Chicken serum uric acid level is regulated by glucose transporter 9

        Ding Xuedong,Peng Chenglu,Li Siting,Li Manman,Li Xinlu,Wang Zhi,Li Yu,Wang Xichun,Li Jinchun,wu Jinjie 아세아·태평양축산학회 2021 Animal Bioscience Vol.34 No.4

Objective: Glucose transporter 9 (GLUT9) is a uric acid transporter that is associated with uric absorption in mice and humans; but it is unknown whether GLUT9 involves in chicken uric acid regulation. This experiment aimed to investigate the chicken GLUT9 expression and serum uric acid (SUA) level. Methods: Sixty chickens were divided into 4 groups (n = 15): a control group (NC); a sulfonamide-treated group (SD) supplemented with sulfamonomethoxine sodium via drinking water (8 mg/L); a fishmeal group (FM) supplemented with 16% fishmeal in diet; and a uric acid-injection group (IU), where uric acid (250 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally injected once a day. The serum was collected weekly to detect the SUA level. Liver, kidney, jejunum, and ileum tissues were collected to detect the GLUT9 mRNA and protein expression. Results: The results showed in the SD and IU groups, the SUA level increased and GLUT9 expression increased in the liver, but decreased in the kidney, jejunum, and ileum. In the FM group, the SUA level decreased slightly and GLUT9 expression increased in the kidney, but decreased in the liver, jejunum, and ileum. Correlation analysis revealed that liver GLUT9 expression correlated positively, and renal GLUT9 expression correlated negatively with the SUA level. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that there may be a feedback regulation of GLUT9 in the chicken liver and kidney to maintain the SUA balance; however, the underlying mechanism needs to be investigated in future studies. Nuclear DNA content variation of three Miscanthus species in China

        Xi Li,Die Hu,Manman Luo,Ming Zhu,Xinwei Li,Fan Luo,Jianqiang Li,Juan Yan 한국유전학회 2013 Genes & Genomics Vol.35 No.1

In order to estimate the variation in nuclear genome size in Miscanthus, flow cytometry of nuclei stained by propidium iodide was carried out using 36 populations of three Miscanthus species: M. lutarioriparius, M. sacchariflorus and M. sinensis, which were sampled from cold northern to warm and humid southern and central China, as well as near the sea level in eastern China to mountains in western China. The DNA content of diploid was 4.37 ±0.02 pg/2C in M. lutarioriparius, 4.37 ± 0.01 pg/2C in M. sacchariflorus, and 5.37 ± 0.03 pg/2C in M. sinensis, respectively. There was no intraspecific variation in the three Miscanthus species at the diploid level, suggesting that the genome size was stable within species and the diverse environments did not induce variation in genome size at the diploid level. However, tetraploid populations were found in M. lutarioriparius and M. sacchariflorus, and their genome sizes were 8.56 and 8.54 pg, respectively, which are lower than expected values (8.74 pg), indicating the genome downsizing after polyploidization in the genus. Our results showed that the plant height of M. lutarioriparius was the highest one among the three species and the species was more closely related to M. sacchariflorus than M. sinensis. The intra-species genomic variation and inter-species differentiation in Miscanthus species provide important genetic and genomic information for the development of Miscanthus, especially for the endemic species, M. lutarioriparius,(together with Miscanthus 9 giganteus) which are now emerging as a key bio-energy crop because of their high yields and strong adaptability.

Nonlinear Control of Heterogeneous Vehicle Platoon with Time-varying Delays and Limited Communication Range

        Haifeng Li,Zhenping Chen,Baochuan Fu,Manman Sun 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.6

Vehicle platooning can significantly increase throughput of transportation, while the impairment of communication may affect the control performance of vehicle platooning. Communication delays are inevitable in the process of driving, which will cause the instability of the platoon. Moreover, the transmission power level between vehicles is finite, resulting in a limited communication range. A nonlinear control algorithm is proposed where the car-following interactions between vehicles are considered. First, a third-order heterogeneous dynamic model is established for vehicles in the platoon. The control gains and parameters are heterogeneous. Then considering the constant time headway spacing policy and the gap supplement, conditions of the control gains for maintaining the internal stability of the platoon are obtained. Second, with time-varying communication delays taken into account, the allowed upper bound of communication delays is derived. Third, given the ability of each vehicle to receive information from multiple predecessors and followers, conditions of string stability are obtained, where the communication range is limited. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

China’s Economic Policy Uncertainty Shocks and South Korea’s Exports: A TVP-VAR Approach with an SMSS Structure

