This research paper uses the social capital perspective to revisit the much-discussed and as yet intriguing research question: the role of leadership behaviors in generating positive organizational attitudes and behaviors within the Asian context. The main purpose of this study is threefold: (1) to verify whether three leadership styles (i.e., servant leadership, ethical leadership, and participative leadership) contribute to enhancing organizational trust and commitment, (2) to test the full and partial mediating roles of organizational trust and commitment in the relationship between the three leadership predictors and organizational outcomes (i.e., in-role performance and managerial accountability), and (3) to probe indirect leadership impacts on performance and accountability outcomes. Using the alumni database (for 10 years, from 2001 to 2010) of the department of public administration at Zhejiang University, we constructed a survey (2011) (all items are selfreported: first round: 362 participants; second round: 300 participants; third round: 252 participants; valid sample size: 239 participants) that measured public employees` perceptions and behaviors in public organizations such as regarding leadership, commitment, HR policies, perceived organizational state, OCB, job tension, and trust. We employed exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to operationalize the variables and confirm the latent constructs from the relevant survey questions. Second, to confirm the total direct and indirect effects, we employed a full structural equation model (SEM) (i.e., a measurement model with a path model) to test the interrelationships among variables and to assess the relative strength of each variable. The results of this study are interesting as they show that ethical and participative leadership behaviors are positively and significantly associated with organizational trust and commitment in the Chinese public sector. Based on a discussion of the main findings, various research and practical implications for public management theory and practice are provided.

<▼1><P>The highly efficient catalytic oxidation and oxidative kinetic resolution of secondary alcohols has been achieved using mononuclear Mn(<SMALL>II</SMALL>) catalysts and H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>.</P></▼1><▼2><P>The highly efficient catalytic oxidation and oxidative kinetic resolution (OKR) of secondary alcohols has been achieved using a synthetic manganese catalyst with low loading and hydrogen peroxide as an environmentally benign oxidant in the presence of a small amount of sulfuric acid as an additive. The product yields were high (up to 93%) for alcohol oxidation and the enantioselectivity was excellent (>90% ee) for the OKR of secondary alcohols. Mechanistic studies revealed that alcohol oxidation occurs <I>via</I> hydrogen atom (H-atom) abstraction from an α-CH bond of the alcohol substrate and a two-electron process by an electrophilic Mn–oxo species. Density functional theory calculations revealed the difference in reaction energy barriers for H-atom abstraction from the α-CH bonds of <I>R</I>- and <I>S</I>-enantiomers by a chiral high-valent manganese–oxo complex, supporting the experimental result from the OKR of secondary alcohols.</P></▼2>

Sensing data collection and energy replenishment are key issues of wireless rechargeable sensor network (WRSN). However, due to the limited battery capacity and cache size of mobile charging vehicle (MCV), using a single MCV to collect data and supplement energy for large-scale WRSNs is impossible. Therefore, we propose a joint mobile charging and data collection strategy of multiple MCVs for large-scale WRSNs. In this strategy, a periodic charging and data collection model is established to ensure that the nodes work permanently, and the sensing data are collected promptly by MCVs. We formulate the problem of reducing the time of charging and data collection of multiple MCVs and balancing the energy consumption of each MCV into a multi-objective optimization problem. To address the problem, a multi-objective Monkey King evolutionary (MOMKE) algorithm based on Pareto dominance is proposed. The influence of the parametric setting of the MOMKE is analyzed, while also verifying the feasibility of the algorithm. The experiment results indicate that MOMKE outperforms the three existing methods in terms of charging efficiency and data collection efficiency by 10% and 7%, respectively. Moreover, MOMKE is competitive in terms of the completion of the shortest moving path and maximum data collection delay.

Addition of probiotics to yogurt with desired health benefits is gaining increasing attention. To further understand the effect of probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum on the quality and function of fermented milk, probiotic fermented milk (PFM) made with probiotic L. plantarum K25 and yogurt starter (L. delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus) was compared with the control fermented milk (FM) made with only the yogurt starter. The probiotic strain was shown to survive well with a viable count of 7.1 ± 0.1 log CFU/g in the PFM sample after 21 days of storage at 4oC. The strain was shown to promote formation of volatiles such as acetoin and 2,3-butanediol with milk fragrance, and it did not cause post-acidification during refrigerated storage. Metabolomics analysis by GC-MS datasets coupled with multivariate statistical analysis showed that addition of L. plantarum K25 increased formation of over 20 metabolites detected in fermented milk, among which γ-aminobutyric acid was the most prominent. Together with several other metabolites with relatively high levels in fermented milk such as glyceric acid, malic acid, succinic acid, glycine, alanine, ribose, and 1,3-dihydroxyacetone, they might play important roles in the probiotic function of L. plantarum K25. Further assay of the bioactivity of the PFM sample showed significant (p < 0.05) increase of ACE inhibitory activity from 22.3% at day 1 to 49.3% at day 21 of the refrigerated storage. Therefore, probiotic L. plantarum K25 could be explored for potential application in functional dairy products.

