The DcuS-R two-component system of Escherichia coli senses $C_{4}-dicarboxylates$ of the medium and regulates expression of the genes related to utilization of them. It is known that phospho-DcuR induces expression of genes such as the dcuB-fumB operon, the frdABCD operon, and the dctA gene. We analyzed promoters of the dcuS-R operon to elucidate the transcriptional regulation system. We found a novel internal promoter within the dcuS gene that is regulated by the transcriptional regulator, CRP-cAMP, in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions.

TRIBO-COATING FOR FRICTION CONTROL IN ULTRA HIGH VACUUM

Effectiveness of in-situ friction assisted deposition technique named "tribo-coating" as practical solid lubrication method was clearly shown from the view point of friction coefficient. That is to say, under practical friction conditions of contact pressure and sliding velocity for space machine, effective value of friction coefficient less than 0.15 could be obtained by tribo-coating of indium. In addition, it was clear that the tribo-coating of indium could give a third to one fifth times smaller friction coefficient than that of conventional soft metal coating as solid lubricant. Furthermore, friction coefficient could be controlled to keep low by in-situ tribo-coating at stable friction condition could decrease friction coefficient comparison with that of the first tribo-coating. The minimum friction coefficient of 0.018 was observed by using second-tribo-coating of indium in the friction couple of silicon nitride against stainless steel.
