En la narrativa mexicana del siglo XX, en la que destacan Mariano Azuela, Martín Luis Guzmán, José Revueltas, Agustín Yáñez, Juan José Arreola y Juan Rulfo, este último sobresale por la autenticidad de su lenguaje y el carácter renovador de sus propuestas literarias. La vida de Rulfo abarca una etapa crucial de la historia contemporánea de México, la de la institucionalización de la Revolución Mexicana, época en que florece culturalmente el nacionalismo. En sus cuentos, expresión de una mentalidad de los hombres del campo, Rulfo construyó con intensidad seres en situación límite, con la violencia como signo más evidente. En su novela Pedro Páramo, está la idiosincrasia de un amplio grupo social, pero además la profundización en los misterios del hombre universal, particularmente en la veta de la pasión amorosa. Novela dialógica, desprovista del tradicional punto de vista moralizante, es Pedro Páramo una obra auténtica, de fina poesía. Por otra parte, la obra fotográfica de Rulfo, que lo muestra como un experto en ese arte, da testimonio del México de todos los tiempos, con la pobreza de su gente, la aridez de sus campos, la ternura de sus indígenas.
Application of Frictional Bond-Slip Model to Large-Scale FRP-Strengthened T-Beams with U-wraps

Studies on U-wraps generally focus on the experimental results and mechanisms of the shear strengthening effect. Only a few studies have focused on the anchoring effect of the longitudinal FRP due to addition of the U-wrap. Lee and Lopez (Constr Build Mater 194:226–237, 2016) have found experimentally from pull-out tests that incremental changes occur in the debonding strain at the concrete-FRP interface depending on the various type of U-wraps. The proposed numerical method using the Frictional Bond-Slip (FBS) model has been validated by comparing the pull-out test results (Lee and Lopez Constr Build Mater 194:226–237, 2016). In the present study, the FBS model was applied to characterize the behavior of a large scale FRP strengthened T-beam with multiple U-wraps. First, the 2-dimensional (2D) model for pull-out test was developed. Debonding load and behavior of the model were compared with both the experimental results (Lee and Lopez Constr Build Mater 194:226–237, 2016) and the simulation results of a 3-dimensional (3D) model from a previous study (Lee and Lopez Constr Build Mater 194:226-237, 2016). Next, the 2D model was applied to model the behavior of a large scale FRP strengthened T-beam with multiple U-wraps. The conducted 2D simulation using the proposed FBS model predicted well the strains at various locations on the FRP sheet, the flexural capacity and complex failure mode of the FRP strengthened beam with several U-wraps. The proposed FBS model was also applied to other comparable studies, and debonding strains were successfully predicted within an margin of error of 7%. Using the validated model, a parametric study of the FRP strengthened T-beam was conducted with various key parameters of the U-wrap, such as the angle of U-wrap and the number of U-wrap.

Since the beginning of laparoscopic liver surgery, resection of the posterosuperior segments has been considered one of the most challenging procedure due to its difficult access. The main drawbacks of the laparoscopic approach to dome lesions are poor visualization, the difficulty of instrumentation and the greater complexity in the control of bleeding. In the evolution of minimally invasive techniques from hybrid techniques to the current purely laparoscopic approaches, the different authors have established gradually the currents indications and surgical techniques to operate these segments with a similar feasibility and safety than open approach. The standardization in the patient position, the use of intercostal trocars, the learning curve in laparoscopic liver surgery, the management of the hepatic blood flow and the refinement of the technique in the extrahepatic and intrahepatic Glissonean pedicle approaches, has allowed to leave behind the initial contraindications about the laparoscopic approach in these segments. In the present review of the literature, the accumulated experience of the different groups in minimally invasive liver surgery together with the technological advances in the different laparoscopic devices have facilitated the resection of tumors in segments 7 and 8 with similar and even better results than open surgery.
Two-Stage H∞ Optimization Approach to Multirate Controller Design

A two-stage H∞ optimization methodology is presented for designing multirate controllers achieving comparable H∞ closed-loop performance with that of an optimal fast rate design at a reduced real-time computational load. In the first stage, a fast rate controller is designed by solving an H∞ optimal control problem formulated to address the design specifications; then the fast rate controller is decomposed into low frequency and high frequency parts. In the second stage, the high frequency part of the controller is retained and the low frequency part is redesigned at the slow rate using lifting and H∞ optimization. In the proposed approach, potential problems of aliasing due to the multirate nature of the controller are addressed by taking into consideration closed-loop performance.

Anthracnose of papaya fruit caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is one of the most economically important postharvest diseases. Hot water immersion (HW) and calcium chloride (Ca) treatments have been used to control papaya postharvest diseases; however, the effect of the combination HW-Ca on the pathogen growth and the development of the disease in infected papaya fruit has been scarcely studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the HW-Ca treatment on the in vitro growth of C. gloesporioides conidia and the quality of infected papaya. In vitro, the HW-Ca treated conidia showed reduced mycelial growth and germination. In vivo, the HW-Ca treatment of infected papaya delayed for 5 days the onset of the anthracnose symptoms and improved the papaya postharvest quality. The combined treatment HW-Ca was better than any of the individual treatments to inhibit the in vitro development of C. gloeosporioides and to reduce the negative effects of papaya anthracnose.
A Simplified FE Simulation of Welded I Beam-to-RHS Column Joints

This paper presents a study of the validity of different finite element models that can be used to simulate the welds at beamcolumn joints involving rectangular hollow sections (RHS). By comparing with actual test results several finite element models that include shell and solid element types and the presence or not of the welds, it is possible to extract some interesting conclusions about which is the simplest and most appropriate simulation mode to faithfully represent the behavior of these connections. Research in this field will guide and help further work to better knowledge of the behavior in terms of strength and stiffness of the semi-rigid joints involving welded rectangular hollow section as columns to be able to propose an extension of the component method to these kind of joints.
