      • Zn-modified mesoporous Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> for CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation to methanol

        For the reduction of atmospheric CO<sub>2</sub> emission, considerable achievements have been made in CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation to various chemicals such as alcohols, lower olefins and fuels. However, the synthesis of aromatics from one-pass CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation is still a great challenge owing to the extreme inertness of CO<sub>2</sub> and higher C-C coupling barrier. Therefore, the mesoporous Zn/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> by varying Zn content was investigated for the CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation to methanol and dimethyl ether (DME). At a relatively higher temperature, ZnO and ZnAl<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub> were active for CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation and Lewis acidic Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> sites were active for methanol dehydration to DME. Furthermore, Zn/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> in combination with HZSM-5 was prepared to directly synthesize aromatics from oxygenates formed by CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation.

        Preparation of multi-walled carbon nanotube incorporated MIL-53-Cu composite metal–organic framework with enhanced methane sorption

        Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) incorporated MIL-53-Cu composite MOF material (MWCNT@MIL-53-Cu) has been synthesized by adding purified multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) in situ during the synthesis of MIL-53-Cu. Resulting sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmet–Teller (BET), and FT-IR analysis. Methane sorption capacities of MIL-53-Cu were observed to increase from 8.52 to 13.72 mmol g-1 at 298 K and 35 bar. The increment in the methane uptake capacities of composite MOF materials was attributed to the decrease in the pore size and enhancement of micropore volume of MIL-53-Cu by multi-walled carbon nanotube incorporation.

        Examination of trunk muscle co-activation during prolonged sitting in healthy adults and adults with non-specific chronic low back pain based on the O’Sullivan Classification System

        Objective: Non-specific chronic low back pain (NS-CLBP) has been related to abnormal trunk muscle activations, but literature reported considerable variability in muscle amplitudes of NS-CLBP patients during prolonged sitting periods. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the differences among homogenous NS-CLBP subgroups in muscle activity, using muscle co-contraction indices as a more objective approach, and their roles on pain development during a 1-hour period of prolonged sitting. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty NS-CLBP subjects with motor control impairment (MCI) [10 classified as having flexion pattern disorder, and 10 with active extension pattern disorder], and 10 healthy controls participated in the study. Subjects followed a 1-hour sitting protocol on a standard office chair. Four trunk muscle activities including amplitudes and co-contraction indices were recorded using electromyography over the 1-hour period. Perceived back pain intensity was recorded using a numeric pain rating scale every 10 minutes throughout the sitting period. Results: All study groups presented with no significantly distinctive trunk muscle activities at the beginning of sitting, nor did they change over time when pain increased to a significant level. Both MCI subgroups reported a similarly significant increase in pain behavior through mid-sitting (p<0.001). However, after mid-sitting, they significantly differed from each other in pain (p<0.01) but did not differ in the levels of muscle activation. Conclusions: This study was the first to highlight the similarities in trunk muscle activities among homogenous NS-CLBP patients related to MCI and compared them to healthy controls while sitting for an extended period of time, and the significant increase in pain over the 1-hour sitting might not be attributed to trunk muscle activation.

      • Factors influencing use of institutional delivery services in rural Bangladesh

        Background Institutional delivery is very important in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality; however, several women deliver outside of health facilities in Bangladesh. Therefore, objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of institutional deliveries and identify factors influencing institutional deliveries among women in rural Bangladesh. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study from August to September 2015 was conducted with women who gave birth in the last two years prior to the study in Kurigram District, Rangpur division, Bangladesh. Using a stratified sampling method, a total of 348 participants were enrolled in the study. Data were collected via pretested standardized questionnaire. Using SPSS version 21, chi-square and binary logistic regression analyses were carried out to determine factors influencing use of institutional delivery services. Results Among 348 participating women (mean age: 24.36 ± 4.18), it was found that only 83 (23.9%) went for institutional delivery and the remaining 76.1% delivered in home. Reasons for home delivery included: feeling embarrassed in hospital (92.8%), more comfortable at home (83.8%), long distance to health facility (46.4%) and high costs in hospital (38.1%). The factors significantly influencing institutional delivery included women’ s education (OR: 9.859; p=0.036), knowledge of institutional delivery services (OR: 8.064; p=0.007), women,s knowledge about danger signs of pregnancy (OR: 47.35; p〈0.000), pregnancy related complications (OR: 5.182; p〈0.000), and four or more antenatal care (ANG) visits (OR: 4.627; p=0.049). Conclusions This study found very low prevalence of skilled institutional delivery in rural Bangladesh. Findings of the study suggest that number of ANG visits, women’ s education and knowledge on pregnancy and delivery services can play very crucial role to increase the uptake of institutional delivery services. Health policies, health promotion and education programs should focus on these factors in order to reduce the number of preventable maternal and neonatal deaths. Efforts from different sections of the society using multisectoral approach can help in improving the maternal, newborn and child health.

