        This study examined whether skeletal age deviation is associated with body composition and physical fitness in children aged 9 years. 159 subjects (boy: n=84, girl: n=75) were measured the physique, physical fitness, blood lipid profiles, and skeletal growth index of Tanner-Whitehouse 2(TW2) method. Physique, body composition, and physical fitness except for thigh circumference, grip strength (right) were significantly higher in boy than girl subjects. Skeletal growth index as predicted height, skeletal score, and skeletal age showed a significant difference between boy and girl subjects whereas blood lipid profiles except glucose showed no significant differences between two groups. Early growth as skeletal age deviation showed a negative effect to body composition. Early growth as skeletal age deviation showed a positive effect to grip strength whereas early growth as skeletal age deviation showed a negative effect to physical efficiency. We could not find the gender difference of association between skeletal growth index and physical fitness in children.

      • 청소년기의 웨이트 트레이닝이 체력변화에 미치는 영향

        This study analyzes the influence of a weight training program on the physical fitness in adolescent students. The subjects are 30 teen-aged male students, who are assigned to two groups, as weight training group(N=15) and control group(N=15). The measurement of the I measured physical fitness factors by 6 items conducted before and after weight training. The measured datum show the following conclusion as result of conduction 2-way repeated ANOVA that deals groups and the period time of measurement as a separate factor. Because the trained group shows a significant(p<0.01) higher results when compared to the control group after weight training in standing broad of long jump, push-up, sit-up, and 1600m running, it is considered the remarkable training effect. But 50m running record showed no difference between two groups after weight training. In trunk flexion with sitting, the measurement item of flexibility, all of the two groups show the same tendency of meaningfully(p<0.05) improving, so it is considered that there is no difference producted by the training effect. The above mentioned results enable the weight training of the adolescent period to be proposed as an effective method to the improvements of physical fitness except flexibility, and it is believed that in afterward study we will have a more distinct result through the application which considers the appropriateness of training period and training items.

      • 중년여성의 운동유형에 따른 시기별 체력의 변화

        This study performed to compare the physical fitness following to the types of exercise program. Exercise program were divided to three types as aerobic, anaerobic, and combined exercise program. Subjects were divided to normal and obese middle-aged women, and these subjects were divided to 3 groups by the types of exercise program, respectively(Total 6 groups). Test items related to physical fitness were measured once every two weeks of eight weeks. Muscular strength, muscular endurance, and power showed a significant increase(p<0.05) after performing of aerobic exercise and combined exercise program as compared to pre-test in normal and obese groups. And physical efficiency index of Harvard step test shoed a significant increase(p<0.05) after performing of aerobic exercise and combined exercise program as compared to pre-test in normal and obese groups. In these results, combined program with aerobic and anaerobic exercise could be arised the improvement of cardiopulmonary function and flexibility, although anaerobic exercise could be arised the enhancement of muscular function. So combined exercise program with aerobic and anaerobic exercise could be suggested the effective trials for the healthful life of normal and obese middle-aged women.

        Effects of intermittent ladder-climbing exercise training on mitochondrial biogenesis and endoplasmic reticulum stress of the cardiac muscle in obese middle-aged rats

        The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of intermittent ladder-climbing exercise training on mitochondrial biogenesis and ER stress of the cardiac muscle in high fat diet-induced obese middle-aged rats. We induced obesity over 6 weeks of period in 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats around 50 weeks old, and were randomly divided into four experimental groups: chow, HFD, exercise+HFD, and exercise+chow. The exercising groups underwent high-intensity intermittent training using a ladder-climbing and weight exercise 3 days/week for a total of 8 weeks. Highfat diet and concurrent exercise resulted in no significant reduction in body weight but caused a significant reduction in visceral fat weight (p<0.05). Expression of PPARδ increased in the exercise groups and was significantly increased in the high-fat diet+exercise group (p<0.05). Among the ER stress-related proteins, the expression levels of p-PERK and CHOP, related to cardiac muscle damage, were significantly higher in the cardiac muscle of the high-fat diet group (p<0.05), and were significantly reduced by intermittent ladder-climbing exercise training (p<0.05). Specifically, this reduction was greater when the rats underwent exercise after switching back to the chow diet with a reduced caloric intake. Collectively, these results suggest that the combination of intermittent ladder-climbing exercise training and a reduced caloric intake can decrease the levels of ER stress-related proteins that contribute to cardiac muscle damage in obesity and aging. However, additional validation is required to understand the effects of these changes on mitochondrial biogenesis during exercise.

