Young's modulus of a substrate is an important parameter for measuring thin film magnetostriction. We report a simple method of measuring it using a sensitive capacitance bridge. The thin plate sample parallely cantileverd to a metal plate holder below forms a capacitive unit. The bending force due to gravity is mg cos θas sample is rotated θfrom the horizontal. The capacitance change due to this bending is detected by a transformer-ratio-arm bridge. Young's modulus is obtained with theoretical analysis by the capacitance change. This method can be used for thin conducting plate also. Several results almost agreed with published data.

The authors in this manuscript aimed to provide a practical importance of the differential diagnosis of intracranial brain tumor with emphasis on non-neoplastic abnormalities such as cytotoxic edema of the penumbra zone in strokes. The well known SOLs are cerebral ischemic, inflammatory and dysplastic lesions, which intraaxially imitate glioma and other neurogenic tumors. Brain tumor is the one of common intracranial space-occupying lesions (SOLs) on the diagnostic images. However, many non-neoplastic lesions may be indistinguishable from tumors. Especially, early mortality used to be caused by space-occupying hyperacute ischemic stroke, brain edema and herniations. For the retrospective analysis, the authors reviewed the patient charts, the emergency brain Computerized Tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), clinical stroke history. From Jan. 2003 to Dec. 2003, we managed total 61 acute strokes in ICU. Even though we operated six decompressive craniotomies, nine stereotactic craniotomies including two procedures of brain biopsy and three extraventricular drainage procedures, three patients (4.91%) were finally expired out from the induced herniation and medullary failure by those aggressive strokes. 43 patients (70.5%) were recovered good from stroke attack. 15 patients (24.6%) were improved with residual neurologic deficits. In conclusion, aside from growing efforts of the radiologist to make the early diagnostic impression, the authors suggest that urgent neurosurgical explorations with the pathologic diagnostic decision should be requested to decrease the fatality.

직접 접촉식 열교환기를 이용한 보일러 시스템의 효율향상에 관한 연구

가정용 보일러의 폐열회수 장치에 적합한 직접 접촉 열교환기를 설계, 제작한 수 이를 이용하여 일련의 실험을 수행한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1.설계 제작한 직접 접촉 열교환기의 열전달 계수가 2000~3000W/m2K이었는 바, 이는 구미 각국에서 제작된 직접 접촉 열교환기의 열전달 계수 1600~3400W/m2K와 비교해 볼때 실험에서 얻은 열전달 계수가 실제 설계에 적합하다고 생각된다. 2.이와 같은 폐열 회수 장치를 이용할 경우 HHV를 기준을 할 때 최대 13%정도 보일러 시스템의 효율을 증대시킬 수 있음이 확인되었다. 따라서 보일러 시스템의 효율은 98%까지 끌어 올릴 수 있다. 3.배플을 설치한 경우가 안한 경우보다 냉각수 유량이 0.032kg/s이상에서 일정한 비율로 효율이나 열전달 계수가 계속 증가함을 알 수 있다. 4.배플을 설치한 경우 냉각수 유량과 열교환기 높이에 관계없이 온도가 극심한 혼돈 상태를 나타낸다. 5.일련의 실험결과를 토대로 보일러 크기에 따라 직접 접촉 열 교환기 설계를 할 수 있는 기준이 마련되었다.
하지수술에서 희석된 고비중 Bupivacaine의 효과

Background: Although lidocaine seems to be one of the most suitable spinal anesthesias for ambulatory surgery, the safety of lidocaine spinal anesthesia has been called into question by report of both permanent and transient neurologic toxicity. The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of adapting the longer acting spinal bupivacaine in short duration of lower extremity operation. Methods: Forty five patient were randomly assigned to three groups for spinal anesthesia, Group Ⅰ (15㎎ bupivacaine), 3㎖ of 0.5% spinal bupivacaine in 8% dextrose; Group Ⅱ (10㎎ bupivacaine), 2㎖ of the 0.5% spinal bupivacaine +1㎖ saline; Group Ⅲ (7.5㎎ bupivacaine), 1.5㎖ of the 0.5% spinal bupivacaine +1.5㎖ saline. Dural puncture were performed at the L3-L4 with 25 gauge needle in lateral position after which the patients were turned to the supine horizontal position. We checked peak sensory level and height, time to two segment regression and S2 sensory regression via pin-prick test and motor block level by modified Bromage scale. Results: There were significantly difference with regard to peak sensory level and height, time to two segment regression and S2 regression, and motor blockade level between Group Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Group Ⅲ. Conclusions: Dilute Bupivacaine in spinal anesthesia provided the combination of adequate depth of anesthesia and rapid recovery. We conclude that 0.5% bupivacaine 7.5㎎ with normal saline 1.5㎖ is effective in spinal anesthesia for short-duration lower extremity surgery.

Four seasons are the largest mediation of whole climate of one year. The cold and the heat have the relationship of mutual intervention. The dampness and the dryness have it also. In this process they raise various climate appearance. And that various climate appearance influence the whole lives on the earth. This paper is concerned with the classification of them.

Korean government plans to establish large-scale horticulture facility complexes using reclaimed land in order to improve the national competitiveness of agriculture at the government level. One of the most significant problems arising from the establishment of those large-scale horticulture facilities is that these facilities still largely depend on a fossil fuel and they require 24 h a day heating during the winter season in order to provide the necessary breeding conditions for greenhouse crops. These facilities show large energy consumption due to the use of coverings with large heat transmission coefficients such as vinyl and glass during heating in the winter season. This study investigated the applicability of waste heat from power plant for large-scale horticulture facilities by evaluating the waste heat water temperature, heat loss and energy saving performance as a function of distance between power plant and greenhouse. As a result, utilizing power plant waste heat can reduce the energy consumption by around 85% compared to the conventional gas boiler, regardless of the distance between power plant and greenhouse.

<P>We demonstrated a new architecture of an electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) device to transport a liquid droplet by the spatial modulation of an electric field produced using an embedded undulating electrode. The undulating electrode was constructed on an array of dielectric microstructures with different periods in region by region to generate a gradually varying lateral electric field. The contact angle of a droplet of water on the EWOD surface was found to decrease monotonically from 120 degrees to about 50 degrees with increasing the strength of the electric field. The transport of the water droplet was driven by the surface wettability gradient produced by means of the amplitude modulation of the electric field in space but not in time. Our EWOD configuration allows the flexibility in design, the simplicity in driving scheme, and the high accuracy in position for the liquid transport.</P>
