      • Expression and Clinical Significance of Myeloid Derived Suppressor Cells in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients

        We here document discovery of expression profile of myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients and changes in the course of disease. The study population was composed of 75 outpatient HBV cases and 15 healthy control cases. Peripheral blood samples were collected for separation of mononuclear cells. Levels of MDSCs labeled with Lin-DR-CD11b+CD33+ obtained from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), were revealed to have significant differences between the CHB and other groups. They were 0.414% for health control cases and 0.226% for CHB cases (Z=-2.356, p=0.0189). It also observed that the group of HBeAg positive cases had significant difference in MDSCs/PBMC median ($X^2=11.877$, p=0.003), compared with group of HBeAg negative cases and the healthy control group. It suggested considerable MDSCs might be involved in HBeAg immune tolerance. In addition, negative correlations between MDSCs/PBMC and parameters of ALT, AST and TBil, while positive correlation between MDSCs/PBMC and ALB parameter were found. Multiple comparisons between the four phases and health control phase again, there was a statistically sifnificant difference ($X^2=17.198$, p=0.002). Taken together, these findings may provide a new immunotherapy strategy for reduced the expression levels of MDSCs in CHB patients, through induction of an autoimmune response to virus removal.

      • Enhancing Cross-Cultural Adaptation Skills of International Chinese Language Teachers

        Since 2004, China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language began dispatching international Chinese language teachers to countries in need around the world, the teachers have made important contributions to international Chinese language education and cultural communication. International Chinese language teachers are bound to face various discomfort and difficulties when working and living in a cultural environment different from their own, which affects both their teaching and personal life. This paper attempts to analyze the internal and external factors that affect the teachers’ cross-cultural adaptability, as well as the deficiencies in pre-job training for international Chinese language teachers, to find the existing problems and make suggestions to solve them.

      • Human Recombinant Endostatin Combined with Cisplatin Based Doublets in Treating Patients with Advanced NSCLC and Evaluation by CT Perfusion Imaging

        Aims: To study the effectiveness of human recombinant endostatin injection (Endostar(R)) combined with cisplatin doublets in treating advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to evaluate outcome by CT perfusion imaging. Methods: From April 2011 to September 2014, 76 patients with advanced NSCLC who were treated with platinum-based doublets were divided into group A (36 patients) and group B (40 patients). Endostar(R) 15mg/day was administered 4 days before chemotherapy and combined with chemotherapy from day 5 in group A, and combined with chemotherapy from the first day in Group B. Endostar(R) in the two groups was injected intravenously for 14 days. Results: Treatment effectiveness in the two groups differed with statistical significance (p<0.05). Effectiveness evaluated by CT perfusion imaging, BF, BV, MTT and PS also demonstrated significant differences (all p<0.05). Adverse reactions in the two groups did not significantly vary (p> 0.05). Conclusions: The response rate with Endostar(R) administered 4 days before chemotherapy and combined with chemotherapy from day 5 in group A was better than Endostar(R) combined with chemotherapy from the first day, and CT perfusion imaging could be a reasonable method for evaluation of patient outcomes.

        Probability density evolution analysis on dynamic response and reliability estimation of wind-excited transmission towers

        Transmission tower is a vital component in electrical system. In order to accurately compute the dynamic response and reliability of transmission tower under the excitation of wind loading, a new method termed as probability density evolution method (PDEM) is introduced in the paper. The PDEM had been proved to be of high accuracy and efficiency in most kinds of stochastic structural analysis. Consequently, it is very hopeful for the above needs to apply the PDEM in dynamic response of wind-excited transmission towers. Meanwhile, this paper explores the wind stochastic field from stochastic Fourier spectrum. Based on this new viewpoint, the basic random parameters of the wind stochastic field, the roughness length $z_0$ and the mean wind velocity at 10 m heigh $U_{10}$, as well as their probability density functions, are investigated. A latticed steel transmission tower subject to wind loading is studied in detail. It is shown that not only the statistic quantities of the dynamic response, but also the instantaneous PDF of the response and the time varying reliability can be worked out by the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the PDEM is feasible and efficient in the dynamic response and reliability analysis of wind-excited transmission towers.

        The effects of cigarettes and alcohol on intestinal microbiota in healthy men

        Human intestinal microbiota is affected by the exogenous microenvironment. This study aimed to determine the effects of cigarettes and alcohol on the gut microbiota of healthy men. In total, 116 healthy male subjects were enrolled and divided into four groups: non-smoking and non-drinking (Group A), smoking only (Group B), drinking only (Group C), and smoking and drinking combined (Group D). Fecal samples were collected and sequenced using 16S rRNA to analyze the microbial composition. Short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs) levels in feces were determined by gas chromatography. We found that cigarette and alcohol consumptions can alter overall composition of gut microbiota in healthy men. The relative abundances of phylum Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes and more than 40 genera were changed with cigarette and alcohol consumptions. SCFAs decreased with smoking and alcohol consumption. Multivariate analysis indicated that when compared with group A, group B/C/D had higher Bacteroides, and lower Phascolarctobacterium, Ruminococcaceae_ UCG-002, Ruminococcaceae_UCG-003, and Ruminiclostridium_ 9 regardless of BMI and age. Additionally, the abundance of Bacteroides was positively correlated with the smoking pack-year (r = 0.207, p < 0.05), the abundance of predicted pathway of bacterial toxins (r = 0.3672, p < 0.001) and the level of carcinoembryonic antigen in host (r = 0.318, p < 0.01). Group D shared similar microbial construction with group B, but exerted differences far from group C with lower abundance of Haemophilus. These results demonstrated that cigarette and alcohol consumption separately affected the intestinal microbiota and function in healthy men; furthermore, the co-occurrence of cigarette and alcohol didn’t exacerbate the dysbiosis and cigarette played the predominated role on the alteration.

