<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The incidence of Philadelphia chromosome positivity (Ph<SUP>+</SUP>) in adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is very low. Ph<SUP>+</SUP> AML is considered to be high risk for failure to attain remission or for early relapse after standard chemotherapy. Because of the low incidence of the disease, it has been difficult to determine the best treatment, including the effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitors. We retrospectively analyzed 29 patients with Ph<SUP>+</SUP> AML (median age, 45 years; range, 18 to 80) managed at our center between 2002 and 2016. Two patients were not treated at all, 3 received repeated low-dose cytarabine, and 24 were treated with 3 + 7 standard induction chemotherapy. All 27 treated patients also received interim imatinib 400 mg orally until the day of the next chemotherapy cycle began or as conditioning for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), which was performed in 17 patients. Of the 29 patients with Ph<SUP>+</SUP> AML, 7 (24.1%) had additional inv(16), 3 of whom had therapy-related AML. In the 7 with inv(16), the median age was younger (31 versus 44 years, <I>P</I> = .083) and the complete remission (CR) rate was relatively higher (85.7% versus 54.5%, <I>P</I> = .214) than in those without inv(16). Among the 27 treated patients, 20 (74.1%) achieved CR after standard chemotherapy with interim imatinib and 2 (7.4%) achieved CR after low-dose cytarabine with interim imatinib. After a median follow-up of 65.5 months (range, 13.4 to 156.6), the 5-year overall survival (OS) among all 27 treated patients was 43.1%. For the 17 patients who underwent HCT the 5-year OS of 17 patients (10 in subgroup without inv(16) and 7 in subgroup with inv(16)) treated with allogeneic HCT was 69.3%. All 7 with inv(16) were still alive at the end of the study. In contrast, all patients not treated with HCT died within a median of 6.25 months (range, .2 to 18.2). Interim imatinib combined with chemotherapy yielded an acceptable remission rate in adult patients with Ph<SUP>+</SUP> AML. Allogeneic HCT as a postremission therapy provided long-term disease control in two-thirds of those who underwent the transplant. We also demonstrated that inv(16) was related to a favorable outcome in Ph<SUP>+</SUP> AML, including therapy-related AML.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Philadelphia chromosome–positive AML patients can benefit from TKI interim therapy along with standard chemotherapy to achieve complete remission. </LI> <LI> Minimal residual disease negativity could be a predictor of better clinical outcome after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. </LI> <LI> The presence of inv(16) in patients with Ph<SUP>+</SUP> AML is associated with better survival outcome. </LI> </UL> </P>

We systematically investigated the resistive switching properties of thin $TiO_2$ films on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates that were embedded with a Co ultra thin layer. An in-situ sputtering technique was used to grow both films without breaking the chamber vacuum. A stable bipolar switching in the current-voltage curve was clearly observed in $TiO_2$ films with an embedded Co ultra thin layer, addressing the high and low resistive state under a bias voltage sweep. We propose that the underlying origin involved in the bipolar switching may be attributed to the interface redox reaction between the Co and $TiO_2$ layers. The improved reproducible switching properties of our novel structures under forward and reverse bias stresses demonstrated the possibility of future non-volatile memory elements in a simple capacitive-like structure.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The bipolar resistive switching characteristics in polycrystalline TiO<SUB>2</SUB> thin films after regular forming process were studied using two different top or bottom TiN electrodes (Sample A: top TiN/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Pt, Sample B: Pt/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>/TiN bottom). The sample A and B clearly showed two different switching directions of counter-clockwise (CCW) and clockwise (CW) bipolar switching behaviors, respectively, depending on the relative position of the TiN electrode. These switching characteristics in both samples could be understood by considering the forming and rupture of the conducting path due to the migration of oxygen ions between the TiO<SUB>2</SUB> layer and the TiN electrode, which acts like the oxygen reservoir. In addition, both samples clearly display high reliable memory switching characteristics, such as stable switching speed (μs), endurance behaviors (>10<SUP>4</SUP>), and long retention times (>10<SUP>4</SUP>s).</P>

About twenty-five percent of primary heart tumors are malignant. We experienced a case of synovial sarcoma. A 48-year-old man was admitted to CNUH with Dyspnea on exertion and chest pain. Preoperative diagnosis of the cardiac tumor was made on the basis of 2-dimensional echocardiography. A cardiac synovial sarcoma was resected unsuccessfully, Pathologic diagnosis was synovial sarcoma. The patient was recommended to have combined multimodality treatment including postoperative chemotherapy regimen and Radiotherapy. He was dead 12 months after resection because of heart failure.
