목적: 이소플라본은 콩의 한가지 성분으로서 골형성에 도움이 된다. 이 연구는 골형성성장인자-4가 존재할 때 이소플라본이 근아세포 C2C12세포를 골세포로 분화하는 작용 및 그 원리를 알아보려 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 이소플라본과 골형성인자-4를 따로 혹은 함께 C2C12세포에 작용하였다. 72시간 후 염색방법으로 알칼리 포스파타아제의 활성을 측정하였다. 알칼리 포스파타아제의 활성은 스캔한 이미지를 비교하는 방법과 분광광도법으로 분석하였다. 이소플래본 중의 한 가지 성분인 다이드제인으로 샘플을 처리한 후 세포 표면의 리모델링을 책임진 세포외기질 관련유전자의 발현을 마이크로어레이방법으로 분석하였다. 결과: 골형성성장인자-4 혹은 이소플래본을 작용한 후 C2C12세포들의 알칼리 포스파타아제의 활성은 골형성성장인자-4의 농도에 따라 증가하였으나 이소플라본이 단독으로 작용했을 때는 변화가 없었다. 이소플라본과 골형성성장인자-4가 동시에 작용했을 때 알칼리 포스파타아제의 활성은 증가되었다. 마이크로어레이의 결과 세포외 기질 관련유전자들 중 Mmp13과 Mmp3 등 발현이 증가하였으나 Co14a2, Co15a1과 Mmp9 등은 감소되었다. 결론: 이소플라본은 골형성인자-4와 함께 조골세포 분화를 유발하는데 이는 가능하게 서로 다른 세포외기질 관련유전자에 영향을 주어 이루어진다. Purpose: Isoflavones are rich in soybean and are known to affect bone formation. This study examined the effects and modes of action of isoflavones on the differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts in the presence of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-4. Materials and Methods: The isoflavones, daidzein, genistein or equol, and/or BMP-4 were added alone or in combination to C2C12 myoblasts. After 72 hours culture, the cells were stained for the early osteoblastic differentiation marker, alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The ALP activity was determined by comparing the color of the stained images as well as by spectrophotometry. The expression profiles of the extracellular matrix (ECM) genes responsible for the extensive remodeling at the cell surface were analyzed using agene expression microarray after treating thesamples with daidzein. Results: ALP staining of BMP-4 or the isoflavones-treated cells showed that BMP-4 increased the activity of ALP in a dose dependent manner, whereas the isoflavones alone did not induced any remarkable increase. However, the ALP activity increased when the cells were treated with BMP-4 and any of the three isoflavones. The macrogen mouse MAC array data showed that the ECM genes, Mmp13 and Mmp3, were up-regulated by daidzein, whereas Col4a2, Col5a1 and Mmp9 were down-regulated. Conclusion: Isoflavones induce osteoblastic differentiation when combined with BMP-4, which is possibly achieved by modulating the expressional levels of various ECM genes.

We proposed a new process to fabricate micro-scale polymer wrinkles on a curved surface. A UV-curable resin layer on a substrate is weakly polymerized by a small dose of UV-light. By the exposure, there is a curing gradient through the thickness in the resin layer; fully-polymerized zone on the surface and sol-gel inside. Then, it is cured completely under temperature of <TEX>$28^{\circ}C$</TEX>. According to the different states between surface and inside of the layer, a compressive force is generated on the surface zone during a fully-curing process. Through this work, regular surface wrinkles are generated on the surface with a width of around <TEX>$20{\mu}m$</TEX>. To reduce the total processing time, an approach of thermal curing after weak-polymerization is proposed. We believed that the proposed method can be applied to make wrinkles on arbitrary-shaped surface for applications to diverse research fields such as heat transfer and catalyst enhancement.

<P>The fabrication of a hybrid structure with a gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticle assembly and a Ta2O5 thin-film layer was demonstrated. This hybrid device rejuvenated the switching characteristics of only the Ta2O5 thin film. The hybrid device manifested the typical bipolar switching characteristics in the structure of Ti/gamma-Fe2O3/Ta2O5/Pt on the SiO2/Si substrate. The SET voltage (V-SET) was observed at similar to+1.6 V, and the RESET voltage (V-RESET), at similar to-1 V, which are smaller compared to those of the Ti/Ta2O5/Pt device. The temperature-dependent switching characteristics of both devices were studied to understand the conduction mechanism in both devices. The results were space charge limited conduction (SCLC) for the higher voltages at a high resistance state (HRS) and purely ohmic conduction at a low resistance state (LRS). The devices showed a high and stable ratio of currents in LRS and HRS. Finally, it was confirmed that the insertion of the gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticle assembly at the interface of Ti/Ta2O5 rejuvenated the switching characteristics of the hybrid device.</P>

