      • Knowledge and Attitude Towards Tobacco Smoking among 13-15 Year-Old School Children in Viet Nam - Findings from GYTS 2014

Nguyen, Thanh Huong,Nguyen, Trung Kien,Kim, Bao Giang,Hoang, Van Minh,Phan, Thi Hai,Doan, Thu Huyen,Luong, Ngoc Khue,Nguyen, Thuy Linh,Nguyen, Tuan Lam,Pham, Thi Quynh Nga Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup1

Studies have shown that smoking is a learnt behavior, often initiated during adolescence. This paper aims to describe tobacco-related knowledge, attitude and associations among school adolescents aged 13-15 with exposure to anti-smoking information. Using data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Viet Nam, 2014, knowledge was measured through 4 questions about tobacco use, and attitude was assessed through 3 questions on personal, social and environmental aspects. Students giving most anti-tobacco responses to all questions were considered as having correct knowledge or appropriate attitude or both. Access to anti-smoking information was determined by exposure to any media messages on tobacco control during the past 30 days and teaching in school about the danger of tobacco use during the past 12 months. A substantial percentage of students thought that being near others who smoke might be harmful to them and smoking is harmful to health (89.4% and 89.6% respectively). However, only 46.4% reported that it is definitely difficult to quit smoking and 66.9% thought that smoking for only 1 or 2 years, once stopped, is harmful to health. Slightly more than half of the respondents reported appropriate attitude that young smokers have fewer friends than others and smoking makes them less attractive and less comfortable at social events. Noticing anti-smoking messages in the media together with having lessons in school about the dangers of tobacco substantially increased the likelihood of having correct knowledge, appropriate attitude and both. Despite relatively high awareness about smoking harms, effective educational communication is still highly needed to improve the level of comprehensive knowledge and an appropriate attitude regarding tobacco use.

A Study on the Poverty of Mountain People Depending on Forests

NGUYEN, Phuong Thi Minh,NGUYEN, Song Van,DO, Duc Tai,NGUYEN, Quynh Thi Thuy,DINH, Thanh Trung,NGUYEN, Hang Phan Thu Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7

Livelihood capitals have a clear influence on livelihood development. As for the livelihood results, it has been pointed out in the analysis of the poor households that the ability of people to escape poverty depends especially on the access to livelihood capitals. This study aims to analyze the impacts of livelihood capital on poverty among mountain people who depend on forests through human capital, social capital, natural capital, physical capital and financial capital. This research employs the model of binary regression function. Independent variables x1, x2, …, xn are targets of livelihood strategy, vulnerability context, and livelihood capitals. These variables were selected to be included in the original model with dependent variable Y as poor and non-poor households. This study surveys households living in upland areas, near forests, and households of ethnic minorities. The results show that, out of the poor household rate, nearly 4% are newly-poor households or those falling back into poverty. Therefore, the government needs to pay more attention to this disadvantaged group and implements policies such as education and training policies, credit support policies, policies to support forest development, and payment for forest environmental services in the context of emerging countries like Vietnam.

The Impact of Organizational Commitment on Employee Motivation: A Study in Vietnamese Enterprises

NGUYEN, Hoai Nam,LE, Quoc Hoi,TRAN, Quang Bach,TRAN, Thi Hoang Mai,NGUYEN, Thi Hai Yen,NGUYEN, Thi Thuy Quynh Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.6

The study examines direct and indirect impacts of organizational commitment on employee motivation through two mediating factors - opportunistic behavior and knowledge sharing - in Vietnamese enterprises. The samples were selected by the non-probability sampling method followed convenient sampling, relatively stratified by localities in Vietnam. The sample size was 636 employees in Vietnamese enterprises. The number of collected online questionnaires was 379, while the number of valid questionnaires was 329. In the direct survey, the number of distributed questionnaires was 750, while the number of collected questionnaires was 421 and the number of valid questionnaires was 307. The total number of valid questionnaires used for analysis was 636. The study used quantitative methods with structural equation modeling analysis. The results indicate that among the components of organizational commitment, normative commitment has both direct and indirect impacts on employee motivation through two mediating factors: opportunistic behavior and knowledge sharing. Meanwhile, affective commitment has only an indirect impact on employee motivation through these mediating factors. Continuance commitment has both direct and indirect impacts; however, it has only an indirect impact on employee motivation through opportunistic behavior. In addition, the results show opportunistic behavior has a negative impact on the knowledge sharing of employees in enterprises.

