The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of children's sex-role identity on learned helplessness. The 451 subjects were selected randomly from the fifth and sixth grade of elementary schools in the city of Taegu. The instruments of measurement were KSRI(Korean Sex Role Inventory) and Helplessness Scale. The data was analyzed by factor analysis, Cronbach's a , MANOVA, ANOVA, and Sheff test. The results were as follows: (1) The sex-role identity types of subjects was that the rate of masculinity identity marked the highest ranking in boys, that the rate of androgyny identity marked the highest ranking in girls. (2) In all the factors of learned helplessness, the femininity identity group showed the highest degree of helplessness, masculinity identity group exhibited the lowest degree of helplessness.

Background: The mechanism and medical treatment target for degenerative aortic valve disease, including aortic stenosis, is not well studied. In this study, we investigated the effect of clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) on the development of aortic valve sclerosis (AVS), a calcified aortic valve without significant stenosis. Methods: Participants with AVS (valves ≥2 mm thick, high echogenicity, and a peak transaortic velocity of <2.5 m/sec) and an age- and sex-matched control group were enrolled. Twenty-four CHIP genes with common variants in cardiovascular disease were used to generate a next-generation sequencing panel. The primary endpoint was the CHIP detection rate between the AVS and control groups. Inverse-probability treatment weighting (IPTW) analysis was performed to adjust for differences in baseline characteristics. Results: From April 2020 to April 2022, 187 participants (125 with AVS and 62 controls) were enrolled; the mean age was 72.6±8.5 yrs, and 54.5% were male. An average of 1.3 CHIP variants was observed. CHIP detection, defined by a variant allele frequency (VAF) of ≥0.5%, was similar between the groups. However, the AVS group had larger CHIP clones: 49 (39.2%) participants had a VAF of ≥1% (vs. 13 [21.0%] in the control group; P=0.020), and 25 (20.0%) had a VAF of ≥2% (vs. 4 [6.5%]; P=0.028). AVS is independently associated with a VAF of ≥1% (adjusted odds ratio: 2.44, 95% confidence interval: 1.11–5.36; P=0.027). This trend was concordant and clearer in the IPTW cohort. Conclusions: Participants with AVS more commonly had larger CHIP clones than age- and sex-matched controls. Further studies are warranted to identify causality between AVS and CHIP.

Background/AimsGastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common chronic gastrointestinal disorder that typically requires long-term maintenance therapy. However, little is known about patient preferences and satisfaction and real-world prescription patterns regarding maintenance therapy for GERD. MethodsThis observational, cross-sectional, multicenter study involved patients from 18 referral hospitals in Korea. We surveyed patients who had been prescribed proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for GERD for at least 90 days with a minimum follow-up duration of 1 year. The main outcome was overall patient satisfaction with different maintenance therapy modalities. ResultsA total of 197 patients were enrolled. Overall patient satisfaction, patient preferences, and GERD health-related quality of life scores did not significantly differ among the maintenance therapy modality groups. However, the on-demand therapy group experienced a significantly longer disease duration than the continuous therapy group. The continuous therapy group demonstrated a lower level of awareness of potential adverse effects associated with PPIs than the on-demand therapy group but received higher doses of PPIs than the on-demand therapy group. The prescribed doses of PPIs also varied based on the phenotype of GERD, with higher doses prescribed for non-erosive reflux disease than erosive reflux disease. ConclusionAlthough overall patient satisfaction did not significantly differ among the different PPI maintenance therapy modality groups, awareness of potential adverse effects was significantly different between the on-demand and continuous therapy groups.

The marine transportation business will increase along with safe and economical shipping services. To make an effective electric propulsion system, we need to use an advanced software like a LabVIEW because the LabVIEW can contain all types of electric signals perfectly. Particularly, we designed a flexible electric propulsion system to protect the safe shipping service. In this paper, We propose a flexible control and measurement of electric propulsion system using LabVIEW.