<P>Lamina inclination is a key agronomical character that determines plant architecture and is sensitive to auxin and brassinosteroids (BRs). <I>Loose Plant Architecture1</I> (<I>LPA1</I>) in rice (<I>Oryza sativa</I>) and its Arabidopsis homologues (<I>SGR5/AtIDD15</I>) have been reported to control plant architecture and auxin homeostasis. This study explores the role of <I>LPA1</I> in determining lamina inclination in rice. <I>LPA1</I> acts as a positive regulator to suppress lamina bending. Genetic and biochemical data indicate that <I>LPA1</I> suppresses the auxin signalling that interacts with C-22-hydroxylated and 6-deoxo BRs, which regulates lamina inclination independently of <I>OsBRI1</I>. Mutant <I>lpa1</I> plants are hypersensitive to indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) during the lamina inclination response, which is suppressed by the brassinazole (Brz) inhibitor of C-22 hydroxylase involved in BR synthesis. A strong synergic effect is detected between <I>lpa1</I> and <I>d2</I> (the defective mutant for catalysis of C-23-hydroxylated BRs) during IAA-mediated lamina inclination. No significant interaction between <I>LPA1</I> and <I>OsBRI1</I> was identified. The <I>lpa1</I> mutant is sensitive to C-22-hydroxylated and 6-deoxo BRs in the <I>d61-1</I> (rice <I>BRI1</I> mutant) background. We present evidence verifying that two independent pathways function via either BRs or <I>BRI1</I> to determine IAA-mediated lamina inclination in rice. RNA sequencing analysis and qRT-PCR indicate that <I>LPA1</I> influences the expression of three <I>OsPIN</I> genes (<I>OsPIN1a</I>, <I>OsPIN1c</I> and <I>OsPIN3a</I>), which suggests that auxin flux might be an important factor in <I>LPA1</I>-mediated lamina inclination in rice.</P>

Although associations between thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP) and cancers have been recognized, the effects of TXNIP on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) prognosis remained to be determined in detail. In addition, while hypoxia is a key characteristic of tumor cell growth microenvironment, the effect of hypoxia on TXNIP expression is controversial. In this study, formaldehyde fixed and paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples of 70 NSCLC patients who underwent resection between January 2010 and December 2011 were obtained. Evaluation of TXNIP and hypoxia inducible factor-$1{\alpha}$ ($HIF-1{\alpha}$) protein expression in FFPE samples was made by immunohistochemistry. By Kaplan-Meier method, patients with high TXNIP expression demonstrated a significantly shorter progression free survival (PFS) compared with those with low TXNIP expression (18.0 months, 95%CI: 11.7, 24.3 versus 23.0 months, 95%CI: 17.6, 28.4, P=0.02). High TXNIP expression level was also identified as an independent prognostic factor by Cox regression analysis (adjusted hazard ratio: 2.46; 95%CI: 1.08, 5.56; P=0.03). Furthermore, TXNIP expression was found to be significantly correlated with $HIF-1{\alpha}$ expression (Spearman correlation=0.67, P=0.000). To further confirm correlations, we established a tumor cell hypoxic culture model. Expression of TXNIP was up-regulated in all three NSCLC cell lines (A549, SPC-A1, and H1299) under hypoxic conditions. This study suggests that hypoxia induces increased TXNIP expression in NSCLC and high TXNIP expression could be a poor prognostic marker.

A superoxide anion radical (O2 ˙-) nonenzymatic electrochemical sensor based on PtRuCu ternary alloy nanoparticles/electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) composite modified glassy carbon electrode (PtRuCu/ERGO/GCE) was developed. ERGO and PtRuCu/ERGO composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The prepared PtRuCu/ERGO/ GCE showed remarkable performance toward the electrocatalytic reduction of (O2 ˙-). The sensor possessed a high sensitivity of 1725µA · mM-1 · cm-2, a wide linear range of 7.5–330 µM (R2 = 0.993) and a low detection limit of 0.7 µM (S/N = 3), as well as excellent selectivity, reproducibility and stability, which can be attributed to the synergistic effect of ERGO and PtRuCu ternary alloy nanoparticles. Therefore, the prepared sensor is promising for electrochemical determination of O2˙-.