Factors Influencing on Consumer's Decision on Vegetarian Diets in Vietnam

NGO, Vu Quynh Thi,VO, Thi Anh Dao,NGO, Anh Phung,NGUYEN, Do Mai Anh,LE, Minh Thu,TO, Thi Phuong Loan,NGUYEN, Thi Thuy Phi Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.2

Recently, vegetarian diets have experienced a dramatic increase in popularity. The aim of the study is to explore and test the relationship between the factors influencing consumers' dietary decisions in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The questionnaire applied a five-point Likert scale to investigate factors that affect Ho Chi Minh City's citizens when they have a vegetarian diet. 497 respondents (68% female; 61.2% aged 18-22; 82.7% had regular vegetarian diets) living in Ho Chi Minh City took part in both online and offline surveys. The results were processed by SPSS 22.0 software. The reliability was checked by Cronbach Alpha and Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to identify the underlying relationships between measured variables. The Correlation analysis was implemented to show how strong and degree of two variables are related to each other before the multivariate regression equation was analyzed. The result showed the Five factors that were motivating people in Ho Chi Minh City to decide on plant-based diets, such as Animal Welfare, Health, Religion, Mood, and Reference groups. The mood is the most influential variable that significantly influences people's food choices. Attitudes toward vegetarian diets are changing. Therefore, recognizing the trends in food consumption might help companies take advantage of investment opportunities and build their marketing strategies.

Ant and silkworm pupae as convenient diets for the development and reproduction of big-eyed bug Geocoris ochropterus (Hemiptera: Geocoridae)

Ngoc Bao Chau Nguyen,Quynh Phuong Anh Nguyen,Thuy To Nhu Le,Thi Phung Kieu Nguyen,Bao Quoc Nguyen 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.2

We investigated the influence of convenient diets on big-eyed bug Geocoris ochropterus. Development and reproduction of G. ochropterus fed on convenient diets of ant pupae Oecophylla smaragdina and silkworm pupae Bombyx mori were examined using aphids Aphis gossypii as the control diet. Results showed that Geocoris ochropterus nymphs completed development to adults on all diets. Total average development period was 35.1 days fed on ant pupae, 35.9 days fed on silkworm pupae, and 36.0 days fed on aphids. Head width, body length, forewing length, and fresh body weight of adults were not affected by diets, except for females reared on ant pupae that were significantly heavier than those fed on aphids. There was no significant difference in offspring sex ratio. Total number of eggs deposited per female fed on ant pupae was significantly larger than when fed on aphids, while eggs laid by females fed on silkworm pupae were significantly longer than eggs laid by females fed on aphids. Results suggest that ant pupae and silkworm pupae could be effectively used for mass rearing of G. ochropterus.

      • Trends in Second-Hand Tobacco Smoke Exposure Levels at Home among Viet Nam School Children Aged 13-15 and Associated Factors

Nguyen, Tuan Lam,Pham, Thi Quynh Nga,Hoang, Van Minh,Kim, Bao Giang,Phan, Thi Hai,Doan, Thu Huyen,Nguyen, Thuy Linh,Duong, Khanh Van,Luong, Ngoc Khue Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup1

Second-hand tobacco smoke (SHS) exposure at home, especially among children, is a serious issue in Viet Nam. During the past decade, much effort has been taken for tobacco control in the country, including various prgorammes aiming to reduce SHS exposure among adults and children. This article analysed trends and factors associated with SHS exposure at home among school children aged 13-15 in Viet Nam, using the Global Youth Tobacco Surveys conducted in 2007 and 2014. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods with logistic regression were applied. Overall, there was a significant reduction in the level of exposure, from 58.5% (95%CI: 57.6-59.3) in 2007 to 47.1% (95%CI: 45.4-48.8) in 2014. Of the associated factors, having one or both parents smoking was significantly associated with the highest odds of SHS exposure at home (OR=5.0; 95%CI: 4.2-6.1). Conversely, having a mother with a college or higher education level was found to be a protective factor (OR=0.5; 95%CI: 0.3-0.8).

NGUYEN, Xuan Hung,DANG, Thuy Quynh,DINH, Thi Thao Quyen,DO, Phuong Thanh,PHAM, Thu Uyen,MAI, Duc Duong Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.6

The objective of this article is to assess the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) implementation on Corporate Brand Value (CBV) and Corporate Financial Performance (CFP). At the same time, the article examines the mediated role of CBV on the relationship between CSR implementation and CFP. In-depth interviews and observation techniques were used in this article on 4 experts to collect qualitative information. Quantitative analysis was based on primary data obtained from 454 employees working at enterprises providing Bancassurance services. The article uses various models of Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), and Structural Equation Analysis (SEM) using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 20.0 software. In addition, a 5-point Likert scale is used to measure observed variables. Research results show that CBV plays an intermediate role in the relationship between CSR implementation and CFP. At the same time, the implementation of CSR toward communities, customers, and workers directly impacts CBV and CFP. The article draws a new conclusion; there is no relationship found between the implementation of CSR and CFP. The result proposes implications for the state and Bancassurance service providers to develop and implement CSR-related policies and activities to enhance their brand value and financial performance.