        Outcomes of Primary Unilateral Cheiloplasty in Same-Day Surgical Settings

        Background Financial, clinical, and psychological considerations have made same-day surgery an attractive option for a variety of procedures. This article aimed to analyse the postoperative results of same-day primary unilateral cleft nasolabial repair. Methods This study was performed from 2011 to 2014. Unilateral cleft lip patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were preoperatively classified as mild, moderate, and severe. All patients underwent same-day surgery and were discharged after satisfying the appropriate clinical criteria, receiving thorough counselling, and the establishment of a means of communication by phone. Postoperative outcomes were assessed and stratified according to preoperative severity and the type of repair. Results A total of 423 primary unilateral cleft lip patients were included. Fisher’s anatomical subunit approximation technique was the most common procedure, followed by Noordhoff’s technique. The postoperative outcome was good in 89.8% of cases, fair in 9.9% of cases, and poor in 0.2% of cases. The complication rate was 1.18% (n=5), and no instances of mortality were observed. The average hospital stay was 7.5 hours, leading to a cost reduction of 19% in comparison with patients who stayed overnight for observation. Conclusions Mild unilateral cleft lip was the most common deformity for which Fisher’s anatomical subunit approximation technique was performed in most of the cases, with satisfactory postoperative outcomes. Refinements in the cleft rhinoplasty techniques over the course of the study improved the results regarding cleft nasal symmetry. Single-day primary unilateral cleft cheiloplasty was found to be a cost-effective procedure that did not pose an additional risk of complications.

        The PNPLA3 rs738409 Variant but not MBOAT7 rs641738 is a Risk Factor for Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Obese U.S. Children of Hispanic Ethnicity

        Purpose: The rs641738 C>T in membrane-bound O-acyltransferase domain-containing protein 7 (MBOAT7) is implicated, along with the rs738409 C>G polymorphism in patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3), in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The association of these polymorphisms and NAFLD are investigated in Hispanic children with obesity. Methods: Obese children with and without NAFLD were enrolled at a pediatric tertiary care health system and genotyped for MBOAT7 rs641738 C>T and PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G. NAFLD was characterized by the ultrasonographic presence of hepatic steatosis along with persistently elevated liver enzymes. Genetic variants and demographic and biochemical data were analyzed for the effects on NAFLD. Results: Among 126 enrolled subjects, 84 in the case group had NAFLD and 42 in the control group did not. The two groups had similar demographic distribution. NAFLD was associated with abnormal liver enzymes and elevated triglycerides and cholesterol (p<0.05). Children with NAFLD had higher percentage of PNPLA3 GG genotype at 70.2% versus 31.0% in non-NAFLD, and lower MBOAT7 TT genotype at 4.8% versus 16.7% in non-NAFLD (p<0.05). PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G had an additive effect in NAFLD; however, MBOAT7 rs641738 C>T had no effects alone or synergistically with PNPLA3 polymorphism. NAFLD risk increased 3.7-fold in subjects carrying PNPLA3 GG genotype and decreased in MBOAT7 TT genotype. Conclusion: In Hispanic children with obesity, PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G polymorphism increased the risk for NAFLD. The role of MBOAT7 rs641738 variant in NAFLD is less evident.

