Acinar cystic transformation of the pancreas is also known as acinar cell cystadenoma (ACC), and this is an extremely rare benign lesion that was fi rst described in April 2002. We report here on a case of a previously asymptomatic patient with pancreatic ACC and this was diagnosed by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). To the best of our knowledge, there is no previous report concerning the CT or MRI features of ACC in the medical literature. We present here the CT, MRI and pathological fi ndings of pancreatic ACC.

Mehmet Dincel,Hasan Onder Gumus,Selcuk Erkaya,Bulent Kesim,Halil İbrahim Kılınc 대한치과보철학회 2014 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.6 No.4
PURPOSE This study was to evaluate the effect of grinding of the inner metal surface during the porcelain try-in stage on metal-porcelain bonding considering the maximum temperature and the vibration of samples. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety-one square prism-shaped (1 × 1 × 1.5 mm) nickel-chrome cast frameworks 0.3 mm thick were prepared. Porcelain was applied on two opposite outer axial surfaces of the frameworks. The grinding was performed from the opposite axial sides of the inner metal surfaces with a low-speed handpiece with two types of burs (diamond, tungsten-carbide) under three grinding forces (3.5 N, 7 N, 14 N) and at two durations (5 seconds, 10 seconds). The shear bond strength (SBS) test was performed with universal testing machine. Statistical analyzes were performed at 5% significance level. RESULTS The samples subjected to grinding under 3.5 N showed higher SBS values than those exposed to grinding under 7 N and 14 N (P<.05). SBS values of none of the groups differed from those of the control group (P>.05). The types of bur (P=.965) and the duration (P=.679) did not affect the SBS values. On the other hand, type of bur, force applied, and duration of the grinding affected the maximum temperatures of the samples, whereas the maximum vibration was affected only by the type of bur (P<.05). CONCLUSION Grinding the inner metal surface did not affect the metal-porcelain bond strength. Although the grinding affected the maximum temperature and the vibration values of the samples, these did not influence the bonding strength.

Purpose: Oncoplastic surgery (OPS) has been developed with the aim of improving breast-conserving surgery (BCS) to provide better aesthetic and functional outcomes for breast cancer patients. We aimed to compare overall quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with breast reconstruction in patients undergoing BCS and OPS using the Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (QLQ-C30) and recently validated QLQ-Breast Reconstruction module (QLQ-BRECON23). Methods: A total of 87 patients were included in this single-center study between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2021; 43 underwent OPS (49.4%) and 44 underwent BCS (50.6%). The data on patient, tumor, and treatment characteristics were obtained from the prospectively collected database at the hospital. QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BRECON23 were used to evaluate psychosocial well-being, fatigue symptoms, overall QoL, sexual well-being, sensation of the operative area, and satisfaction with the reconstruction. Results: According to QLQ-C30 evaluation there were significantly better outcomes for patients treated with OPS than BCS in terms of psychosocial well-being, fatigue symptoms, and overall QoL (P = 0.005, P = 0.016, and P = 0.004; respectively), according to QLQ-BRECON23 evaluation there were also significantly better outcomes in terms of sexual well-being, sensation of the operative area, and satisfaction of the reconstruction (P < 0.001, P = 0.002, and P < 0.001; respectively). Conclusion: We found that the overall QoL and satisfaction with breast reconstruction in patients undergoing OPS are better than those undergoing BCS. Our study is critical because it is the first study comparing OPS and BCS using the QLQ- BRECON23, which was recently validated.

