Mapping the East in the Universal History of Art

“Art” defined as a universal expression of human creativity is a modern concept. although the discourse of art originally emerged in the West and has worked to consolidate European hegemony, it historically required the absorption of non-Western Others in order to validate its claim of universality. Universal survey museums played an essential role in visualizing the universality of Art, and East Asian objects were the first category of non-Western objects that was Appropriated into this project. This paper examines the “elevation” of East Asian objects to “art” at the Museum of Fine arts, Boston in the early twentieth century, and uncovers the ideological and political motivations of American museums behind their promotion of East asian Art. The American desire to create a distinctly “american” cultural identity through Art museums furthermore converged with the interests of modern Japanese cultural nationalism through the figure of the Japanese Art critic Okakura Kakuz?, who worked as a curator of East asian Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

In avian species, addition of aspirin to the diet was shown to improve the egg production and to elevate the proportion of essential fatty acid contents in several body tissues. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary aspirin on the accumulation of essential fatty acids in egg yolk. Laying Japanese quail at 170 days of age were fed practical diets supplemented with graded levels (0, 0.4 and 0.8%) of aspirin for 2 weeks. There were no significant differences in final body weight and liver weight. Food intake and egg weight on the 0.8% aspirin diet were significantly lower than those on the 0 or 0.4% aspirin diet. In the liver and egg yolk lipids, the 16:0 in birds fed the 0.8% aspirin diet was significantly higher than that in birds fed the aspirin-free diet. However, the proportion of n-6 poly-unsaturated fatty acids was not affected by feeding aspirin diets.
Retroperitoneal Hematoma as a Serious Complication of Endovascular Aneurysmal Coiling

Retroperitoneal hematoma (RH) due to radiologic intervention for an intracranial lesion is relatively rare, difficult to diagnose, and can be lifethreatening. We report a case of RH that developed in a patient on anticoagulant therapy following endovascular coiling of a ruptured anterior communicating artery (AcoA) aneurysm. An 82-year-old man presented with a 12-day history of headache. Computed tomography (CT) on admission demonstrated slight subarachnoid hemorrhage, and left carotid angiography revealed an AcoA aneurysm. The next day, the aneurysm was occluded with coils via the femoral approach under general anesthesia. The patient received a bolus of 5,000 units of heparin immediately following the procedure, and an infusion rate of 10,000 units/day was initiated. The patient gradually became hypotensive 25 hours after coiling. Abdominal CT showed a huge, high-density soft-tissue mass filling the right side of the retroperitoneum space. The patient eventually died of multiple organ failure five days after coiling. RH after interventional radiology for neurological disease is relatively rare and can be difficult to diagnose if consciousness is disturbed. This case demonstrates the importance of performing routine physical examinations, sequentially measuring the hematocrit and closely monitoring systemic blood pressures following interventional radiologic procedures in patients with abnormal mental status.
Voice Activated Wheelchair with Collision Avoidance Using Sensor Information

This paper develops a functional voice activated wheelchair. Various interfaces to control powered wheelchair are proposed. Since the voice is the most natural communication ways for person, our study pays attention to speech recognition. The user controls the wheelchair by the interactive operation. The wheelchair does not act based on false speech recognition. However, there is a problem that is the wheelchair collides in the wall and obstacle by delaying the voice command. Then, our system applies the collision avoidance function CAF by which wheelchair avoids the wall or obstacle without voice command by using the informatio of two kinds of sensor. CAF assists the user to control the wheelchair without colliding in the wall or obstacle. The effectiveness of our system was confirmed through the running experiment.
Preparation of copper nanoparticles with an organic coating by a pulsed wire discharge method

In the pulsed wire discharge method, a coating technique to prepare metal nanoparticles covered with organic matter has been investigated. Copper nanoparticles covered with organic matter have been successfully prepared by evaporation of a copper wire in an oleic acid vapor/mist. The thickness of the coating layer was a few nanometres. The median diameter of the powder was 25 nm, and became 10 nm smaller than that without the coating because of the inhibition of particle growth by the formation of the coating. From phase identification by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis, it was found that the copper nanoparticles have been passivated and have not been oxidized in over 2 months.