        Oral Delivery of Mono-PEGylated sCT (Lys 18 ) in Rats: Regional Difference in Stability and Hypocalcemic Effect

        <P>In the in vitro experiment using a luminal, mucosal, and fecal fluid/extract from jejunum and colon of a rat, Lys 18 -residue modified mono-PEG 2k -sCT (Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT) exhibited a longer half-life than salmon calcitonin (sCT) in a colonic fluid and its extract. A physical adsorption study showed that Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT had lower adsorption in the feces than sCT over an 8-hr period. An absorption study of the sCT and Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT from the jejunum and colon using an in situ closed-loop technique in anesthetized rats showed a dose-dependent reduction in the plasma Ca 2 + level but to a certain limit. Furthermore, the hypocalcemic response by intracolonic administration was significantly higher than the intrajejunal one, demonstrating that the colon had better absorption. In particular, Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT (5 µg/rats) produced the most pronounced hypocalcemia after the intracolonic administration, which resulted in a sustained reduction in the serum calcium level over an 8-hr period, with a maximum reduction (% max d ) of 38% after 4 hr. The overall reduction in the serum calcium levels, which was expressed as the net change in the AUC relative to the control over an 8-hr period, was 25.51 ± 3.38 for Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT. The relative pharmacological bioavailability of the intracolonically administered Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT was 2.1-fold higher than sCT and the absolute pharmacological bioavailability was 73.59% of IV-injected sCT in an 8-hr period. Overall, this study highlights the feasibility of the oral delivery of Lys 18 -PEG 2K -sCT in achieving a sustained calcium-lowering effect.</P>

        Derivers of green buying behavior for organic skincare products through an interplay of green brand evaluation and green advertisement

        Considering the climate issues, there is a need to investigate the various motivators and triggering factors influencing consumers’ green buying behaviors. The current study examines the influence of green brand knowledge and credibility on the consumers’ green brand evaluation, leading to their green buying behavior. Moreover, the moderating role of green advertising on consumers’ green brand evaluation has been assessed. Surveying 587 organic skincare product consumers via time-lagged research design, data were analyzed using measurement and structural models employing SmartPLS software. Results showed the positive and significant direct and indirect influence of consumers’ green brand knowledge and credibility on their green buying behavior via green brand evaluation as a mediator. Besides, this study is incremental in presenting the significant moderating role of green advertisement to augment consumers’ positive evaluation of green brands that further influence their green buying behaviors while purchasing skincare products.

        Sorption of methane, hydrogen and carbon dioxide on metal-organic framework,iron terephthalate (MOF-235)

        Iron terephthalate, MOF-235, metal-organic framework synthesized hydrothermally and was used for gas adsorption. Resulting sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmet–Teller (BET) and FT-IR analysis. Adsorption properties of CH4, H2 and CO2 on MOF-235 were investigated by volumetric measurements. The absolute adsorption capacity was found in the order of CH4 >> H2 > CO2. The high CH4 adsorption capacity of MOF-235 was attributed to the high pore volume and large number of open metal sites. The high selectivity for CH4 over CO2 (14.7) and H2 (8.3), suggests that MOF-235 is a potential adsorbent for the separation of CH4 from gas mixtures.

        Synthesis and characterization of nanocomposite MCM-48-PEHA-DEA and its application as CO2 adsorbent

        Three nanocomposites containing MCM-48-35PEHA-15DEA (35 and 15 as weight percent of amine addition),MCM-48-30PEHA-20DEA and MCM-48-25PEHA-25DEA of mesoporous silica MCM-48 modified by the mixture of pentaethylenehexamine (PEHA) and diethanolamine (DEA) have been synthesized and used to study the adsorption of carbon dioxide (CO2). They are characterized by low angle x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) analysis. MCM-48-35PEHA-15DEA (as optimized adsorbent)shows CO2 adsorption capacity of 0.51 (m·mol CO2/g-adsorbent) at 1 bar and 298 K, much higher than CO2 adsorption capacity on polyethyleneimine, pyrrolidinepropyl and polymerized aminopropyl loaded MCM-48.