Background: To evaluate the results of various types of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatment of renal tumors in patients with excessive anesthetic and surgical risk. Materials and Methods: Data for RFA performed in in high risk patients were retrospectively evaluated. Other RFA applications in patients with no anesthetic and/or surgical risk were excluded. RFA was by ultrasound or CT guided percutaneous (USG/CT-PRFA) and retroperitoneally or transperitoneally laparoscopic (R/T-LRFA) techniques under general or local anethesia. Follow-up data of enhanced CT or MRI after 1, 3 and 6 months were analysed for twelve RFA applications. Results: The RFA applications included 4 (40%) left-sided, 5 (50%) right-sided and 1 (10%) bilaterally RFA (simultaneously 1 right and 2 left). The localizations of tumors were 2 (16.6%) upper, 5 (41.6%) mid and 5 (41.6%) lower pole. The RFA applications included 9 (75%) USG-PRFA, 1 (8.3%) CT-PRFA, 1 (8.3%) T-LRFA and 1 (8.3%) R-LRFA. The mean age was $65.3{\pm}8.5$ (52-76) years. The mean tumor size was $29.6{\pm}6.08$ (15-40) mm. No complications related to the RFA were encountered in any of the cases. Failure (residual tumour) was determined in 8.3% (1/12) of USG-RFA application. The success rate was thus 91.7% (11/12). Other 1st, 3rd and 6th months follow-up data revealed no residua and recurrence. Conclusions: RFA application appears to be safe as a less invasive and effective treatment modality in selected cases of small renal tumors in individuals with excessive anesthetic and also surgical risk.

Aim: To evaluate efficacy and tolerability of topotecan treatment for recurrent small cell lung carcinoma. Patients and Methods: A total of 62 patients were evaluated retrospectively. Statistical analysis was performed using GraphPad Instat (version 3.05). Results: DFifty five of patients (89%) were male and 7 (11%) were female. Median age was $56.7{\pm}9.3$ (34-75). Forty eight of patients (80%) were extensive stage (ES) at the time of diagnosis. Fifty of the patients (80.6 Medical Oncology Clinic) were given median 5.36 cycles of cisplatin-etoposide (2-8 cycles). Time to recurrence was $15.6{\pm}6.13$ weeks in patients with limited stage (LS) and $6.3{\pm}3.82$ weeks in extensive stage (ES) (p<0.0001). Overall survival was $14.0{\pm}6.08$ months in ES and $17.9{\pm}6.88$ months in LS. The difference between two groups was statistically meaningful (p=0.0447). The overall survival of the patients was $14.8{\pm}6.43$ months (4.5-40 months). In terms of survival, there was no difference between males and females (p=0.1171). In 17 (27%) patients who were refractory to topotecan or in whom progression occurred other chemotherapies were used. Conclusion: Small cell lung cancer is chemosensitive, but recurrences occur in short time. Other chemotherapy regimens are used in progression. Topotecan is one of them. Patients who were young and in whom recurrences occur late had given better response to topotecan. Because of the retrospective nature of the study, we couldn't reach the records exactly and consequently, rate and duration of response couldn't be calculated. In recurrent SCLC topotecan is one of the treatment choices. But both hematological and non hematological side effects should be taken into consideration.

Akbas, Esvet,Levent, Abdulkadir,Gumus, Selcuk,Sumer, Mehmet Rauf,Akyazi, Inci Korean Chemical Society 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.12
2-Iminopyrimidines (1a-e) and 2-thioxopyrimidine (2) were synthesized using the Biginelli three component cyclocondensation reaction of an appropriate $\beta$-diketone, arylaldehyde, and guanidine (for 1a-e) or thiourea (for 2). The electrochemical properties of the novel systems were investigated by CV and DPV. Moreover, B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) method was applied to the present structures in order to gather some structural and physicochemical data.
Effect of Gamma-Irradiation on Some Chemical Characteristics and Volatile Content of Linseed
Hasan Yalcin,Ismet Ozturk,Mehmet Hayta,Osman Sagdic,Tuncay Gumus 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.10
The effect of irradiation (2.5, 4.0, 5.5, and 7.0 kGy) on chemical properties and volatile contents of linseed was investigated. Consistent decreases were observed in both protein and oil content of the irradiated linseed samples with increasing irradiation doses. The ash content of the irradiated linseed samples increased significantly (P<.05) with increasing irradiation doses except for 5.5 kGy. Irradiation treatment caused irregular changes in palmitic and stearic acid content. Although styrene and p-xylene content decreased as a result of irradiation, 1-hexanol content only decreased at 7.0 kGy. Benzaldehyde, p-cymene, and nonanol were not determined at irradiation doses above 4.0 kGy
