      • Nω-Nitro-L-Arginine Methylester Ameliorates Myocardial Toxicity Induced by Doxorubicin

Mansour, Mahmoud Ahmed,El-Din, Ayman Gamal,Nagi, Mahmoud N.,Al-Shabanah, Othman A.,Al-Bekairi, Abdullah M. Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 2003 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.36 No.6

The effects of $N{\omega}$-nitro-L-arginine methylester (L-NAME) and L-arginine on cardiotoxicity that is induced by doxorubicin (Dox) were investigated. A single dose of Dox 15 mg/kg i.p. induced cardiotoxicity, manifested biochemically by a significant elevation of serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) activity [EC 2.7.3.2]. Moreover, cardiotoxicity was further confirmed by a significant increase in lipid peroxides, measured as malon-di-aldehyde (MDA) in cardiac tissue homogenates. The administration of L-NAME 4 mg/kg/d p.o. in drinking water 5 days before and 3 days after the Dox injection significantly ameliorated the cardiotoxic effects of Dox, judged by the improvement in both serum CPK activity and lipid peroxides in the cardiac tissue homogenates. On the other hand, the administration of L-arginine 70 mg/kg/d p.o. did not protect the cardiac tissues against the toxicity that was induced by the Dox treatment. The findings of this study suggest that L-NAME can attenuate the cardiac dysfunction that is produced by the Dox treatment via the mechanism(s), which may involve the inhibition of the nitric oxide (NO) formation. L-NAME may, therefore, be a beneficial remedy for cardiotoxicity that is induced by Dox and can then be used to improve the therapeutic index of Dox.

Experimental Study of the Flexural Behaviour of RC Beams Made of Eco-friendly Sawdust Concrete and Strengthened by a Wooden Plate

        Ahmed M. Maglad,Walid Mansour,Sabry Fayed,Bassam A. Tayeh,Ahmed M. Yosri,M. Hamad 한국콘크리트학회 2023 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.17 No.6

In this paper, the effectiveness of the strengthening by a wooden plate for reinforced concrete (RC) beams that incorporate waste sawdust (SD) as a partial substitute for fine aggregate (sand) has been investigated. To this end, two types of concrete mixtures were made: normal concrete (NC) and sawdust concrete (SDC), which was made by substituting 15% of the volume of sand with SD. Five RC beams (100 mm in depth, 200 mm in width, and 1500 mm in length) were experimentally tested for flexural behavior under four-point loading. Three strengthening schemes were used in this study. The first scheme used a wooden plate that was only fixed by an adhesive layer. The second and third schemes were applied by a wooden plate, which was fixed by an adhesive layer and steel angles (two and eleven angles). The findings of the study indicate that although the concrete's workability, compressive, and splitting tensile strengths were reduced with the addition of SD, the ultimate load of the beam with SD was lower than that of the control beam, with a slight variation of approximately 4%. Moreover, strengthening the RC beam with a wooden plate and two steel angles yielded the highest load capacity among all tested beams, 20% higher than the control specimen. The study's findings offered useful information for developing eco-friendly sawdust concrete beams with efficient strengthening techniques for potential future uses.

Synthesis and Antiproliferative Potency within Anticonvulsant of Novel Bichalcone Derivatives

        Mansour, Eman,El-Badry, Yaser A.,El-Tokhy, Afaf,Ayyad, Rezed,Abd-Rabou, Ahmed A. Korean Chemical Society 2020 대한화학회지 Vol.64 No.1

An efficient and facile procedure has been developed for the synthesis of novel bichalcone derivatives (4a, 4b). The key step contains the solvent-free aldol synthesis of bichalcones based on quinones. Bichalcones (4a, 4b) were used as precursors for the synthesis of some interesting heterocyclic compounds like, diazepines (5a, 5b), pyrazolo-pyrimidines (7a, 7b), and pyrazoline derivatives (8a, 8b). Moreover, new thioxopyrimidine derivatives (9a, 9b) were furnished and used as a functionalizing agent to produce the triazole-pyrimidines (11, 12) and the carbonitrile derivative (14). All the synthesized compounds were fully characterized using physical and spectral data like, FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS. Bichalcones (4a, 4b) and diazepines (5a, 5b) were screened for their anticonvulsant activity, where compounds (4a, 5a, and 5b) revealed potent anticonvulsant activity compared to diazepam. On the other hand, some of the prepared compounds were screened for their antiproliferative activity and they showed significant cytotoxic effects on most of the cancer cell lines with regard to broad spectrum antitumor activity.

Simplified methods of the 3D-SVPWM for four-wire three-leg inverter

Awad, Fathy H.,Mansour, Ahmed A.,Marei, Mostafa I.,El-Sattar, Ahmed A. The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2020 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.20 No.6

This paper introduces a novel technique for simplification of a three-dimension space vector pulse width modulation (3D-SVPWM). Conventional SVPWM calculations are based on trigonometric functions or several decomposition matrices. Thus, a very fast embedded controller is needed either for two-dimension space vector pulse width modulation (2D-SVPWM) or 3D-SVPWM. The proposed simplified 3D-SVPWM is dedicated to four-wire three-leg inverters. This technique is based on first-order equations of the curve fitting technique to reduce calculation time. Therefore, this method can be implemented with low memory storage and Central Processing Unit (CPU) capability. In addition, high accuracy can be achieved using higher-order equations. Many approaches are introduced for simplifications. The applications of the proposed simplified 3D-SVPWM method are also provided. Simulation results of the proposed simplified 3D-SVPWM and the conventional 3D-SVPWM are discussed. Finally, the results are verified using a real-time simulator based on Typhoon device (402) as Hardware-In-the-Loop. In addition, the controller of the simplified method is implemented and operated on the C2000 LAUNCHXL-F28379D as a low-cost microcontroller kit.

