Silica Aerogel/Potassium Hexatitanate Whisker Composite Coated Fabric for Metallurgical Protective Clothing

        Jie Wang,Mengling Wang,Liuxiang Zhan,Ni Wang 한국섬유공학회 2023 Fibers and polymers Vol.24 No.1

Silica aerogel/potassium hexatitanate whisker composite coated fabric was successfully prepared by polyacrylate coating, which could further improve the thermal insulation property of the fabric and provide more efficient thermal protection. The results show that with the increase of the proportion of aerogel particles, the thermal insulation property of the coatedfabric first increases and then decreases. When the mass ratio of silica aerogel particles to potassium hexatitanate whisker is3:7, the composite coated fabric has the best thermal insulation performance with thermal conductivity of 0.232 W/(m·k). After the heat source irradiated the fabric, the temperature difference of the inner and outer of the coated fabric decreased by16.1 ℃ and 19.35 ℃, respectively, compared with the original fabric, and the composite coated fabric exhibited more than75% reflectivity in the near-infrared band. Also, in the test of resistance of the coated fabric to molten metal splash, afterthe coated fabric was poured with 250 g of molten aluminum, the surface of the coated fabric was not adhered by moltenaluminum, and the coated fabric was not burned through and remained intact in appearance, and the PVC film attached to theback of the coated fabric was not damaged, the surface texture of PVC film was clear, indicating that the composite coatedfabric has a good thermal protection effect.

The Emerging Importance of Mitochondria in White Adipocytes: Neither Last nor Least

        Juan Cai,Fenfen Wang,Mengle Shao 대한내분비학회 2023 Endocrinology and metabolism Vol.38 No.5

The growing recognition of mitochondria’s crucial role in the regulation of white adipose tissue remodeling and energy balance underscores its significance. The marked metabolic diversity of mitochondria provides the molecular and cellular foundation for enabling adipose tissue plasticity in response to various metabolic cues. Effective control of mitochondrial function at the cellular level, not only in thermogenic brown and beige adipocytes but also in energy-storing white adipocytes, exerts a profound influence on adipose homeostasis. Furthermore, mitochondria play a pivotal role in intercellular communication within adipose tissue via production of metabolites with signaling properties. A more comprehensive understanding of mitochondrial regulation within white adipocytes will empower the development of targeted and efficacious strategies to enhance adipose function, leading to advancements in overall metabolic health.

Participation of CCL1 in Snail-Positive Fibroblasts in Colorectal Cancer Contribute to 5-Fluorouracil/Paclitaxel Chemoresistance

        Ziqian Li,Kaying Chan,Yifei Qi,Linlin Lu,Fen Ning,Mengling Wu,Haifang Wang,Yuan Wang,Shaohui Cai,Jun Du 대한암학회 2018 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.50 No.3

Purpose Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) activated by cancer cells has a central role in development and malignant biological behavior in colorectal cancer (CRC). Adult fibroblasts do not express Snail, but Snail-positive fibroblasts are discovered in the stroma of malignant CRC and reported to be the key role to chemoresistance. However, the reciprocal effect of CAFs expressed Snail to chemoresistance on CRC cells and the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully characterized. Materials and Methods Snail-overexpressed 3T3 stable cell lines were generated by lipidosome and CT26 mixed with 3T3-Snail subcutaneous transplanted CRC models were established by subcutaneous injection. Cell Counting Kit-8, flow cytometry and western blotting assays were performed, and immunohistochemistry staining was studied. The cytokines participated in chemoresistance was validated with reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and heatmap. Results Snail-expression fibroblasts are discovered in human and mouse spontaneous CRCs. Overexpression of Snail induces 3T3 fibroblasts transdifferentiation to CAFs. CT26 co-cultured with 3T3-Snail resisted the impairment from 5-fluorouracil and paclitaxel in vitro. The subcutaneous transplanted tumor models included 3T3-Snail cells develop without restrictions even after treating with 5-fluorouracil or paclitaxel. Moreover, these chemoresistant processes may be mediated by CCL1 secreted by Snail-expression fibroblasts via transforming growth factor /nuclear factor-B signaling pathways. Conclusion Taken together, Snail-expressing 3T3 fibroblasts display CAFs properties that support 5-fluorouracil and paclitaxel chemoresistance in CRC via participation of CCL1 and suggest that inhibition of the Snail-expression fibroblasts in tumor may be a useful strategy to limit chemoresistance.

Regeneration of fat cells from myofibroblasts during wound healing

        Plikus, Maksim V.,Guerrero-Juarez, Christian F.,Ito, Mayumi,Li, Yun Rose,Dedhia, Priya H.,Zheng, Ying,Shao, Mengle,Gay, Denise L.,Ramos, Raul,Hsi, Tsai-Ching,Oh, Ji Won,Wang, Xiaojie,Ramirez, Amanda,K American Association for the Advancement of Scienc 2017 Science Vol.355 No.6326

<P>Although regeneration through the reprogramming of one cell lineage to another occurs in fish and amphibians, it has not been observed in mammals. We discovered in the mouse that during wound healing, adipocytes regenerate from myofibroblasts, a cell type thought to be differentiated and nonadipogenic. Myofibroblast reprogramming required neogenic hair follicles, which triggered bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling and then activation of adipocyte transcription factors expressed during development. Overexpression of the BMP antagonist Noggin in hair follicles or deletion of the BMP receptor in myofibroblasts prevented adipocyte formation. Adipocytes formed from human keloid fibroblasts either when treated with BMP or when placed with human hair follicles in vitro. Thus, we identify the myofibroblast as a plastic cell type that may be manipulated to treat scars in humans.</P>
