Off-Line PD Diagnosis for Stator Winding of Rotating Machines Using a UWB Sensor

We studied partial discharge detection by sensing electromagnetic waves emitted from the partial discharge source in an HV Rotating Machine using a UWB sensor. In this study, we design a new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on micro-strip technology. We also perform many experiments of offline and dismantled testing compared with the existing HFCT on stator winding of the HV generator. We mention the detailed design of a new compact UWB sensor along with the time domain PRPD pattern and frequency domain results of partial discharge in the stator winding of a 6.6kV rotating machine by offline testing performed in a laboratory.

This paper presents compact low frequency ultra-wide band (UWB) sensor design and study of the partial discharge diagnosis by sensing electromagnetic pulse emitted from the partial discharge source with the newly designed UWB sensor. In this study, we designed a new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on microstrip antenna technology to detect both the low frequency and high frequency band of the partial discharge signal. Experiments of offline PD testing on medium voltage (22.9kV) underground cable mention the comparative results with the traditional HFCT as a reference sensor in the laboratory. In the series of comparative tests, the calibration signal injection test provided with the conventional IEC 60270 method and high voltage injection testing are included.

Myin Ma Hti is the local name meant that the mountain horse never touches. In Myanmer, this name is very popular as the Buddhist religious place. Most pilgrims usually visit to the area of Myin Ma Hti. In 1997, a new limestone cave was discovered during the field trip of local geological team and the first explorer gave the name for the cave as Myin Ma Hti Cave No. 2. In their 1997 report, the archaeo-faunal remains and stone implements were recorded as teeth and vertebrate bones of bull, ox, deer and polished stone rings and implements that could be estimated as the Neolithic context dated as 6,000-4,000 BP. In 2019, the environmental assessment team accidentally arrived into the cave and they found some significant remains of stone tools mingled with a pile of bone fragments after the local people dug the floor of cave to build the religious stupa. Then, rescue archaeological works had been initiated to take recording and making catalogue of bone fragments and stone pieces. Most of the findings are the bone fragments and wasters of stone rings. The special findings are potential bone tools with the cut and scrape marks of edging and sharpening. The anthropogenic feature could be examined with the ash layer 3-meter depth approximately. In this report, the significance of archaeofaunal evidences and stone implements accidentally found in MMH2 will be described as the preliminary survey of prehistoric cave in Aung Pan Township, Shan State, Myanmar.

In 6.6㎸ Rotary Machine Stator Windings, Corona Discharge, Discharge at Conductor Surface, Slot Discharge and Endwinding Discharge is happended by electronic degradation. Also, if Partial Discharge cause in inner-part of Rotary Machine Stator Windings, it will be happended voltage and current pulse. In case of discharge spark, RF electromagnetic wave, which tranmits at discharge position, can happen. To detect this kind of RF electromagnetic wave efficiently, we have designed Planar Antenna Sensor with the CST MWS simulation program. Also we have confined the application possibility, which can analize the partial discharge in Rotary Machine Stator Windings. In the Future, sample of planar antenna sensor will be able to compare with the data of simulation by CST MWS program.