<P>Even though Ac/Ds gene-tagging systems have been established in many higher plants, maize is the only major plant in which short-distance transposition of Ac/Ds has been utilized to probe gene function. This study was performed to evaluate the efficiency of obtaining new alleles and functional revertants from Ds insertion loci in rice. By analyzing 1,580 plants and the progeny of selected lines, the insertion sites and orientations of Ds elements within 16 new heritable alleles of three rice loci were identified and characterized. Intragenic transposition was detected in both directions from the original insertion sites. The closest interval was 35 bp. Three of the alleles had two Ds elements in cis configuration in the same transcription units. We also analyzed the excision footprints of intragenic and extragenic transpositions in Ds-inserted alleles at 5 loci. The 134 footprints obtained from different plants revealed predominant patterns. Ds excision at each locus left a predominant footprint at frequencies of 30-75%. Overall, 66% of the footprints were 7-bp additions. In addition, 16% of the excisions left 0-, 3-, 6-, and 9-bp additions with the potential of conserving reading frame.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The resistive switching characteristics of MnO and CeO<SUB>2</SUB> layers with a large resistance ratio (>10<SUP>5</SUP>) were demonstrated. The Ag/MnO/CeO<SUB>2</SUB>/Pt devices with heterostructures were fabricated. The bipolar resistive switching behaviors were caused by the formation and disruption of conducting filaments in the switching layers. In CeO<SUB>2</SUB> layer, the formation and rupture of conducting filaments was attributed to the reduction-oxidation reaction of CeO<SUB>2</SUB> and CeO<SUB>2−x</SUB>. Two Cases of Polymyositis associated with Liver cirrhosis

다발성 근염은 원인이 알려져 있지 않은 비화농성 염증성 근육질환이다. 최근에 저자는 2예의 간경화에 병발된 다발성 근염을 경험하였다. 다발성 근염의 일반적인 임상양상은 전신적 피로감 전신적 근육통 다량의 혈뇨 그리고 CK, LDH, aldolase 와 CPK의 급격한 상승을 볼 수 있다. 두 환자는 이전에 간경화로 치료를 받고 있었으며 한 환자는 입원후 곧 사망하였다. 사인은 급성고 칼륨혈증으로 추정되며 환자는 HCV 간염에 병발된 간경화였다. 나머지 환자는 알콜에 의한 간경화 환자이다. 환자는 급성신부전으로 혈액투석을 받았으며 CK, LDH, CPK, 그리고 aldolase 모두가 정상수치로 돌아왔으며 BUN, Cr.도 정상수치로 돌아왔다. 간경화에 병발된 다발성 근염 원인은 아직 알려져 있지 않으나 바이러스성 감염이나 자가면역과 연관된 가능성으로 인식되고 있다. 저자들은 2예의 증례보고와 문헌고찰을 보고하는 바이며 이러한 예들은 급진적으로 진행되는 병이므로 응급치료를 요하며 다발성 근염은 급성신부전으로 잘 진행되지 않는다. 그러나 본 증례의 경우 모두급성신부전으로 진행이 되었다. 이러한 환자들은 예후가 좋지않으나 치료가 발달함에 따라 조기진단과 즉각적인 치료를 하여 예후가 좋아질 수 있다. Polymyositis is a nonsuppurative inflammatory muscle disease of unknown etiology. Recently, we have experienced two cases with Polymyositis associated with liver cirrhosis. General weakness, general muscular ache(neck and back), massive hematuria and the marked elevations of CK, LDH, aldolase, and CPK were characteristics clinical findings. They had previously liver cirrhosis. One patient died soon after admission(due to acute hyperkalemia). One patient was female and she had liver cirrhosis related to HCV infection. The other patient was male in which alcoholic induced liver cirrhosis. He underwent hemodialysis due to acute renal failure. After hemodialysis level of CK, LDH, CPK, and aldolase decreased to normal value. Also BUN, and Cr. values decreased to normal value. The cause of Polymyositis in cirrhosis are not known yet; However, we suggest that it might be related to the viral infection or combined with autoimmune state. We present the cases with review of literature; and these cases were rapid progressive disease and needed emergency treatment. Polymyositis rarely leads to acute renal failure. Two case were reported here, and certain their common features in reported cases are discussed. Given therapeutic advances, these patients should do well despite the dismal prognosis reported in the literature, but early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential.
