      • A study of nerve agent model organophosphonate binding with manganese-A<sub>2</sub>B-corrole and -A<sub>2</sub>B<sub>2</sub>-porphyrin systems

        Herein the synthesis and binding studies of novel trans-A<SUB>2</SUB>B-corrole and trans-A<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>2</SUB>-porphyrin derivatives are presented in comparing manganese(III)-organophosphonate (OP) binding (e.g., M<SUP>n+</SUP>←O?PR(OR)<SUB>2</SUB>) capabilities. H<SUB>3</SUB>(PFP-VC) [PFP-VC=5,15-di(pentafluorophenyl)-10-(3-vinylphenyl)corrolate] was synthesized by way of literature procedures and was characterized by a variety of 2-D NMR spectroscopic techniques and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. These compounds represent the first example of 3-vinyl-phenyl-containing meso-substituted corroles or porphyrins. Mn(PFP-VC) (3) was treated separately with (CH<SUB>3</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>P?O(C<SUB>3</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>NMe<SUB>2</SUB>), (C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>9</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>P?O(Me), (C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>P?O(CH<SUB>2</SUB>COCH<SUB>3</SUB>), (CH<SUB>3</SUB>CH<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>P?O(Me), to give 1:1 adducts, as determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy (Job Plot), giving a red shift; Ph<SUB>3</SUB>P?O, was also found to bind, but very weakly. The trans-A<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>2</SUB>-porphyrin analogue Mn(PFP-VP) (4) was also prepared by way of a literature procedure; related binding studies gave 1:1 organophosphonate-Mn(PFP-VP) adducts (Job Plot). A clean blue shift occurred for the Mn-porphyrins at higher organophosphonate loadings (K<SUB>a</SUB> values: 6.7 (0.9)-11.9 (0.4)M<SUP>-1</SUP>). DFT geometry optimizations of O?P(OMe)<SUB>2</SUB>Me binding and formal Mn-O or P-O cleavage products in the unsubstituted neutral Mn-corrolato and -porphyrinato systems with a range of metal-based spin states revealed greatest stability in formal phosphoryl oxygen binding (energies: 11-13kcal/mol) for the Mn-corrole (singlet); the Mn-porphyrin (sextet) was also quite stable.

        농은(農隱) 김문주(金汶株)의 삶과 문학에 대한 소고

        본고는 農隱 金汶株(1859~1935)의 삶과 문학에 대해 살펴보았다. 김문주는 구한말 제주문인으로, 무과에 합격하여 40대까지 여러 관직을 거쳤다. 하지만 시대가 어지러워지면서 관직을 버리고 은둔의 삶을 선택하였다. 그는 陶淵明을 처신의 기준으로 삼았다. 그의 교유관계는 화갑시에 차운한 인물을 중심으로 정리하였다. 교유관계의 이면에 浮海 安秉宅과의 밀접한 관계를 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 간접적으로 일본에 대해 비판적이었던 그의 마음을 읽을 수 있었다. 이런 그의 인식은 勉庵 崔益鉉ㆍ忠武公 李舜臣등을 제재로 한 작품에서 보다 분명하게 표현되었다. 하지만 김문주는 많은 나이로 인해 실제 항일투쟁을 옮길 수 없었다. 김문주의 의식과 암담한 현실은 분명히 달랐기 때문이다. 실질적인 행동은 다음세대에서 이루어 졌다. 아들인 金明植ㆍ金瀅植, 손자인 金允煥 등은 여러 방식으로 항일의지를 실천했다. 하지만 일제는 이들을 철저히 탄압했고, 결국 좌절되고 말았다. 김문주는 이 지점에서 무력한 자아에 대해 비통한 감정을 토로하였다. 이것은 어쩌면 당대 지식인의 무력감을 상징적으로 보여주는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 제주풍광의 기술 역시 주목할 만한 사항이었다. 김문주는 기존에 있던 『瀛州十景』을 중심으로 재창작하였다. 하지만 이를 그대로 따른 것은 아니었다. 그는 예전의 영주십경을 기준으로 보다 자유롭게 제주풍광을 해석하였다. 그 중에서 「漢拏山」·「龍淵夜帆」 등에 대해서는 특별한 의미를 담고 창작하였다. 김문주의 이런 창작방식은 당시에 제주풍광에 대한 새로운 관점을 제시했다는 점에서 그 의미를 찾을 수 있을 것이다. This paper studied the life and works of Nong Eun Kim Mun-Joo (here after Kim). Kim went through several governmental posts after he passed the military service exam. However, as the time became troubled, he gave up his governmental post and decided to lead the life a recluse. Kim referred Doh Yeun-Myoung for making such decisions. His companionship was organized through the figures recited in poems. It was identified that Kim had a close relationship with Boohae Ahn Byung-Taek, which indicates his fighting spirit against Japan’s colonial power. Such spirit was clearly described in the works that discussed Myun Ahm Choi Ik-Hyun, Admiral Yee Sun-Shin However, Kim could not act himself against Japan’s power as he became already older. Kim’s fighting spirit could not come along with those days in dark, hopeless situations. Real actions were made by his offspring. His two sons Myung-Shik and Hyung-Shik and his grandson Yun-Whan practiced in diverse ways the fighting spirit against Japan. However, Japan’s colonial power persecuted them severely and Kim’s sons and grandson could not help but giving the anti-Japan movement. Kim expressed his bitter emotional pains about his powerless self. This might represent symbolically the powerlessness of intellectuals at those days. It is also worthwhile to pay attention to his descriptions of Jeju Island’s landscape. Kim recreated Jeju’s landscape by focusing up Youngjushipgyung (The Ten Great Landscapes of Jeju). However, he did not follow simply the previous styes. He interpreted on his own styles with more freedom the landscapes of Jeju. Of particular, he created Halla Mt and Yongyeonyabum (also known as youngyeon pedestrian overpass) by giving special meanings to them. Kim creation styles with full of free spirit can be said meaningful in that they suggest new perspectives on Jeju’s landscape at those days.