      • Forskolin rescues hypoxia-induced cognitive dysfunction in zebrafish: a potential role of HBP/O-GlcNAc cycling

        Quynh T N Nguyen,Jiwon Park,Dong Yeol Kim,Sang-Min Kim,Hyun Jae Sung,Thuy-Duong Thi Tran,Ngan An Bui,Inn-Oc Han 한국당과학회 2022 한국당과학회 학술대회 Vol.2022 No.07

Repeated sublethal hypoxia exposure is reported to accelerate brain inflammation, and to affect the initiation and progression of cognitive dysfunction. Forskolin, an adenylate cyclase activator, is well-known as an inducer of the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling. It has been shown that forskolin protects against various neuronal complications and induces long term memory; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we showed that intraperitoneal administration of 200ng/g forskolin for 5 days on zebrafish notably recovered hypoxia-induced social interaction impairment and learning memory deficit. Forskolin suppressed hypoxia-induced neuroinflammation indicated by the decrease of NF-kB signaling and GFAP expression. On mouse neuroblastoma cell line, forskolin notably rescued hypoxia-induced cell death and dysfunction. The hypoxia model either in vivo or in vitro exerted a downregulation of PKA/CREB signaling and its downstream, c-Fos and BDNF expression, which was restored by forskolin. As previous studies proposed that hypoxia-induced hypo-O-GlcNAcylation could be an important causal factor for cognitive defect, we further investigated whether the HBP/O-GlcNAcylation cycling was changed by forskolin. Intriguingly, we observed that following forskolin treatment, OGT protein level (enzyme controls the addition of GlcNAc group to target proteins) induced considerably, which was accompanied by the upregulated O-GlcNAcylation level. Under forskolin treatment, O-GlcNAcylation flux on hypoxia-exposed zebrafish was reserved in line with the recovery of other inflammation and learning/memory markers. Next, we studied further about potential regulation of O-GlcNAcylation on the neuroprotective effect of forskolin. Zebrafish were treated with 500ng/g 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON), an inhibitor of GFAT1 (enzyme that catalyzes the reaction from fructose-6-P to glucosamine-6-P), to downregulate the O-GlcNAcylation of proteins. It was observed that DON treatment led to learning/memory impairment, which was rescued by forskolin. Moreover, forskolin conserved hypo-O-GlcNAcylation and neuroinflammation following DON administration. Further experiments are being conducted to examine how HBP/O-GlcNAc flux is involved in the beneficial effect of forskolin on cognitive function.

GLOBAL ATTRACTOR FOR A CLASS OF QUASILINEAR DEGENERATE PARABOLIC EQUATIONS WITH NONLINEARITY OF ARBITRARY ORDER

Tran, Thi Quynh Chi,Le, Thi Thuy,Nguyen, Xuan Tu Korean Mathematical Society 2021 대한수학회논문집 Vol.36 No.3

In this paper we study the existence and long-time behavior of weak solutions to a class of quasilinear degenerate parabolic equations involving weighted p-Laplacian operators with a new class of nonlinearities. First, we prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions by combining the compactness and monotone methods and the weak convergence techniques in Orlicz spaces. Then, we prove the existence of global attractors by using the asymptotic a priori estimates method.

The Impact of Product Consumption Strategy and Financial Autonomy on Competitiveness of Technology Firms in Vietnam

Van Thi Hong PHAM,Quynh Thuy NGUYEN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.4

This study aims to determine the impact of product consumption strategy and financial autonomy on the competitiveness of technology firms in Vietnam. This study employs panel data of 27 technology firms collected from listed financial statements of the business for the period (2010–2019). The study also uses some indicators reflecting the macroeconomic situation of the economy collected from the World Bank. Instead of Exploratory Factor Analysis which has been used before, the study uses the feasible generalized least squares (FGLS) estimation as the main method. The FGLS corrects the variance changes and autocorrelation on the dataset of these Vietnamese technology firms. The results reveal that the strategy of product consumption and financial autonomy positively affect the competitiveness of technology firms. These are also two core factors of the technology industry, which have a strong impact on the increase in the competitiveness of firms. The findings of this study suggest that technology firms do not need to invest in many long-term assets, but mainly in short-term assets in order to quickly respond to the strategies for consuming new technology products of the business. In addition, the increase in Gross Domestic Product per capita also positively affects the increase in the competitiveness of technology firms.
