to any long-term clinical risk in VSA patients. Subjects and Methods: A total of 2797 patients without significant CAD underwent acetylcholine (Ach) provocation test between November 2004 and October 2010. Patients were divided into three groups, based on the presence of coronary artery spasm (CAS) and smoking habits (non-CAS group: n=1188, non-smoking CAS group: n=1214, smoking CAS group: n=395). All CAS patients were prescribed with anti-anginal medications for at least 6 months. The incidence of major clinical outcomes and recurrent angina of these groups were compared up to 3 years. Results: There were considerable differences in the baseline clinical and angiographic characteristics among the three groups, but there was no difference in the endpoints among the three groups (including individual and composite hard endpoints) such as death, myocardial infarction, de novo percutaneous coronary intervention, cerebrovascular accident, and major adverse cardiac events. However, there was a higher incidence of recurrent angina in both the non-smoking CAS group and smoking CAS group, as compared to the nonCAS group. In multivariable adjusted Cox-proportional hazards regression analysis, smoking CAS group exhibited a higher incidence of recurrent angina compared with the non-CAS group (hazard ratio [HR]; 2.46, 95% confidence interval [CI]; 1.46-4.14, p=0.001) and nonsmoking CAS group (HR; 1.76, 95% CI; 1.08-2.87, p=0.021). Conclusion: Cigarette smoking CAS group exhibited higher incidence of recurrent angina during the 3-year clinical follow-up compared with both the non-CAS group and non-smoking CAS group. Quitting of smoking, paired with intensive medical therapy and close clinical follow-up, can help to prevent recurrent angina.