        제주유배문학의 연속성에 대한 시론(試論) -김진귀-김춘택-임징하를 중심으로-

        본고는 제주유배문학의 연속성에 대해 살펴보았다. 본고의 관심사항은 제주유배라는 형벌아래 문학양상이 어떻게 이어지고 있는가를 고민한 것이다. 본 연구는 “만구와 김진귀-북헌 김춘택-서재 임징하”를 중심으로 진행하였다. 북헌은 만구와의 아들이고, 서재는 만구와의 사위였다. 이들은 시기를 달리하면서 제주유배를 경험하였을 뿐만 아니라 盤龍硯이라는 벼루로 그 마음을 전하고 있었다. 그러므로 이들의 제주유배문학을 연속적으로 이해할 수 있다고 보았다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 먼저 盤龍硯이 전해지는 과정에서 이들의 심적 공감대를 살폈고, 이어서 각 작가의 제주유배시문을 통해 유배문학의 연속성을 점검하였다. 이들의 문학적 연결성은 형식적인 측면을 중심으로 고민해보았다. 김진귀 제주유배문학의 특징은 청음 김상헌의 『남사록』에 맞춰 화운한 작품이 많다는 점이다. 이는 청음이 유배인은 아니었지만 같은 노론계열의 인물이었고, 『남사록』이 당시로서는 제주도에 대한 가장 정확한 정보를 담고 있기 때문이었다. 김춘택의 경우는 아버지 김진귀의 유배공간과 제주지식인들을 계속적으로 만나면서, 유배지에서 자신의 문학세계를 펼쳐 나갔다. 김춘택의 제주유배문학은 김진귀 제주유배 때의 공간, 인물, 감정 등을 그대로 이어나갔다. 김춘택이 이럴 수 있었던 것은 김진귀의 제주유배 시기에 제주도에 왔던 경험 등이 있었기 때문이었다. 임징하는 앞선 두 인물에 비해 짧은 제주유배생활을 하였다. 임징하의 작품에서는 특히 김춘택의 제주유배시기 작품에 대해 화운한 점이 주목된다. 임징하는 김춘택에게서 반룡연을 전해 받은 만큼, 제주유배에서 김춘택의 흔적에 대해서 매우 관심 있었다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이 세 인물의 문학적 성격을 통해, 제한적이지만 제주유배문학이 내면의 감정으로 서로 이어지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본고에서 다룬 문학의 연속성의 문제는 학계에서 심도있게 연구가 진행된 분야가 아니다. 이와 관련된 연구가 진행되어 보다 정확한 문학좌표가 설정되기를 기대하는 바이다. This study examines the continuity in the exile literature of Jeju. A particular attention is made to the inquiry of how the lineage of literature descends under the hardship of exile to Jeju. For the inquiry, this study focuses upon the literature lineage that descends from Manguwa Kim Jin-Gwi to Seojae Im Zhing-Ha through Bukheon Kim Chun-Taek. Bukheon is the son of Manguwa and Seojae is the son-in-law of Manguwa. All of them were exiled to Jeju for different periods and they left their exiled experiences in writings using the identical stone ink of banyongyeon. Therefore, I consider their exiled experiences delivered through bangyongyeon are the places to understand well the continuity in the exile literature of Jeju. This paper first looks into the mentally experienced aspect of the three authors through the process of bangyongyeon to be delivered to them; and further into the continuity in the exile literature of Jeju by examining the poetry and proses that express the experiences of exiles to Jeju made by each of the three authors. For the connectivity in their writings, a formal style in their writings is examined. Kim Jin-Gwi composed several verses that respond to the words of Namsarok by Cheongeum Kim Sang-Heon. Cheongeum was never exiled to Jeju but he was the person belonging to the political group of Noron like Kim Jin-Gwi. Also, Namsarok consisted of the most accurate information of Jeju at those times. Kim Chun-Taek extended his literary world by making continuous interactions with Jeju intellectuals in his exiled land of Jeju to which his father Kim Jin-Gwi was also sent as an exile. The exile literature of Jeju made by Kim Chun-Taek succeeded his father Kim Jin-Gwi`s expressions for spaces, figures, and emotions. Kim Chun-Taek was able to do this because he visited Jeju during the time his father Manguwa Kim Jin-Gwi spent exile years in Jeju. Im Zhing-Ha spent relatively shorter periods of exiles compared to the previous two figures. Of particular, Im Zhing-Ha made extensive numbers of verses in response to the works of Kim Chun-Taek, these being done during Kim`s exile to Jeju. Im Zhing-Ha received bangyongyeon from Kim Chun-Taek so that he is considered to have a great interest in the traces of Bukheon Kim Chun-Taek during his exile to Jeju. The examination of the literary characters of the three authors enables us to confirm that the exile literature of Jeju is linked to each other through the internal emotions. The continuity in literature that this paper examines has not been well shed upon in this research field. Further studies upon this research topic is expected to pave well to establish the proper orientation for the exile literature of Jeju.

