A rapid pneumatic transfer system (PTS) for an instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is developed as an automatic irradiation facility involving the measurement of a short half-life nuclide and a delayed neutron counting system. Three new PTS designs with improved functions were constructed at the HANARO research reactor in 2006. The new system is composed of a manual system and an automatic system for both an INAA and a delayed neutron activation analysis (DNAA). The design and basic conception of a modified PTS are described, and the functions of system operation and control, radiation protection and emissions of radioactive gas are improved. In addition, a form of capsule transportation of these systems is tested. The experimental results pertaining to the irradiation characteristics with variation of the neutron flux and the temperature of the irradiation position with the irradiation time are presented, as is an analysis of the reference material for analytical quality control and uncertainty assessments.

Background : Cognitive impairment has been recognized as a possible complication of diabetes mathtus (DM). It is well known that event-related potentials (ERPs) and Hopkins verbal Leaming Test (HVLT) are clinical tools in the evaluation of the patients who suffer from disorders of congnition. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of diabetes meltus and its complications on the ERPs nad HVLT. Methods : A cross sectional comparative study of the 51 normal controls and the 40 non-demented NIDDM patients who had no neurologic deficits was performed. The study consisted of a neurologic examination. Short form-Samsung Dementia Questionnaire brain CT. ERPs, HVLT, nerve conduction study, fundus examination and biochemical study Results : The P300 latencies of the DM patients and the normal control groups were well correlated with age Compared with controls, the P300 latencies of the patients were signficantly prolonged In NIDDM patients, prolonged P300 latencies were not associated with neuropathy but with retinopathy (p<.05) P300 latencies of NIDDM were correlated with immediate free recail of HVLT. There were no significant differences in scores of HVLT components between NIDDM and normal control group Conclusions : NIDDM patients without overt dementia or other CNS disorders may have a subtle cerebral malfunction, which can be detected by ERPs but not by verbal learning test. Therefore ERPs might be a useful tool to evaluate subtle cognitive dysfunction It is suggested that the factors responsible for genesis of this cerebral malfunction are not influenced by short-term metabolic dysfunction and may be different from those responsible for the DM neuropathy.

To reduce the number of rearing seasons required for preservation of multivoltine silkworms which do not produce diapause eggs, the optimal egg stage, temperature, and period of cold storage were examined using hatchability as an indicator of viability. Multivoltine silkworm starains MR, SPT, and HM were used in the study. 1. The hatchability of multivoltine silkworm eggs (MR and STP) preserved at 5°C for 30 days was 80% for the eggs chilled from 2 days after oviposition but less 5% for those chilled from 7 days after oviposition. 2. When 2 day-old eggs of multivoltine silkworm (HM) were preserved between -2.5°C to 7.5°C for 15 to 60 days, 0°C and 2.5°C showed the hightest hatchability with 91% at 30 days and 61% at 60 days storage, respectively. 3. From these results, it can be concluded that by preserving 2 day -old eggs at 2.5°C for 50 to 60 days, rearing seasons required for preservation of the multivoltine silkworm can be reduced to half per year.
정상성인에서 언어적, 시공간적 기억의 저장과 인출에 관련한 인식유발전위에 관한 연구

It is well known that event-related potentials(ERPs), the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test and Hopkins Verbal Leaning Test(HVLT) are clincal tools in the evaluation of the patients who suffer from disorders of cognition. The present study was designed to get the normal value of N1,N2,P3 latencies of ERPs, of HVLT and of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test, and to investigate the effect of age and education on the ERPs,HVLT and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test, and to evaluate the relationship between ERPs and HVLT and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test. This study of the 51 normal controls who had no neurologic deficits is performed. The studies are consisted of neurologic examinations and Short form Samsung Dementia Questionnaire, ERPs,HVLT and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test, biochemical study. N1,N2,P3 latencies of ERPs are 97.63±10.58㎳,211.75±19.66㎳,398.91±32.11㎳,respectively. the N1,N2,P3 latencies of the subjects were well correlated with age(p<0.05). The scores of immediate free recall, late recall and discrimination index(D.I.)of HVLT are 20.59±5.59,7.54±2.61 9.28±1.95. The scores of immediate recall,late recall and D.I. of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test are 17.33±9.16,17.23±8.79,8.36±2.01.The N1,N2,P3 latencies of ERPs were not correlated with the scores of HVLT and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test, and these larencies were not correlated with subjects education duration either. The scores of HVLT and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure test have positive correlation with age and education duration(p<0.01).

Indeterminate western blot in HIV infection can be due to seroconversion during acute HIV infection, advanced HIV infection or infection with HIV-2. In this report, we describe a patient whose advanced HIV infection was identi. ed by a positive combined antigen/antibody test and detectable viremia, with an inch of being misdiagnosed as acute HIV syndrome. A 23-year-old male was admitted with fever, myalgia, diarrhea and weight loss. He denied previous history of HIV infection, sexual contact and transfusion. Indeterminate western blot result made us misdiagnosis as a seroconversion in acute HIV syndrome. He denied his disease and insisted to delay antiretroviral therapy until positive western blot results. We had question about very low CD4 cell count (22/ uL), and asked HIV/AIDS national registry for his previous registration. He was diagnosed HIV infection via blood donor screening 22 months before admission, but was not informed of the result. finally the patient was con. rmed advanced HIV infection and started antiretroviral therapy.

Thrombolysis administration poses certain safety issues in ischemic stroke patients with cerebrovascular changes that are vulnerable to hemorrhage. Furthermore, the lack of related studies has resulted in an unclear understanding of thrombolysis safety in ischemic stroke patients with intracranial dissection, including those involving the vertebral artery. This study describes a case of a 59-year-old female who developed subarachnoid hemorrhage from clinically unrelated vertebral artery dissection after thrombolysis. Histories of severe headache with posterior fossa involvement in patients receiving thrombolytic therapy may indicate careful assessment for intracranial vertebral artery dissection, even if the clinical picture of the patient suggests another arterial syndrome.