        Lin Liu,Manman Zhang,Wei Li 한국무역학회 2020 Journal of Korea trade Vol.24 No.4

Purpose - Since China has been South Korea’s biggest export destination, uncertainty shocks originating from it would influence South Korea’s exports. This paper evaluates the effects of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports to explore the transmission channels. Design/methodology - Incorporating endogeneities and nonlinearities, this study employs a quarterly time-varying parameters vector autoregressive model to investigate the relationships between China’s economic policy uncertainty and Korea’s exports, where the overparameterization due to time-varying specifications is overcome by a novel stochastic model specification search framework. According to previous theoretical studies, this paper assesses two channels, demand shock channel and exchange rate channel, through which foreign uncertainty affects Korea’s exports. This paper identifies the primary drivers of Korea’s aggregate exports and analyzes the rationales for the time-variant impacts of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports to China. Findings - Our empirical results reveal that Korea’s aggregate exports are less responsive to China’s economic policy uncertainty shocks and significantly move together with global demand. In contrast, its bilateral exports to China are highly responsive in a negative and time-variant way. Moreover, Chinese investment is an important channel through which China’s economic policy uncertainty affects Korea’s exports to China after 2010. Further, the time-variant effects of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports to China are related to changes in China’s foreign trade policies, global economic conditions, and China’s degree of economic freedom. Originality/value - Few previous studies touch the effects of external uncertainty shocks on South Korea’s exports. This paper attempts to fill this gap and explicitly investigate the impacts of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports from a time-varying perspective. As Korea is an export-oriented economy, this study provides insights for the Korean government to understand the transmissions of external uncertainty better.

Genetic architecture and candidate genes detected for chicken internal organ weight with a 600 K single nucleotide polymorphism array

        Taocun Dou,Manman Shen,Meng Ma,Liang Qu,Yongfeng Li,Yuping Hu,Jian Lu,Jun Guo,Xingguo Wang,Kehua Wang 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.3

Objective: Internal organs indirectly affect economic performance and well-being of animals. Study of internal organs during later layer period will allow full utilization of layer hens. Hence, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify potential quantitative trait loci or genes that potentially contribute to internal organ weight. Methods: A total of 1,512 chickens originating from White Leghorn and Dongxiang Blue-Shelled chickens were genotyped using high-density Affymetrix 600 K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array. We conducted a GWAS, linkage disequilibrium analysis, and heritability estimated based on SNP information by using GEMMA, Haploview and GCTA software. Results: Our results displayed that internal organ weights show moderate to high (0.283 to 0.640) heritability. Variance partitioned across chromosomes and chromosome lengths had a linear relationship for liver weight and gizzard weight (R2 = 0.493, 0.753). A total of 23 highly significant SNPs that associated with all internal organ weights were mainly located on Gallus gallus autosome (GGA) 1 and GGA4. Six SNPs on GGA2 affected heart weight. After the final analysis, five top SNPs were in or near genes 5-Hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A, general transcription factor IIF polypeptide 2, WD repeat and FYVE domain containing 2, non-SMC condensin I complex subunit G, and sonic hedgehog, which were considered as candidate genes having a pervasive role in internal organ weights. Conclusion: Our findings provide an understanding of the underlying genetic architecture of internal organs and are beneficial in the selection of chickens.

Surface Modification of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Ultrafiltration Membranes with Chitosan for Anti-Fouling and Antibacterial Performance

        Weiwei Xia,Manman Xie,Xia Feng,Li Chen,Yiping Zhao 한국고분자학회 2018 Macromolecular Research Vol.26 No.13

A graft copolymer (PVDF-g-PAA) having poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) backbones and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) side chains was synthesized using the radical polymerization method and the PVDF-g-PAA copolymer membrane was prepared via immersion phase inversion. Then the chitosan was immobilized on the surface of the copolymer membrane by covalent bond. The morphology, surface chemical structure and performance of the modified membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, water contact angle, permeation measurement, antifouling and antibacterial tests. The results showed that the contact angle of the modified membrane decreased, and the water flux increased from 37.74Lm-2h-1 for pure PVDF membrane to 119.43 Lm-2h-1, which indicated that the modified membrane had higher hydrophilicity than unmodified membrane. The modified membrane has better antifouling properties than pure PVDF membrane due to the increase of surface hydrophilicity, and the highest water flux recovery ratio can achieve 93.2%. Furthermore, the modified membrane showed good antibacterial activity (E. coli), and the maximum antibacterial ratio of the modified membrane was 89.6%.

      • Norcantharidin Anti-Angiogenesis Activity Possibly through an Endothelial Cell Pathway in Human Colorectal Cancer

        Yu, Tao,Hou, Fenggang,Liu, Manman,Zhou, Lihong,Li, Dan,Liu, Jianrong,Fan, Zhongze,Li, Qi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.2

The present study was based on the unexpected discovery that norcantharidin exerted anti-angiogenesis activity when effects on growth of human colon cancer were studied. The aim was to further verify this finding and explore possible mechanisms using a tumor xenograft model in nude mice. We confirmed that norcantharidin (5 or 15 mg/kg) could inhibit angiogenesis of human colon cancer in vivo. In vitro, crossing river assay, cell adhesion assay and tube formation assay indicated that NCTD could reduce the migration, adhesion and vascular network tube formation ability of HUVECs. At the same time, the expression levels of VEGF and VEGFR-2 proteins which play important roles in angiogenesis were reduced as examined by western blotting analysis. Taken together, the results firstly showed NCTD could inhibit angiogenesis of human colon cancer in vivo, probably associated with effects on migration, adhesion and vascular network tube formation of HUVECs and expression levels of VEGF and VEGFR-2 proteins.
