Contextual Influences on Women's Identities and Leadership Styles
NAH, YoonKyeong Ewha Womans University Press 2003 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.9 No.4
This article is part of a study on Korean women leaders' learning processes. It describes and analyzes the self-identification processes and leadership styles of women leaders in male-dominated professions. These women's ways of identifying themselves and of leading others challenge the existing mode of women's identities and leadership styles as being relation-conscious. This study therefore proposes the view that there may be other leadership styles adopted by women leaders based on their varied contexts and life experiences.
The fibrogenic process and the unleashing of acute-on-chronic liver failure
Guillermo Nahúm López-Sánchez,Mayra Dóminguez-Pérez,Misael Uribe,Natalia Nuño-Lámbarri 대한간학회 2020 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.26 No.1
Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a life-threatening condition characterized by a rapid deterioration of previously well-compensated chronic liver diseases. One of the main obstacles in ACLF is the lack of knowledge of the pathogenesis and specific broad-spectrum treatments. An excessive systemic inflammatory response has been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of ACLF; this hypothesis involves stellate cells, which are implicated in many liver homeostatic functions that include vitamin A storage, regulation of sinusoidal blood flow, local inflammation, maintenance of the hepatocyte phenotype and extracellular matrix remodeling. However, when there is damage to the liver, these cells are the main target of the inflammatory stimulus, as a result, the secretion of the extracellular matrix is altered. Activated hepatic stellate cells raise the survival of neutrophils by the stimulation of granulocytes colonies and macrophages, which exacerbates liver inflammation and promotes damage to hepatocytes. Elevation of pathogen-associated molecular patterns is related to liver damage by different pathophysiological mechanisms of decompensation, showing ballooning degeneration and cell death with a predominance of cholestatic infection. Moreover, patients with ACLF present a marked elevation of C-reactive protein together with an elevation of the leukocyte count. Chronic liver disease is a complex pathological state with a heterogeneous pathophysiology in which genetic factors of the host and external triggers interact and culminate in hepatic insufficiency. The better understanding of such interactions should lead to a better comprehension of the disease and to the discovery of new treatment targets that will make acute decompensations preventable and even decrease mortality.
SH-SY5Y 신경아 종야 세포의 분화 과정에서 : 세포 증식의 조절에 관한 연구
권혁만,신나영 단국대학교 1998 論文集 Vol.32 No.-
Staurosporine or retinoic acid (RA)/brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) induce the differentiation of SH-SY5Y cell, a human neural crest-derived tumor, in aspects of neurite outgrowth and the synthesis of neuron markers such as growth-associated protein 43 and neuropeptide Y. In this study, we found that SH-SY5Y cells responded differently to these treatments in cell proliferation. With RA and BDNF, the cell cycle progress of SH-SY5Y cells was arrested with a concomitant induction of C아 inhibitors such as p21 and p27. On the other hand, the staurosporine-induced differentiation did not suppress the proliferation of SH-SY5Y cells, and the level of p21 and p27 proteins did not change. These result suggest that the differentiation and the cell cycle arrest of SH-SY5Y cells may occur independently and the accumulation of p21 and p27 proteins is likely to be correlated with the cell cycle arrest.
Effectiveness of Invisalign?? aligners in the treatment of severe gingival recession: A case report

In this report, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the Invisalign?? system in the treatment of severe gingival recession and bone dehiscence through torque, translation, and intrusion movements in a young woman. Cone-beam computed tomography was used to assess bone parameters and check the teeth during treatment. The root of the mandibular right central incisor, which was buccally positioned and exhibited bone dehiscence of 9.4 mm, was moved toward the center of the alveolar process by using the Invisalign?? system and SmartForce?? features. The patient was monitored by a periodontist throughout the orthodontic treatment period. Her gingival recession reduced, while the bone dehiscence reduced from 9.40 mm to 3.14 mm. Thus, movement of the root into the alveolus promoted bone neoformation and treated the gingival recession. The findings from this case suggest that orthodontic treatment using the Invisalign??system, along with periodontal monitoring, can aid in the treatment of gingival recession and alveolar defects.[Korean J Orthod 2021;51(4):293-300]
Web Service Workflows for Distributed Visual Media Retrieval Framework
Nah, Yun-Mook,Lee, Bog-Ju,Kim, Jung-Sun,Kwon, O-Byoung,Suh, Bo-Won,Ahn, Chul-Bum,Shin, Dong-Hoon Korea Multimedia Society 2007 멀티미디어학회논문지 Vol.10 No.6
The need for content-based retrieval from visual media, such as image and video data, is ever increasing rapidly in many applications, such as electronic art museums, internet shopping malls, internet search engines, and medical information systems. In our previous research, we proposed an architecture, called the HERMES, which is a Web Service-enabled visual media retrieval framework. In this paper, we propose the Web Service workflows that are employed in the HERMES. We describe how we designed the workflows for service registration and query processing in the framework. We especially explain how metadata and ontology can be utilized to realize more intelligent content-based retrieval on visual media data.
The ability of panoramic radiography in assessing maxillary sinus inflammatory diseases
Nah, Kyung-Soo 대한구강악안면방사선학회 2008 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.38 No.4
Purpose : To evaluate the relative diagnostic accuracy of panoramic radiography and Water’s projection in maxillary sinus inflammatory diseases by comparing the radiodensities of the images with those of CT. Materials and Methods : Panoramic radiographs, Waters’ projection, and CT images from 55 subjects (110 sinuses) were included in this retrospective study. The radiodensity of each maxillary sinus in panoramic radiography was recorded separately as upper and lower divided horizontally by hard palate. In Waters’ projection, the overall sinus radiodensity was recorded. The CT images were considered as gold standard. Results : In panoramic radiography, 83 sinuses had same upper and lower radiodensity and 72 of these were consistent with those of CT, 26 sinuses had different upper and lower radiodensity and 15 of these, upper radiodensity was consistent with CT, the remaining 11, lower radiodensity was consistent with CT. One sinus had upper radiolucency with lower radiopacity and both were consistent with those of CT. Altogether 73 (66.4%) among 110 sinuses in panoramic radiography showed full agreement with CT, 26 (23.6%) showed partial agreement with CT. 9 sinuses had no lower image under the hard palate in panoramic radiography due to the smaller size of sinus. In Waters’ projection, the radiodensity of 105 sinuses (95.5%) were consistent with that of CT. Conclusion : The panoramic radiography showed 90.0% of the sinus conditions fully or partially which may appear less accurate than that of Water’s view (95.5%) but with more detailed information of the inferior part of sinuses.
