[Keynote Speeches] Understanding Changes in Stock Properties in a Recycling System
Roland McKinney 한국펄프·종이공학회 1999 한국펄프종이학회 기타 간행물 Vol.- No.-
Recycling systems are usually designed with pulp quality targets based on cleanliness, brightness, or similar property. Achieving other specific fibre properties is rarely a goal of a recycling system, but fibre properties can be modified to suit specific end uses. Recycling line equipment choices impact on fibre properties, but these effects tend to be less well documented than the effects on cleanliness or brightness.<br/> Changes in fibre properties occur throughout a recycling system and if monitored these can be confusing as they are often the resultant of several different effects occurring simultaneously.<br/> In this paper changes in fibre properties are discussed in theoretical terms and then results from pilot plant trials examined. Finally, some observations are given that are <br/> relevant to the design of a recycling system, in terms of deinking efficiency, but also in terms of other fibre attributes required for specific paper grades.
What is a Resilient Society? Toward Integrated Resilient Communities: A View from Germany
Roland Benedikter and Karim Fathi 부산대학교 한국민족문화연구소 2017 Localities Vol.7 No.-
Like most Western societies, contemporary Germany is in the process of deep restructuring through change drivers, such as the migration crisis; the turn to sustainable energy; and new security needs triggered by recent terror attacks, such as the one onto the Berlin Christmas market in December, 2016. While there is a significantly growing challenge to the public management of new multi-cultural and multi-religious ambiences, particularly in urban centers and regional conurbations, climate change will play a role in transforming the agricultural and farming sector, and natural desasters, such as the floodings in Northern Germany in the summer of 2017, may become more frequent. Given all this multi-dimensional and interrelated change, the question is how German communities–with their diverse needs between the agricultural north and the industrial south, and between the so-called "old" federal states in the west and the "new" federal states in the East–may become more resilient. In addition, there is a new discourse in Europe about the overall resilience of nation states given their increasing internal differentiation. The main question is what the decisive factors for increasing resilience can and should be.
Adding Emotion to the Gifted Musical Mind: Towards a Model of Musical Thinking
Roland S. Persson 대한사고개발학회 2010 The International Journal of Creativity & Problem Vol.20 No.2
Much research has explored cognitive functions and the nature of information processing since the cognitive revolution began with the advent of computers. With the establishing of music psychology attention was directed also to the cognition and processing of music. However, the initial reluctance of Science to avoid the study of emotions became a problem especially in studying music as a cultural phenomenon, with the inherent ability to trigger strong affective responses. For future research into music behavior to arrive at a more complete understanding of musical giftedness and what separates general music information processing from gifted music information processing, a heuristic model of gifted musical thinking, including affective behavior, bringing domain constituents together, is much needed. This is therefore the objective of this article, namely to review relevant research and in so doing propose a differentiated model of gifted musical thinking by outlining cognitive function and bringing the most probable constituents of such musical thinking together, drawing from Persson’s (2009) multidimensional model of musical giftedness, which adds the significance of affective responses and emotive skills to the construct of musical giftedness.

This paper analyzes how U.S. foreign policy, based on symmetry or asymmetry, drives international relations, and can lead to positive or negative state-to-state relations. The paper uses the case of U.S. foreign policy towards North Korea to discuss the importance of position and power when dealing with societies and nations. The paper discloses that U.S. foreign policy approach towards North Korea has not significantly evolved over the past 60 years regardless of administration and that the current paradigm of dealing with complex state-to-state issues only works to sustain negative relations. The paper further finds that the continued negative relations and deep-rooted and protracted conflict between the United States and North Korea is intimately connected to the way in which the United States handles state-to-state relationships. On the basis of these observations, the paper recommends alternative multi-dimensional foreign policy approaches based on conflict analysis and resolution methods and tools needed to successfully transform the relationship and build sustainable peace with North Korea and in the East Asia Region.
