Aim(s): This study aims to identify the frailty trajectory for 12 years, subgroups of the frailty trajectory, and the predictors that differentiate these subgroups among community-dwelling adults aged 45 years or older. Method(s): We used the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing data of all waves from the 1st (2006) to the 7th survey (2018). The total number of participants in 2006 was 10,254, of which 9,775 who participated in the second or more survey were included as final participants in this study. Frailty was measured by the Frailty instrument consisted of three items assessing the weakness of grip strength, exhaustion, and social isolation. Latent growth curve modeling and Latent Class Growth Modeling were performed to identify the frailty trajectory and latent classes of trajectory from 2006 to 2018. Additionally, multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to identify predictors that differentiate these latent classes. Result(s): The frailty trajectories of participants were statistically significant with a mean initial intercept of 0.564 and a mean-variance of 0.326. The average of the slope for 12 years was 0.018 and the mean-variance of the slope was significant at 0.008. We found 5 latent classes in frailty trajectories using LCGM; improving from moderate frailty, maintaining robust, maintaining severe frailty, worsening from moderate frailty, and worsening from mild frailty group. In multinomial logistic regression analysis, age, education level, marital status, residential area, smoking, drinking, regular exercise, chronic disease, cognitive function, and social participation were the significant predictors that differentiated each class. Conclusion(s): There were various frailty trajectories including improvement group among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults. In order to maintain a robust state, interventions focusing on modifiable factors such as encouraging non-smoking and regular exercise, preventing chronic disease, enhancing cognitive function and social contact are needed.

The simulations on dynamic stability of Sports Utility Vehicles using Carsim/Vehsim software are presented on this paper with the aim of studying the rollover process occurring in such vehicles. Carsim/Vehsim is an integrated simulation package that has been developed for chassis dynamics controls and integration. The simulation procedure makes use of dynamic testing maneuvers (Fishhook tests, J-Turn test and Double Lane Change test) recommended by NHTSA to evaluate the antirollover propensities of SUVs on road. The simulation results emphasize the need for better understanding of SUV rollover performance and characteristics that are very essential in enhancing vehicle design. Furthermore, the simulation dramatically shows less development time and cost reduction compared to field testing. This paper, in general, investigates the dynamic rollover characteristics of 4 SUVs in 2 different road conditions.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the phenolic acid contents and compositions, and possibility of functional cosmetic ingredients of Hibiscus syriacus bark extracts with hot water and 70% ethanol solution. The results were as follows: Total polyphenol and total flavonoid content, hot water extract was grater than 70% ethanol extract. Regarding the composition of polyphenol compound, 8 different types of phenolic acids and 4 different types of flavonoids were found in hot-water and 70% ethanol extracts. In terms of DPPH radical scavenging activity, water extract was about 2 times grater than 70% ethanol extract. Nitrite-scavenging activity against hot water extract was 52.30 ± 0.42% and for the 70% ethanol extract was 46.00 ± 0.52% of stem bark in pH 1.2, respectively. In the tyrosinase inhibition activity of IC50, hot water extract was about 1.6 times grater than 70% ethanol extract. Bacterium cell growth was inhibited the proportional to the concentration for both the hot water and 70% ethanol extracts of bark for the Gram-negative E. coli KCCM 11234 bacterium. Cytotoxicity for SK-MEL-2 cell line was not appeared for hot water, and appeared about 16% in the 100 μg for 70% ethanol extract.

This study analyzed pericarp of Akebia quinata fruit and hot water extract of seeds and 80% methanol extract to verify the effectiveness of utilizing functional cosmetic materials for skin care. 17 components of free amino acids were identified in pericarp and seeds. Both pericarp and seeds had the highest lysine content in hot water extracts and asparagine in 80% methanol extracts. Protein-free amino acid derivatives were identified in pericarp and seeds, each with 5 components. In the hot water extract, phosphoserine was the highest in pericarp and citrulline was the highest in seeds. In 80% methanol extract, carnosine was the most common in pericarp and citrulline was the highest in seeds. Analysis of the composition of free sugar identified frutose and glucose in pericarp and sucrose and maltose in seeds. As a result, when pericarp and seeds of Akebia quinata fruit are extracted with hot water and 80% methanol, free sugar and free amino acid derivatives are present, which is expected to be valuable as functional foods and nutritional cosmetics ingredients for skin beauty.
