        Rheological properties and thermal degradation behaviors of sonochemically treated polycarbonate/polysiloxanes blends

        Two polysiloxanes having different chemical structures were blended with polycarbonate (PC) under ultrasonic irradiation in solution. The polysiloxanes used were poly(methylphenyl siloxane) and vinylterminated poly(dimethyl siloxane). It was of primary interest to investigate the effect of polysiloxane structure on the rheological properties of PC/polysiloxane blends. It was found that a small amount (1.5 phr) of polysiloxanes greatly altered the melt viscosities and elasticity of PC. In particular, incorporation of poly(methylphenylsiloxane) led to a notable increase in elasticity with greater shear sensitivity of PC. The observed rheological behaviors of PC/polysiloxane blends were partly explained in conjunction with the tendencies found in ultrasonic degradation of polysiloxanes. Thermal stability and morphology in sonicated blends of PC/polysiloxane blends were also discussed.

        Extracting Flick Operator for Predicting Performance by GOMS Model in Small Touch Screen

        Objective: The purpose of this study is to extract GOMS manual operator, except for an experiment with participants. Background: The GOMS model has advantage of rapid modeling which is suitable for the environment of technology development which has a short life cycle products with a fast pace. The GOMS model was originally designed for desktop environment so that it is not adequate for implementing into the latest HCI environment such as small touch screen device. Therefore, this research proposed GOMS manual operator extraction methodology which is excluded experimental method. And flick Gesture was selected to explain application of proposed methodology to extract new operator. Method: Divide into start to final step of hand gesture needed to extract as an operator through gesture task analysis. Then apply the original GOMS operator to each similar step of gesture and modify the operator for implementation stage based on existing Fitts" law research. Steps that are required to move are modified based on the Fitts" law developed in touch screen device. Finally, new operator can be derived from using these stages and a validation experiment, performed to verify the validity of new operator and methodology by comparing human performance. Results: The average movement times of the participants" performance and the operator which is extracted in case study are not different significantly. Also the average of movement times of each type of view study is not different significantly. Conclusion: In conclusion, the result of the proposed methodology for extracting new operator is similar to the result of the experiment with their participants. Furthermore the GOMS model included the operator by the proposed methodology in this research could be applied successfully to predict the user"s performance. Application: Using this methodology could be applied to develop new finger gesture in the touch screen. Also this proposed methodology could be applied to evaluate the usability of certain system rapidly including the new finger gesture performance.

      • Synthesis of Polycarbonate-Poly(methyl methacrylate) Copolymer via Sonochemical Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate in Polycarbonate Solution

        <P>Methyl methacrylate (MMA) was polymerized in the presence of polycarbonate (PC) by ultrasonic irradiation-initiated polymerization. The resulting products consisted of mixtures of homopolymers of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), PC and PC-PMMA copolymer because of the homopolymerization of MMA itself and copolymerization with macroradicals of PC. Formation of the PC-PMMA copolymer was confirmed by FTIR analysis of the reaction products after a proper extraction of free PMMA from the mixture. In order to verify the effectiveness of the PC-PMMA copolymer as a compatibilizer for PC/styrene-co- acrylonitrile (SAN) blend, 5 phr of PC-PMMA was added during melt mixing of PC/SAN in a batch mixer. It was found from the investigation of morphology and rheological properties that interphase of SAN and PC was fortified by numerous ligaments of PC-PMMA copolymer, which resulted in increase of melt viscosity and storage modulus of the blend.</P>

      • Mutations in SOHLH1 gene associate with nonobstructive Azoospermia

        <P>In a previous study, we found SOHLH1 (spermatogenesis and oogenesis-specific basic helix-loop-helix 1) as the first testis-specific basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor essential for spermatogonial differentiation. SOHLH1 therefore represents an excellent candidate gene for testicular failure such as nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). We analyzed whether there were mutations in the SOHLH1 gene in 96 Korean patients with NOA. The sequence analysis discovered three novel variations: one intronic variant (c.346−1G>A), and two nonsynonymous exonic variants (c.91T>C and c.529C>A) with known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which included six intronic variants, two synonymous, and two nonsynonymous variants. We examined the consequences of mutations in SOHLH1 using in vivo and in vitro assays. Analysis of transcripts from minigenes carrying the c.346−1G>A revealed that splicing site variation leads to the partial deletion at a cryptic splicing site within exon 4. This deletion results in SOHLH1 with a truncated bHLH domain. Transient transfection assay showed that the SOHLH1 mutant with the truncated domain disrupted the transcriptional activity of KIT promoter, whereas two missense mutations harboring either p.Arg37Gln or p.Pro269Ser did not have a significant effect on its transactivation. Our findings indicate that a splice-acceptor site mutation that probably causes a nonfunctional SOHLH1 protein results in nonobstructive azoospermia by the lack of normal spermatogenesis.       • The oocyte-specific transcription factor, Nobox, regulates the expression of <i>Pad6</i>, a peptidylarginine deiminase in the oocyte

