Metastasis of rhabdomysarcoma to the breast is a very rare manifestation in adult males. Herein, we report a case of metastasis from embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the left hypothenar muscle that presented as a breast mass in a 38-year-old man, who four months later expired because of multiple bone metastases related to pancytopenia. We describe the various imaging findings, including mammograms, ultrasonography, computerized tomography (CT), positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of this rare disease. The various imaging findings of this lesion could be helpful for future diagnosis of male breast lesions.
Intracerebellar Schwannoma in Presumed Schwannomatosis: A Case Report
Myeongjong Kim,Kim Jeong Hoon 대한말초신경학회 2018 The Nerve Vol.4 No.1
It is generally believed that schwannomas are derived from the nerve sheath. Intracerebellar schwannomas are rare, especially in patients with schwannomatosis. In this report, we present a case of intracerebellar schwannoma in presumed schwannomatosis. A 31-year-old man presented with headache and vomiting; he then underwent computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and transfemoral cerebral angiography. MRI revealed an intracerebellar tumor and multiple spinal cord tumors. The brain tumor was removed completely through midline suboccipital craniotomy. The histological diagnosis of schwannoma was confirmed. The patient was not tested for mutation in the neurofibromatosis gene. However, all his symptoms were consistent with a diagnosis of schwannomatosis. Intracerebellar schwannomas are rare tumors; however, they should be considered as differential diagnoses when a well-circumscribed nodule in the cerebellar hemisphere with typical signs of schwannoma is present in patients with schwannomatosis.

Abstract

In this study, carbon-black (CB) conductive electrodes were successfully printed using the high-resolution electrohydrodynamic (EHD) jet printing technique. The wrapping of CB bundles with a polymeric surfactant, Triton X-100 (TX-100), enabled the CB/TX-100 composites to well disperse in ethanol/deionized water for use in the preparation of conductive inks for EHD jet printing. By adjusting the voltage and operation distance, the applied electrostatic and gravity forces to the loaded CB/TX-100 inks overcame the fluid forces (viscosity and surface tension) to elongate the droplet and provide continuous jet lines, where the ink widths were smaller than the diameter of the nozzle. The EHD-printed CB/TX-100 in the stable cone-jet mode formed conductive lines and various pattern shapes. These conductive lines were utilized as source and drain electrodes of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with solution-processed organic semiconductors. The OFET with printed CB/TX-100 electrodes exhibited better electrical performances, including a higher saturation mobility and smaller hysteresis, than those of the reference OFET with Au electrodes.

Highlights

Carbon black/Triton X-100 surfactant composite solutions are prepared for EHD printing.

CB patterns are successfully printed under stable cone-jet and exhibit good conductivity.

OFETs with EHD-printed CB exhibited better performances with negligible hysteresis.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

성은학 ( Eunhak Seong ),임수경 ( Sookyoung Lim ),이명종 ( Myeongjong Lee ),김호준 ( Hojun Kim ) 한방재활의학과학회 2021 한방재활의학과학회지 Vol.31 No.1
Objectives This study was conducted to confirm the possibility of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) treatment through natural herbal medicines. Methods After screening a total of 77 herbal medicines through the paper disc agar diffusion method, we selected the herbal medicines that showed a effectiveness compared to the positive control vancomycin. Afterwards, drugs that showed inhibitory effects compared to C. difficile without inhibition of Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus plantarum, known as beneficial bacteria, were selected and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was confirmed by applying the Broth microdilution method. Results The Coptidis Rhizoma, well known for its antimicrobial effect, was found to have antimicrobial effects on C. difficile, but also had inhibitory effects on the beneficial bacterium B. bifidum. 30% ethanol extraction Crataegi fructus, Corni fructus and Mume fructus had antimicrobial effects on C. difficile without inhibiting the beneficial bacteria B. bifidum and L. plantarum. The MIC values of 30% ethanol extraction Crataegi fructus, Corni fructus and Mume fructus were found to be 10 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL and 5 mg/mL, respectively. Conclusions Crataegi fructus, Corni fructus and Mume fructus were identified as candidate medicines for C. difficile. Further researchs will need to be done in vivo, and to find an optimal extraction method accompanied by economic evaluation. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2021;31(1):47-57)