        <▼1><P>A “three birds one stone” strategy for preparing 1D N-doped porous carbon nanotubes embedded with Co@CoOx nanoparticles results in the unprecedentedly high-rate Zn–air batteries.</P></▼1><▼2><P>In this work, we demonstrate a “three birds one stone” strategy for preparing 1D N-doped porous carbon nanotubes embedded with core–shell Co@CoOx nanoparticles (Co@CoOx/NCNTs) from bimetallic ZnO@Zn/Co-ZIF nanowires. The ZnO nanowires played three roles: (i) ZnO acted as a template for 1D metal–organic framework (MOF) growth, (ii) <I>in situ</I> evaporation of Zn during pyrolysis prevented the aggregation of the carbon framework and benefited the formation of hierarchical pores, and (iii) the excess oxygen species released from ZnO <I>in situ</I> reacted with metallic cobalt nanoparticles during pyrolysis, leading to the configuration of a Co@CoOx core–shell structure. The as-prepared 1D Co@CoOx/NCNTs exhibited excellent oxygen reduction reaction performance, including a high kinetic current (4.6 times better compared to 20 wt% Pt/C at 0.7 V), a low Tafel slope of 80 mV dec<SUP>−1</SUP>, outstanding stability, and strong tolerance to CH3OH crossover. The assembled Zn–air batteries with Co@CoOx/NCNTs yielded high open-circuit voltage (1.52 V), superior stability (over 100 h of operation), and unprecedented rate performance that ranged from 1 to 500 mA cm<SUP>−2</SUP>, while existing batteries have never achieved a galvanostatic discharge current density larger than 300 mA cm<SUP>−2</SUP>. Such exceptional rate capability was ascribed to the formation of a uniform interconnected nanotube network, facilitated electron transport, and an enlarged electrochemically accessible surface area in the unique 1D porous tubular structure.</P></▼2>

        A rapid modeling method and accuracy criteria for common-cause failures in Risk Monitor PSA model

        In the development of a Risk Monitor probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) model from the basic PSA model of a nuclear power plant, the modeling of common-cause failure (CCF) is very important. At present, some approximate modeling methods are widely used, but there lacks criterion of modeling accuracy and error analysis. In this paper, aiming at ensuring the accuracy of risk assessment and minimizing the Risk Monitor PSA models size, we present three basic issues of CCF model resulted from the changes of a nuclear power plant configuration, put forward corresponding modeling methods, and derive accuracy criteria of CCF modeling based on minimum cut sets and risk indicators according to the requirements of risk monitoring. Finally, a nuclear power plant Risk Monitor PSA model is taken as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling method and accuracy criteria, and the application scope of the idea of this paper is also discussed.

      • ZnO Nanorods Synthesized in Large-Scale via Sonochemical Method and its Sensing Potential towards Methyl Mercaptan

        <P>A novel and simple approach has been developed for a large-scale synthesis of ZnO nanorods using ultrasound radiation. Double-pod-like ZnO nanorods were directly grown from the starting precursors of zinc nitrate hydrate [Zn(NO3)26H2O] and hexamethylene tetramine (HMT) in deionized water without any templates or seeds. The obtained double-pod-like product had a diameter ranging from 80 to 150 nm and length ranging from 1 to 5 um. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) revealed that these products are of high purity, hexagonal and of single-crystalline structure. The ZnO nanorods synthesized were utilized for gas sensing application. Alumina plate consists of Pt interdigitated electrode was used as sensor substrate. The as-prepared products were transferred to the surface of substrate by screen printing method to fabricate the gas sensor. The sensing properties of the sensor were investigated toward methyl mercaptan (CH3SH). The sensor shows good and fast response towards methyl mercaptan at a fixed operating temperature. The high sensitivity may be ascribed to the high surface area and aspect ration of the double-pod-like nanomaterial.</P>

        Proteomic analysis of Cry1Ac and Cry2Aa binding proteins in brush border membrane vesicles of the Chilo suppressalis midgut

        Transgenic rice expressing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry1Ac and Cry2Aa toxins have proven resistant to lepidopteran pests in China, including the striped stem borer, Chilo suppressalis. Identifying the molecular mechanisms through which Cry toxins affect insect pests is essential, both for understanding the nature of their toxicity, and for assessing the potential for the development of resistance to such toxins. In this study, both onedimensional gel electrophoresis (1-DE), combined ligand blots and mass spectrometry, were used to identify proteins binding to the Cry1Ac and Cry2Aa toxins in brush border membrane vesicles (BBMVs) of the C. suppressalis larvae midgut. Aminopeptidase-N (APN), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), cadherin-like (CAD), ATP-binding cassette transporter subfamily C1 protein (ABCC1), actin, ATPase, alpha amylase, and heat shock protein cognate (HSPC), were detected in Cry1Ac binding bands, and APN, actin, ATPase and HSPC were identified as Cry2Aa potential binding proteins. The novel potential binding protein, delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase, was also detected in both Cry1Ac and Cry2Aa binding bands. This is the first study to comprehensively identify the proteins that bind to Cry1Ac and Cry2Aa toxins in C. suppressalis.
