Zeolite is a porous highly interactive matrix. Zeolitic cations help to generate triplets from molecules that possess poor intersystem crossing efficiency. Certain zeolites act as electron acceptors and thus can spontaneously generate radical cations. Zeolites also act as proton donors and thus yield carbocations without any additional reagents. These reactive species, radical cations and carbocations, have long lifetime within a zeolite and thus lend themselves to be handled as ‘regular’ chemicals. Internal structure of zeolites is studded with cations, the counter-ions of the anionic framework. The internal constrained structure and the cations serve as handles for chemists to control the behavior of guest molecules included within zeolites.

A new design approach for quantitative feedback synthesis (QFT) to the disturbance rejection problem in an uncertain multi-input multi-output (MIMO) linear time-invariant system is proposed. The proposed method iscentered on converting the problem on uncertain system into a nominal system and the uncertainties are transferred as a output disturbances whose range is known. In particular, we derive the controller bounds for each of the equivalent nominal single-input single-output (SISO) problems. The proposed non-sequential approach is attractive as it brings simplicity and less conservative than an existing independent SISO method. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated via challenging MIMO systems with both parametric and non-parametric uncertainty. The proposed solution is less conservative than the existing design which leads to reduced feedback cost.
AMP-Activated Protein Kinase (AMPK) and Energy-Sensing in the Brain

5’-adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an evolutionarily conserved cellular and organismal energy integrator that responds to numerous stimuli with the overall intention to facilitate energy conservation and enhance energy balance while also aff ecting cellular survival and behaviors. AMPK has been appreciated for many years to function in peripheral organs that contribute to the generation or disposition of cellular energy, while its role in the brain has been only recently elucidated. While acknowledged to respond to organismal energy balance, we now recognize that energy balance within neurons also aff ects the brain’s response to these peripheral signals. In this review, we discuss AMPK’s regulation and its ever-expanding role as a neuronal energy integrator at both the cellular and systems levels.

Utilization, reduction and disposal of the pulp and paper industry waste (Hypo Sludge) are crucial from an environmental perspective. Hypo sludge, when disposed of as landfill, contributes to the groundwater contamination caused by the leachates. Hence, the utilization of hypo sludge from the paper industry in the construction applications promotes the development of sustainable concrete; reduces landfills, and creates an environment free from harmful wastes. In the present context, this research focused on the partial replacement of cement by hypo sludge. It was observed that even though the addition of 10% of hypo sludge was sufficient to produce sustainable concrete, there was a negative influence on the durability as more water absorption was observed due to the presence of high cellulose fibre content. Hence styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) latex and basalt fibres were added to improve its durability and post cracking behaviour respectively. A significant improvement in the strength and durability was observed when 10% of hypo sludge as a cement replacement is used in combination with 0.25% of basalt fibres and 10% of SBR latex when compared with the conventional concrete. The micro structural studies revealed that SBR latex produced better consistency in the interaction among the phases of concrete.
Analysis of the Foam Generated Using Surfactant Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

The performance evaluation of a sodium lauryl sulfate to qualify as a foaming agent is presented in this paper. When new surfactants are used a systematic study of production parameters on the foam characteristics needs to be undertaken unlike proprietary foaming agents and foam generator for which manufacturer has predefined the parameters. The relative influence of the foam parameters and optimization of factors were carried out through a systematic experiment design. The foam production parameters namely foam generation pressure and dilution ratio of foaming agents are observed to have significant effect on all foam characteristics with the exception of foam output rate on which only foam generation pressure has influence. The foam with good initial foam density need not necessarily be stable foam. The optimum levels of foam production parameters are determined for the surfactant Sodium lauryl sulfate which can be used to produce stable foam for foam concrete production.
Bean Gall Weevil and Blister Beetle as New Pests on Red Kidney Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in India

Red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) an important cash crop is attacked by eight species of insect pests which cause considerable damage. They included thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis; aphids, Aphis craccivora; whitefly, Bemisia tobaci; hairy caterpillar, Spilosoma obliqua; stemfly, Ophiomyia phaseoli; pulse beetle Callosobruchus chinensis; bean gall weevil Alcidodes signatus and blister beetle Cyaneolylta coerculea. Of all these pests, bean gall weevil Alcidodes signatus and blister beetle, Cyaneolylta coerculea were the serious pests and recorded for the first from the crop and the country.

The superfamily of RNA binding proteins (RBPs) is vastly expanded in plants compared to other eukaryotes. A sub-family of RBPs that contain three RNA recognition motifs (RRMs) from the Arabidopsis (24), rice (19) and poplar (37) genomes was analyzed in this study. Phylogenetic analysis with full-length protein sequences of 80 RBPs identified nine clades. The largest clade, comprising 23 members, showed high homology to human RBPs involved in oxidative signaling. Digital northern analysis revealed that Arabidopsis RBPs are transcriptionally responsive to biotic, abiotic and hormonal treatments. Northern blot analysis of eight Arabidopsis RBPs belonging to the tobacco RBP45/47 family showed that these genes respond to ozone stress. AtRBP45b, which shows closest homology to the yeast oxidative stress regulatory protein, CSX1, was expressed in multiple tissues. Two novel splice variant forms of AtRBP45b were identified by 3’RACE analysis. Based on RT-PCR, splice variant AtRBP45b-SV1 was observed only in response to mechanical wounding caused by pathogen or chemical infiltrations and was not detecta-ble in response to salt or temperature stress. Electropho-retic mobility shift assay demonstrated that recombinant full-length and splice variant forms of AtRBP45b bound synthetic RNA. Identifying in vivo RNA targets of AtRBP45b will aid in determining the precise functional role of these proteins during oxidative signaling.
