Joyal et al extended Theorem A to the polynomials whose coefficients are monotonic but not necessarily non-negative. In this paper, I will prove some extensions and generalizations of this result by relaxing the hypothesis.

An initial study on the nucleation and growth of diamond, using hot filament chemical vapor deposition(HFCVD) technique, was carried out on Co and CoO thin buffer layers on non-carbon substrates (Si (100)), and theresults were compared with conventional scratching method. The substrate temperature during the growth was maintainedat 750±50 oC. A mixture of CH4 and H2 (1 : 100 volume %) was used for deposition. The total pressure duringthe two hour deposition was 30±2 Torr. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study showed the diamond nucleationat different time periods on the Co and CoO seed layers. It is observed that Co helps in nucleation of diamond eventhough it is known to degrade the quality of diamond film on W-C substrate. The reason for improvement in our studyis attributed to (i) the low content of Co (~0.01%) compared to W-C substrate (~5-6%), (ii) formation of CoSi2 phaseat elevated temperature, which might work as nucleation sites for diamond. SEM analysis reveals a change in the morphologyof diamond film grown on cobalt oxide and a significant reduction in the size of densely packed crystallites. Raman spectroscopic analysis further suggests an improvement in the quality of the film grown on CoO buffer layer.
Effect of once-a-day milk feeding on behavior and growth performance of pre-weaning calves

Objective: The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the effects of once-a-day milk feeding on growth performance and routine behavior of preweaning dairy calves. Methods: At 22nd day of age, twenty-four Holstein calves were randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups (n = 12/treatment) based on milk feeding frequency (MF): i) 3 L of milk feeding two times a day; ii) 6 L of milk feeding once a day. The milk feeding amount was reduced to half for all calves between 56 and 60 days of age and weaning was done at 60 days of age. To determine the increase in weight and structural measurements, each calf was weighed and measured at 3 weeks of age and then at weaning. The daily behavioral activity of each calf was assessed from the 22nd day of age till weaning (60th day of age) through Nederlandsche Apparatenfabriek (NEDAP) software providing real-time data through a logger fitted on the calf’s foot. Results: There was no interaction (p≥0.17) between MF and sex of the calves for routine behavioral parameters, body weight and structural measurements. Similarly, there was no effect of MF on routine behavioral parameters, body weight and structural measurements. However, the sex of the calves affected body weight gain in calves. Male calves had 27% greater total body weight and average daily gain than female calves. There was no effect of the sex of the calves on behavioral measurements. Collectively, in the current study, no negative effects of a once-a-day milk feeding regimen were found on routine behavioral and growth parameters of preweaning calves in group housing. Conclusion: Once-a-day milk feeding can be safely adopted in preweaning calves from 22nd day of age.
The Synthesis of Maghemite and Hematite Nanospheres

Maghemite and hematite nanospheres were synthesized by using the Sol-gel technique. The structural properties of these nanosphere powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and pore size distribution. Hematite phase shows crystalline structures. The mean particle size that resulted from BET and XRD analyses were 4.9 nm and 2 nm. It can be seen from transmission electron microscopy that the size of the particles are very small which is in good agreement with the FESEM and the X-ray diffraction. The BET and pore size method were employed for specific surface area determination.

Diamond thin films have been deposited on a variety of substrates using different techniques. Hot Filament Chemical Vapor Deposition has been a most commonly used technique due to its simple instrumentation and effectiveness in producing high quality diamond films. However the substrate temperature has to be maintained at relatively high temperature above ~ 700℃. This has resulted into use of substrates or coatings with melting point higher than substrate temperature held during the diamond film growth. In this communication we show using Atomic Force Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Raman Spectroscopy that even low melting point zinc on scratched Si (100) substrate could produce good quality diamond film at substrate temperature ~ 750℃. A liquid substrate can support the growth of diamond film.
Performance analysis of multi-stage gravitational water vortex turbine

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, the performance of a multi-stage gravitational water vortex turbine (GWVT), which is assembled in a conical basin, is investigated analytically and experimentally. Each runner of the multi-stage GWVT is independent in terms of power generation through telescopic shaft arrangement. Performance parameters, such as rotational speed, torque, power and efficiency, are analyzed under various load conditions in which the effects of design parameters, such as rotors ratio, offset distance between neighbouring runners, and intra-staging and inter-staging of two-stage and three-stage GWVT, are considered. In the multi-stage GWVT, the profile of the blades of upstream runners result in minimal vortex distortion. Thus, the power generation capacity of downstream runners are ultimately enhanced because the performance of latter runners strongly depend on the head utilization capacity of the former runner. Furthermore, the runners with blades tilted on a vertical plane are best suited for the position near the bottom of the basin, whereas cross-flow blades are recommended at the top position. Moreover, the present study suggests that the rotors ratio of the neighbouring runners be selected in such a way that the two runners have the same rotor-to-basin diameter ratio with optimum offset distance. Multi-staging in GWVT demonstrates the development of a combined effect of solid body rotation and free vortex. It also shows a prominent improvement in the overall performance of the turbine compared with that of single-stage GWVT. The proposed mathematical model successfully predicts the experimental results qualitatively and quantitatively, thereby proving its reliability and robustness.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Offset increase between two runners in a conical basin re-originates the vortex. </LI> <LI> Undistorted surface vortex has more energy available for power generation. </LI> <LI> Head utilization capacity of top runners dictate the performance of bottom runners. </LI> <LI> Rotors ratio of runners must be similar to rotor diameter to basin diameter ratio. </LI> <LI> Multi-staging in GWVT increase the overall performance. </LI> </UL> </P>