      • A Novel Authentication Scheme for Lossy Compressed Images

Mona A. M. Fouad,Ahmed Mokhtar A. Mansour 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.6

In this paper, a novel scheme is proposed for watermarking lossy compressed images just before transmission and authenticating them once they are received, away from the core of the compression and de-compression processes. The scheme is inserted into the Joint Photographic Expert Group (JPEG) structure that is encoded using the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) at specified locations. The watermark information is extracted from and embedded into specified DCT coefficients, following novel criteria. The scheme is robust to lossy compression; though it is fragile, exposing any slight changes of the probe images. The scheme is also blind, needs no prior information about the original image or the watermark information to authenticate the received image. Experimentally, if the received watermarked data is not manipulated, the proposed scheme verifies them as ‘authenticated’. On the other side, if geometrical or image processing attacks are applied to the watermarked images, they are then verified successfully as ‘not authenticated’. The proposed scheme is further evaluated and compared to similar authentication schemes. The noise added to the original image due to embedding the watermark information is 0.063 dB (decibel), overcoming all results in the reviewed literature.

Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Fracture Characteristics of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Recycled Aggregate Concrete

        Ahmed M. Maglad,Walid Mansour,Bassam A. Tayeh,Mohamed Elmasry,Ahmed M. Yosri,Sabry Fayed 한국콘크리트학회 2024 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.18 No.1

Fracture parameters of fiber concrete (FC) are currently a hot research area. Fracture mechanics is the field of solid mechanics that helps to study the type and propagation of cracks in materials. It uses methods of calculating the driving force on a crack and characterizes the material's resistance to fracture. Behavioral characteristics are determined by crack mouth opening displacement and the load–deflection method. This research identifies the fracture parameters of 33 notched simply supported beams made by recycled aggregate cement concrete with steel fiber. The recycled aggregate ratio in concrete has been altered to determine the effect on the mechanical and fracture properties. For determining fracture parameters, a 3-point bending single-edge notched fracture test was used. The results indicated that the steel fiber-reinforced concrete made with recycled aggregate showed similar performance and fracture characteristics compared to normal concrete. Thus, adding steel fibers to various concrete mixes considerably improved the fracture characteristics, while the brittleness was reduced with increased steel fiber content. Linear regression analysis also showed the accuracy of mechanical strength results as the value of R-square was close to unity. Displacement, ultimate load, brittleness (B), fracture toughness (KIC), crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD), fracture energy (GF), modulus of elasticity (E), and characteristic length (lch), were determined for both conventional and recycled aggregate specimens. The “work of fracture"—by definition the formula—is the most reliable to calculate the fracture energy as the nonlinearity is related to the performance of FC.

      • ‘Hop Horse’ Image Authentication Scheme

        Mona A. M. Fouad,Ahmed Mokhtar A. Mansour 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.10 No.5

This paper proposes a novel scheme for securing and authenticating digital data. Although, the experiments were applied to digital images, it is valid for sound, and video without any modifications of the core scheme. The developed scheme could be applied to the encoded data at the sender and the receiver sides, apart from the compression and decompression processes. The watermark information is generated automatically from the input data and hidden into the Least Significant Bits (LSBs) of specified pixels according to innovative criteria. Experimentally, the received data is authenticated if it is 100% match the sent data, exposing both geometric and signal processing attacks. The hidden watermark is completely invisible, achieving Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) more than 67 decibels (dB) for grayscale images that vary in size and content. The developed scheme is evaluated by verifying images of the testing set before and after tampering, showing comparable performance. A comprehensive analysis for the experimental results revealed performance and efficiency of the proposed scheme is presented. An extensive review of previous work concerning image authentication approaches is presented, showing the need for robust and powerful authentication scheme.

      • Significance of Rumex Vesicarius as Anticancer Remedy Against Hepatocellular Carcinoma: a Proposal-Based on Experimental Animal Studies

Shahat, Abdelaaty A,Alsaid, Mansour S,Kotob, Soheir E,Ahmed, Hanaa H Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.10

Rumex vesicarius is an edible herb distributed in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The whole plant has significant value in folk medicine and it has been used to alleviate several diseases. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the major primary malignant tumor of the liver, is one of the most life-threatening human cancers. The goal of the current study was to explore the potent role of Rumex vesicarius extract against HCC induced in rats. Thirty adult male albino rats were divided into 3 groups: (I): Healthy animals received orally 0.9 % normal saline and served as negative control group, (II): HCC group in which rats were orally administered N-nitrosodiethylamine NDEA, (III): HCC group treated orally with R. vesicarius extract in a dose of 400 mg/kg b.wt daily for two months. ALT and AST, ALP and ${\gamma}$-GT activities were estimated. CEA, AFP, AFU, GPC-3, Gp-73 and VEGF levels were quantified. Histopathological examination of liver tissue sections was also carried out. The results of the current study showed that the treatment of the HCC group with R. vesicarius extract reversed the significant increase in liver enzymes activity, CEA, AFP, AFU, glypican 3, golgi 73 and VEGF levels in serum as compared to HCC-untreated counterparts. In addition, the favorable impact of R. vesicarius treatment was evidenced by the marked improvement in the histopathological features of the liver of the treated group. In conclusion, the present experimental setting provided evidence for the significance of R. vesicarius as anticancer candidate with a promising anticancer potential against HCC. The powerful hepatoprotective properties, the potent antiangiogenic activity and the effective antiproliferative capacity are responsible for the anticancer effect of this plant.