        Combustion properties of gaseous CH<sub>4</sub>/O<sub>2</sub> coaxial jet flames in a single-element combustor

        Fundamental combustion properties of gaseous methane (CH<SUB>4</SUB>)/oxygen (O<SUB>2</SUB>) coaxial jet flames in a single-element combustor are experimentally evaluated as a preliminary step for subsequent studies of injection at very low temperature or using liquid O<SUB>2</SUB> for CH<SUB>4</SUB>/O<SUB>2</SUB> bipropellants, recently appearing to be the oncoming liquid bipropellant. A combustion chamber with quartz windows, a single shear coaxial injector and an exhaust nozzle on the downstream of the chamber is considered for the present study. Focusing on the measurements of the ignition and combustion stability limits of the coaxial jet flames in the chamber, flame visualization is also conducted by OH<SUP>*</SUP> chemiluminescence, schlieren imaging and direct imaging. Results show the ignition limits restricted than the combustion stability limits. Flame behaviors are largely classified into two, the stably attached flame and the oscillating, liftoff (near-blowout) flame. Due to cooling effects on the wall of the chamber, stably liftoff flame is not observed. The stability of the flame is greatest at fuel-rich condition (based on the injected amounts of CH<SUB>4</SUB> and O<SUB>2</SUB>). From the flame visualization flame thickness is found to be smaller than the injector lip thickness and insensitive to injection conditions. The laminar-flow behavior near the injector exit due to the strong burning of pure O<SUB>2</SUB> is observed even for high Reynolds numbers (Re). The flame visualization also exhibits the recirculating O<SUB>2</SUB> that enhances burning in the combustor through the reaction with the outer fuel jet. The results of ignition limits, combustion stability limits and flame visualization can be used as a database for researches of modeling the gaseous CH<SUB>4</SUB>/O<SUB>2</SUB> jet flames in the combustion chamber.

        Recently mobile communication fields need piezoelectric ceramic resonators and filters as possible as small. The length-extensional vibration mode of a rectangular piezoelectric ceramic plate has the advantage of the small size. but the mode has not been studied sufficiently because it was not used extensively until now. In this paper. PZT + x[wt%] Cr₂O₃ ceramics with rhombohedral phase were fabricated. And temperature stability for the mode of the ceramic specimen was investigated. Contrary to our expectations. addition of the stabilizer. Cr₂O₃did not promote the temperature stability for the mode in the PZT ceramic specimen with rhombohedral phase.

