      • Long-term exposure to waterborne nonylphenol alters reproductive physiological parameters in economically important marine fish

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Low concentrations of nonylphenol (NP) in aquatic environment can induce drastic effects on the endocrine system in animals. In this study, we examined the modulatory effects of NP on reproductive and physiological parameters in juveniles of the red seabream and black rockfish following waterborne NP exposure (0, 1, 10, and 50 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>) for 60 days. In red seabream exposed to 50 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP> NP, plasma levels of 17β-estradiol (E2) and 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) were significantly lower at 30 and 60 days, while E2 levels were slightly higher in 10 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>-exposed individuals at day 30. Similarly, significantly lower levels of E2 and 11-KT were observed in 10 and 50 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>-exposed black rockfish at 60 days, whereas the E2 level was higher in 1 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>-exposed individuals at day 30. After exposure to NP, plasma and mRNA levels of vitellogenin (VTG) were significantly higher in both species at 30 and 60 days, similar to the inducible effects from synthetic estrogen. Plasma cortisol levels were significantly elevated by relatively higher concentrations of NP (10 and 50 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP>) at 30 and 60 days. Finally, 60 days of exposure of 50 μg L<SUP>−1</SUP> NP significantly decreased the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and increased the hepatosomatic index (HSI) in both species. The results obtained from this study provide an evidence of the endocrine disrupting potential of waterborne NP on early stages of economically important marine fish.         Combustion Kinetics of Pulverized Indian Coal-Char in Different CO<sub>2</sub>-O<sub>2</sub> Mixture Isothermally

        여러 $CO_2-O_2$ 혼합기체에서 인도산 분말숯의 연소반응실험을 수행하였다. 샘플을 분쇄하여 58 마이크론보다 작은 채로 거르고 질소분위기에서 숯으로 만들었다. CPRI 방갈로에 있는 열분석기 (TGA-50)을 사용해 실험을 하였다. $CO_2-O_2$ 혼합기체는 몰비로 (80-20, 60-40, 40-60, 20-80)을 사용하였다. 활성화에너지 (E) 및 지수앞자리인자 (A)을 통합접근 및 수정된 Arrhenius식을 사용해 계산하였다. Experimental work was carried out to study the combustion kinetics of the Indian coal-char in the varying mixture of carbon dioxide-oxygen ($CO_2-O_2$). The coal sample was pulverized and sieved to less than 58 microns and charred using volatile furnace by passing the nitrogen gas. The experiments were carried out using the Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA-50) at CPRI, Bangalore, different proportions of ($CO_2-O_2$) gas was allowed in to the TGA-50 (80-20, 60-40, 40-60, 20-80) mole basis were used to study the combustion kinetics of coal Isothermally, kinetic parameters like Activation energy (E) and the pre-exponential factors (A) are calculated using the unification approach and modified Arrhenius equation.

        An Exploratory Study of Cloud Service Level Agreements - State of the Art Review

        Cloud computing evolve as a cost effective business model for IT companies to focus on their core business without perturbing on infrastructure related issues. Hence, major IT firms and Small & Medium Enterprises (SME) are adopting cloud services on rental basis from cloud providers. Cloud Service level agreements (SLA) act as a key liaison between consumers and providers on renting Anything as a Service (AaaS). Design of such an agreement must aim for greater profit to providers as well as assured availability of services to consumers. However in reality, cloud SLA is not satisfying the parties involved because of its inherent complex nature and issues. Also currently most of the agreements are unilateral to favour the provider. This study focuses on comprehensive, 360-degree survey on different aspects of the cloud service agreements. We detailed the life cycle of SLA based on negotiation, different types of SLA, current standards, languages & characteristics, metrics and issues involved in it. This study will help the cloud actors to understand and evaluate the agreements and to make firm decision on negotiation. The need for standardized, bilateral, semantic SLA has also been proposed.

