Port logistics service quality and customer satisfaction: Empirical evidence from Vietnam

This paper aims to validate five determinants of service quality and to examine the service qualitycustomer satisfaction link in the port logistics service industry of a developing and transitional economy. First,the research reviews literature pertinentto service quality and customer satisfaction. Second, it uses both qualitative and quantitative methods through focus group discussion and directinterviews with 212 respondents who are the employees of firms that have been using port logistics service provided by Cat Lai Port, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Finally, the multivariate analysis is subsequently employed to analyze data obtained from surveys by structural equation modeling (SEM) technique. Findings indicate that port logistics service quality is positively determined by five factors including responsiveness, assurance, reliability, tangibles and empathy. In addition, port logistics service quality exerts positive influence on customer satisfaction. Most noticeably, as embedded in the tangibles component, technological advancements appear to enhance service quality which ultimately satisfies customers in the port logistics service industry.

As a coastal emerging country, export-led marine economy has been the develop-ment model of Vietnam over the past decades since The Renovation 1986. Given the rise of globalization, regional economic integration and logistics enhancement have been identified as key engines for economic sustainability by Vietnamese government. Nevertheless, little sectoral and sub-sectoral evidence has been given for the platform shaped by policies relevant to export, logistics performance and regional economic integration. The paper employs the trade gravity model to study the relationship between seafood export, logistics performance and regional economic integration in the case of Vietnam. Sectoral and sub-sectoral trade gravity models are employed. Logistics performance from the exporter-side and importer-side is included in the estimations. Membership to effective regional trade agreements of Vietnam are proxies for regional economic integration. Zero trade issue is resolved by the Pooled Ordinary Least Squares (POLS), Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) and Heckman Sample Selection estimations, while endogeneity is tackled by the difference and system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) models. Findings vary by estimation methods, data levels, product groups, and whether which side is considered. In addition, theoretical contributions and some seafood export-driving policy recommendations relevant to regional economic integration and logistics performance development are discussed.

Background/Aims: To compare the performance of a modified Glasgow Blatchford score (mGBS) to the Glasgow Blatchford score (GBS) and the pre-endoscopic Rockall score (RS) in predicting clinical interventions in Vietnamese patients with acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (ANVUGIB). Methods: A prospective multicenter cohort study was conducted in five tertiary hospitals from May 2013 to February 2014. The mGBS, GBS, and pre-endoscopic RS scores were prospectively calculated for all patients. The accuracy of mGBS was compared with that of GBS and preendoscopic RS using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Clinical interventions were defined as blood transfusions, endoscopic or radiological intervention, or surgery. Results: There were 395 patients including 128 (32.4%) needing endoscopic treatment, 117 (29.6%) requiring blood transfusion and two (0.5%) needing surgery. In predicting the need for clinical intervention, the mGBS (AUC, 0.707) performed as well as the GBS (AUC, 0.708; p=0.87) and outperformed the pre-endoscopic RS (AUC, 0.594; p<0.001). However, none of these scores effectively excluded the need for endoscopic intervention at a threshold of 0. Conclusions: mGBS performed as well as GBS and better than pre-endoscopic RS for predicting clinical interventions in Vietnamese patients with ANVUGIB. (Gut Liver 2016;10:375- 381)

This paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant synchronous sliding mode control for a 4-DOF parallel manipulator against uncertainties such as modelling error and actuator faults. The proposed control is developed with the consensus approach, sliding mode control, and extended state observer to manage the tracking objective and guarantee the synchronous requirements. The consensus approach combines the tracking and synchronous errors, which helps to integrate both the tracking and synchronous requirements into cross-coupling errors. Firstly, the kinematics and dynamics of the parallel manipulator are described according to the geometric and Euler Lagrange approaches with the challenges. Secondly, the Lyapunov approach is implemented to verify the stability and robustness of the proposed control in theory. Then, some simulations are conducted in MATLAB Simulink with the robotic dynamics generated by converting the design model in SOLIDWORKs into SIMSCAPE. The comparisons between the proposed control and other controllers are made by creating simulations to evaluate the advantages of the proposed approach.