        Sports Scientific Approach for Martial Arts Development

        Purpose: Martial arts can be related to the scientificization of the sporting process in the case of the body and the scientificization of the mind in the case of the mind, considering the two major flows of training the body and mind. Method: Scientificization related to physical training can promote future-oriented sports science with activa-tion of convergence based on existing sports science, and cultivation of the mind can suggest scientificization to pursue new areas of philosophical thinking and the spiritual world. Therefore, based on the holistic training for the training of body and mind, it is made up of an academic approach for comprehensive scientificization. In the course of attempts for academic development and social contribution, various fields of science are promoting field-oriented basic guidelines, systematic review, high-level technology and qualitative evaluation, along with efforts to find evidence-based principles. Results: Martial arts activities are carried out in the form of sports activities, promoting optimization and maximization of physical fitness and technical factors, and are based on related physiology, nutrition, epidemiology, psychology, sociology, motor control and learning. In addition, the academic approach of sports science, including the physical conditioning and training theory of athletes, and industrial and environmental engineering related to efficient facilities, equipment, implement, and environment, will be the main content. Conclusion: The scientific approach for the future-oriented activation of martial arts requires the establishment of an intensive scientific support system for concrete scientificization in terms of the practical value and utilization of martial arts activities based on the establishment of academic identity. In addition, for the science of martial arts, it is necessary to promote advanced convergence science, globalization centered on trends and popularity in Korea, systematic nurturing of research personnel related to martial arts sports, establishment of a cluster of martial arts sports-related infrastructure, and popularization and industrialization of martial arts sports.

      • 한의과대학에서의 기공교육 향상을 위한 강의 만족도 조사

        Objectives : To understand the basis for future improvement and development in the lectures, an evaluation was made on the lecture by the 'theory-practice-self study' system initiated in 'Yangseng Qigong(養生氣功) and practice' at Daegu Haani University. Method : We surveyed the satisfaction of 'Yangsaeng Qigon and Practice' which is the lecture that is composed theory, practice, self study for 120 students at college of oriental medicine in Daegu Haani University. Result : In the inquiry for the satisfaction with the general class of ‘Yangsaeng Qigong and practice', 69% of students answered positively. As to the satisfaction with class grouping, 76% answered affirmatively, and as to the question "Agreement to the plan workable?", 72% said it was satisfactory, showing lectures by class grouping were made successful as planed. As to satisfaction with theory lectures, 36% were satisfied (38% unsatisfied), as to practice 90% was satisfied (2% unsatisfied) and as to the self-study and special lectures, 36% was satisfied (23% unsatisfied), showing the satisfaction was relatively higher for practice. To the question "Was it helpful in understanding hygiene Danjeon-breathing science?", 31% said yes (16% no) for theory, 87% yes (3% no) for practices, 32% yes (32% no) for special lectures, and 37% yes (28% no) for team assignments. Conclusions : The textbooks and majors of the lecturers turned out to be varied, but as seen from the result of lecture satisfaction on 'Yangseng Qigong and practice', it was different according to the preparedness of the lecturers and satisfaction with the lecture material. Despite the situation that most schools have chosen it as a major subject, the subject name was divergent among schools and the textbook and the content of practice were also not unified. At the point of globally rising interest in Qigong, this will only lead to its weak competitiveness when advancing to the world.