        Suicide cancer gene therapy using pore-forming toxin, streptolysin O.

        <P>We cloned the streptolysin O gene from the Streptococcus pyogenes genome and tested the possibility of using it as an anticancer reagent. Transient transfection of the streptolysin O gene efficiently killed 293T cells after 12 hours of transfection as determined by lactate dehydrogenase release and propidium iodide uptake. No caspase activity was observed and necrosis was prominent during streptolysin O-induced cell death. Biochemical analysis of streptolysin O protein revealed that the deletion of only 5 amino acids from the COOH-terminal region of streptolysin O, which is essential for cholesterol binding activity, abolished its cell-killing activity, whereas the NH2-terminal region was more resilient, i.e., up to 115 amino acids could be deleted without changing its cell-killing activity. We generated a streptolysin O-expressing adenovirus and injected it into human cervical cancer cell-derived tumors grown in a nude mouse model. Twenty-one days postinjection, the average size of tumors in the streptolysin O adenovirus-injected group was 29.3% of that of the control PBS-treated group. Our results show that the genes of pore-forming toxins, like streptolysin O protein, have the potential to establish a novel class of suicide gene therapeutic reagents.</P>

      • Flexible binder-free graphene paper cathodes for high-performance Li-O<sub>2</sub> batteries

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, free-standing porous graphene papers for high-capacity and reversible Li-O<SUB>2</SUB> battery cathodes are investigated. The graphene paper-like films were fabricated by the assembling of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) with the aid of graphene oxides (GOs) as a stabilizer, using a vacuum-assisted filtration method. By using GOs as a stabilizer, the GNP/GO films were fabricated with a paper-like form and they exhibited a highly wrinkled and disordered morphology. Moreover, the use of GNPs as a basic material eliminated the need for a post-annealing to recover the intrinsic electrical conductivity of graphene sheets. Subsequently, the GNP/GO paper could be directly used as a Li-O<SUB>2</SUB> battery cathode without any conducting additives and binders. The GNP/GO paper electrode showed a much higher discharge capacity in comparison to the reduced-GO paper and commercially available carbon papers. We also found that toroidal Li<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> mainly nucleated and grew on discharge, and decomposed on charge with a relatively high O<SUB>2</SUB> evolution/consumption efficiency of 87%. However, a large number of Li<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> particles grew inside the GNP/GO paper electrode, resulting in severe volume expansion of the electrode. This volume expansion could be the primary reason for the capacity fading on cycling.</P>

        An angular method of identifying diffractive excitation (DE) events for interactions of hadron beams in nuclear emulsion (Kim C. O. et al. 1980) in nuclear emulsion. The 'apparent' MFP's of DE process are 1.00±0.12, 2.4^+1.6_-0.7, and 2.2±0.4m, respectively, at 200, 60, and 14.6 A GeV, which corresponds to 20~10% of the MFP's of total inelastic interactions. Distinctive features of diffractively excited nuclei, which may explain the Centauro events, are discussed.

        Metalorganic chemical vapor deposition via pyrolysis at low temperature of Al₂O₃from Al(O-C₃H?)₃as well as other possible insulators from metalorganic sources will be investigated with the goal of producing high quality Al₂O₃/Si and Al₂O₃/InP interfaces. Room temperature capacitance-voltage measurements dependent on several frequencies were used to characterize the electrical properties of the structures after metal gate electrodes have been deposited.

      • Magnetoelectric Coupling of CuFe2O4/Pt/Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 Multilayer Thin Films

        <P>CuFe2O4/Pt/Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O-3 (PZT) multilayer thin films were grown on (111)-oriented Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si < 100 > substrate. PZT layer was fabricated by the sol-gel method. Afterwards, Pt layer was deposited by ion beam sputtering method. Finally, CuFe2O4 layer were deposited using pulsed laser deposition method (PLD). The film structure is tri-layered type, where the bottom PZT layer covered the whole substrate, while Pt and CuFe2O4 layers were deposited through circular shadow masks to measure ferroelectric and magnetoelectric properties. Film microstructure was observed using XRD and FE-SEM. Magnetoelectric coefficients were calculated by measured magnetoelectric voltages using magnetoelectric measurement system.</P>