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Nobox is an oocyte-specific transcriptional regulator. <I>Nobox</I> deficiency disrupts early folliculogenesis and the expression of oocyte-specific genes in mice. In the present study, we found that peptidylarginine deiminase 6 (<I>Pad6</I>) was downregulated in <I>Nobox</I>-null ovaries. <I>Pad6</I> is preferentially expressed in oocytes and its transcript is detectable at embryonic day 16.5. In addition, we identified one Nobox DNA-binding element (NBE) within the mouse <I>Pad6</I> promoter. The NBE includes a core sequence TAATTA. Sequence-specific binding of Nobox to the TAATTA motif was confirmed. <I>Nobox</I> overexpression augmented transcriptional activity of a <I>luciferase</I> reporter driven by mouse Pad6. Our findings indicate that Nobox is a critical regulator that orchestrates oocyte-specific genes such as <I>Pad6</I> during folliculogenesis.</P>

        Training for the Translation of Korean Literature : Theory and Practice

        Our aim is to study the issue of literary translation training in ordinary situations but also (and mainly) when it is carried into the B language of the translator (in our case from Korean to French). In Korea, we try to overcome the lack of French translators able to produce literary translations by themselves by training Korean translators working into their B language (from Korean to French). The Ewha Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) and some other institutes like the Korean Literary Translation Institute (KLTI) offer training programs which take into account the specific situation of the Korean literature, expressed in a language of limited extension. At first we address a common question: can literary translation be taught? If the answer is positive, a second question arises: what kind of training would be pertaining for literary translation, an activity which belongs to art and technique altogether? The purpose of this paper is to address both questions with regard to the specific situation of Korean literature. The first part of this paper is devoted to theoretical aspects of our study (definition of key notions, with an emphasis on the Interpretative Theory of Translation) and practical aspects as well (general survey of the present training program of translators). In the second part, we analyze the different steps of the translation process, from understanding to reformulation in the light of the Interpretative Theory of Translation. Our conclusion is that, by using an efficient training program, we are able to train qualified translators as long as we can rely on the help of not only the teaching institutions but also the government.

        물류서비스 산업의 성장함에 따라 산업 전반의 다각적인 측면에서 물류비용의 절감이 산업 비용절감으로의 주요 한 요인으로 자리잡고 있다. 짧은 시간에도 수많은 화물들이 오가는 물류창고 환경에서 화물의 입출고 정보, 상세한 적재위치 및 부가정보 들을 자동으로 수집하고 저장하여 추후 활용 가능한 형태로 가공하는 과정을 둠에 따라 물류창고의 사용환경을 개선하고 보다 신속하고 효율적인 물류창고 사용이 가능할 것이며 그에 따라 물류창고의 운용 비용 절감 효과가 극대화 될 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 물류창고의 효율적인 사용 및 관리에 따른 비용 절감효과를 얻기 위하여 천장에 RFID 태그를 부착하는 기법을 적용한 RFID 천장 태그 부착 기반의 물류창고를 제안한다. 물류창고 환경에 비접촉식 자동 사물인식 시스템인 RFID 기술을 적용함으로써 물류창고 내에서의 화물 저장위치 및 처리 상황을 실시간으로 자동 모니터링 하고 관리가 가능하도록 한다.

        한불문학번역에서 자가번역 현상 -최윤의 「갈증의 시학」의 경우-

        This paper explores the hypothesis that translation by the author, who is aware of the meaning even before it was expressed in language, would improve the outcome of literary translation. Auto-translation - wherein the author’s bilingual proficiency plays a substantial role - is relevant to authors writing in non-central languages in terms of literary recognition and accumulation. Auto-translation allows the author to rewrite the original according to their initial intentions and aims into the target language. As such, it is associated with deverbalized meaning from the interpretive theory of Translation studies as well as the theory of rewriting. This paper seeks to adapt these theoretical reflections into the French translation of Korean literature through the analysis of Ch’oe Yun’s “Poetics of Thirst”. Analysis demonstrates that Ch’oe Yun’s translation produces a text in the target language that retains linguistic equivalence, thereby making it a variation that enhances French readability, rather than generating another original that contains the aims the author had prior to writing the original text.