      • Recent progress for direct synthesis of dimethyl ether from syngas on the heterogeneous bifunctional hybrid catalysts

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The recent rising demand of renewable energies and climate changes has been driving intensive academic researches into new chemical routes to sustainable and clean fuel productions in order to meet the demands of industrial evolution by solving energy crisis due to limited fossil fuel reservoirs and increasing environmental pollutants. Dimethyl ether (DME) is a multi-purpose synthetic fuel and chemical that can be used as an excellent alternative to diesel fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The present review paper briefly provides an overview of the recent developments for a direct synthesis of DME from synthesis gas (syngas, CO+H<SUB>2</SUB>) over some hybridized bifunctional heterogeneous catalysts composed of copper-based hydrogenation catalysts with solid acid components such as alumina or zeolites mainly, where the catalytic activities significantly depend on its properties influenced by synthesis protocols, porosities, surface areas, interactions of active metals with supports, distributions of metal particles on the supports and so on. We have also briefly covered the hydrogenation of CO<SUB>2</SUB>, a model reaction for the utilization of CO<SUB>2</SUB> containing in syngas, to produce DME and thereby significantly mitigate its environmental impacts. Furthermore, the catalytic performances of the direct synthesis of DME by hydrogenation of carbon oxides were explained in terms of the acid sites of the solid acid catalysts and surface area of metallic copper nanoparticles in the hybridized bifunctional catalysts with their preparation protocols.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Dimethyl ether (DME) is a multi-purpose alternative synthetic fuel for diesel and liquefied petroleum gas. </LI> <LI> Recent direct DME synthesis from syngas was overviewed over hybridized bifunctional catalysts. </LI> <LI> Surface acidity and metallic sites for CO or CO<SUB>2</SUB> hydrogenation to DME are crucial factors. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Optimization of Wear Behavior on Cenosphere -Aluminium Composite

        The magnitude of wear should be at a minimum for numerous automobile and aeronautical components. In the current work, composites were prepared by varying the cenosphere content using the conventional stir casting method. A uniform distribution of particles was ensured with the help of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Three major parameters were chosen from various factors that affect the wear. A wear test was conducted with a pin-on-disc apparatus; the controlling parameters were volume percentages of reinforcement of 5, 10, 15, and 20%, applied loads of 9.8, 29.42, and 49.03 N, and sliding speeds of 1.26, 2.51, and 3.77 m/s. The design of the experiments (DOE) was performed by varying the different influencing parameters using the full factorial method. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the effects of the parameters on the wear rate. Using regression analysis, a response curve was obtained based on the experimental results. The parameters in the resulting curve were optimized using the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The GA results were compared with those of an alternate efficient algorithm called Neural Networks (NNs).

        Maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform-based power trace alignment algorithm against random delay countermeasure

        Random delay countermeasures introduce random delays into the execution flow to break the synchronization and increase the complexity of the side channel attack. A novel method for attacking devices with random delay countermeasures has been proposed by using a maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT)-based power trace alignment algorithm. Firstly, the random delay in the power traces is sensitized using MODWT to the captured power traces. Secondly, it is detected using the proposed random delay detection algorithm. Thirdly, random delays are removed by circular shifting in the wavelet domain, and finally, the power analysis attack is successfully mounted in the wavelet domain. Experimental validation of the proposed method with the National Institute of Standards and Technology certified Advanced Encryption Standard-128 cryptographic algorithm and the SAKURA-G platform showed a 7.5X reduction in measurements to disclosure and a 3.14X improvement in maximum correlation value when compared with similar works in the literature.

        Advanced analysis of cyclic behaviour of plane steel frames with semi-rigid connections

        This paper presents the details of an advanced Finite Element (FE) analysis of a plane steel portal frame with semi-rigid beam-to-column connections subjected cyclic loading. In spite of several component models on cyclic behaviour of connections presented in the literature, works on numerical investigations on cyclic behaviour of full scale frames are rather scarce. This paper presents the evolution of an FE model which deals comprehensively with the issues related to cyclic behaviour of full scale steel frames using ABAQUS software. In the material modeling, combined kinematic/isotropic hardening model and isotropic hardening model along with Von Mises criteria are used. Connection non-linearity is also considered in the analysis. The bolt slip which happens in friction grip connection is modeled. The bolt load variation during loading, which is a pivotal issue in reality, has been taken care in the present model. This aspect, according to the knowledge of the authors, has been first time reported in the literature. The numerically predicted results using the methodology evolved in the present study, for the cyclic behaviour of a cantilever beam and a rigid frame, are validated with experimental results available in the literature. The momentrotation and deflection responses of the evolved model, match well with experimental results. This proves that the methodology for evolving the steel frame and connection model presented in this paper is closer to real frame behaviour as evident from the good comparison and hence paves the way for further parametric studies on cyclic behaviour of flexibly connected frames.
